Title: End of the Line
Description: Sequel to: Welcome to Hades
Djinn - August 20, 2007 05:55 PM (GMT)

Dean rubbed his temples, lightly groaning into the dark room. He could hear Sam moaning…again. It had been two months since their trip to Hades, but it seemed to still be fresh for Sam. It hurt to watch his brother everyday, he knew Sam was hiding something and yet…a part of Dean was hesitant to ask. Sam’s dreams, in the past, had been connected to the yellow eyed demon…but it was dead now, so what was this? Sighing heavily, Dean sat up in his bed and turned to face his younger brother. He was sweating, squirming, and furrowing his brow in concentration. As if sensing Dean’s questioning glance, Sam opened his eyes slightly. They both looked at each other in silence; the memory flashed into Dean’s mind as if he needed to be reminded of that day…that day in Hades…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two Months Ago:
Dean was standing in front of the eerie symbol, wondering what it stood for when he noticed a warm feeling. Glancing to the side, he noticed flames crawling up the ancient wood. In moments the barn was ablaze, choking on smoke he frantically turned to look at Sam…but he wasn’t there.
“Sam!? Sammy, the building’s going up!! Where the hell are you!? SAM!” Dean yelled, a familiar feeling of panic creeping up his spine.
Dean was gasping for air, he wanted to keep looking for his little brother…but the flames, they seemed to push him back. What kind of flames did that? The intense heat was beginning to become unbearable. Despite his urge to go searching for Sam, Dean had to get out. Breaking a fragile wooden door, which thankfully led outside, he ran out coughing and gasping for fresh air. But he was met with a puzzling and slightly creepy sight, Sam standing in the field behind the barn. How the hell had he gotten out so fast?
Dean ran over to Sam, stopping a few feet away. Something seemed wrong, Sam’s clothes were singed and still smoking…but that wasn’t what scared Dean. No, it was the look Sam had on his face…like he’d been to hell and back. Dean felt Sam studying him, putting on a small grin he stepped closer to his younger brother.
“Well, that was fun. Not demonic pit bulls, but I’ll settle for it,” Dean said sarcastically, relieved when Sam broke into a grin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Sam had been dreaming about Hades again, about that moment in the barn when Dean said he’d never forget him. It still hurt Sam to think that his other reality brother was still in that hell. But when he’d heard his Dean sigh out loud, Sam opened his eyes. He was met with the same questioning stare that his older brother seemed to wear all the time now. He wanted so much to tell Dean what had happened, but he was afraid Dean would laugh and call him crazy. Sam couldn’t control the flood of emotion and to his fury tears began to slip down his face. He felt Dean pat his shoulder, speaking in soothing tones. Sam needed to get away…he needed to get some fresh air. Kicking the sheets away, he pushed past Dean and went outside of the motel room.
The air was cool on Sam’s burning skin as he took deep breaths, trying to fight the fresh wave of tears. As if on queue light drops of rain began to fall, Sam felt the cool water run down his face…erasing the tears. He could hear Dean come up next to him, silently waiting for Sam to come back in.
“Hey Sam, unless you didn’t notice… it’s raining and you don’t have a shirt on,” Dean whispered with a half-grin, breaking his silence.
“Dean…not now…please,” Sam murmured, looking at the dark clouds.
Sam couldn’t tell Dean, not right now. If he could just forget…then he could leave all of it behind and never have to mention it to Dean. Yet, the screams of dying hunters still echoed in his ears…Sam noticed Dean studying his face, as if he could spot what was wrong with Sam. Dean gripped his little brother’s bare arm and led him back into the motel room, wearing a stern face. Sam glanced back once more, he could feel it in his bones…something bad was about to happen, worse than Hades…

Djinn - August 23, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
It was mid-afternoon when the black Impala entered the Rest Stop’s parking lot. Dean was still was smarting from last night, he wanted to know what the hell was wrong with Sam. He had a right to know, he was supposed to protect Sam and if the moron was too stubborn to talk…well, it was useless to keep asking. Cutting the engine, Dean muttered darkly to himself, vowing to get the answer out of his little brother.
Sam cast a brief glance at Dean through the windshield, noticing the familiar Winchester frown. The same frown Dean seemed to always don when Sam was acting out of character. Sighing heavily, Sam turned to walk through the bar doors. He was met with the stern face of Ellen, a good friend and hunter. She flashed a small grin as both of the brothers came to lean against the bar. Sam knew she still felt guilty about what happened in Hades…and a part of him wanted to blame her, to make her feel what he felt. Yet, it was Dean who broke Sam’s train of thought, tapping the bar top expectantly.
“So, what do you have for us Ellen? Ghost, zombie, or a demonic pit-bull?” Dean asked, flashing Sam a grin.
“Dude, what is with you and those damn pit-bulls? Wait, don’t answer that…I don’t want to know. Please Ellen, let it not be one of those,” Sam smirked sarcastically at Dean’s attempt at puppy dog eyes.
“No, thankfully not…though it’d probably be better than the news I have for you two,” Ellen said gravely.
“What is it, Ellen?” Dean said, trading his grin for a serious frown.
“Well, some hunters have noticed some activity on a demonic level. It’s in the same range of power as the yellow eyed demon…it may even be…,” Ellen said, breaking off uncertainly.
“Be what?” Sam whispered, dreading the answer.
“It might be the yellow eyed demon, but something’s odd. It’s dead, so I’m curious to whom the hell this is walking around. I’ve even heard this yellow eyed demon is female. This just keeps getting stranger and stranger,” Ellen murmured thoughtfully.
“Any leads on where this chick came from?” Dean asked, rubbing his thumbs against the worn wood of the bar.
“One of my contacts said she was seen walking out of…out of Hades,” Ellen said lightly, glancing toward Sam.
Sam’s mind seemed to freeze at that moment…no, she was stuck in that hell where he’d left her…oh god, this can’t be happening…after everything he’d done to keep her out of this reality… Sam noticed Ellen was still talking, but he couldn’t bring himself to keep listening, he needed to sort through this alone. The memories came flashing back, quickly twisting their way through his mind before halting on…Her.
“Oh god, not her…,” Sam whispered, unaware he’d said it aloud.
“Not who, Sam?” Dean asked, hearing Sam’s exclamation.
“What...um, nothing…I was just thinking,” Sam said quickly.
“Sam, if you’ve met this demon before then you’ve got to tell us. Did you meet her in Hades?” Ellen said.
“It’s none of your damn business, Ellen,” Sam snapped, avoiding eye contact.
“Hey Sam, seriously…I know how you feel. Every hunt we do takes a toll and some hunts take more, we’ve just got to roll with the punches,” Dean reasoned.
It was like a switch went off in Sam’s head. All the pain, sorrow, and hate that he’d been put through when he was in Hades seemed to break through. Sam couldn’t stop it and oddly enough, didn’t want to…they don’t know anything about what really happened.
“You know NOTHING, Dean. It’s because of this bitch in front of me that I now know what hell really feels like. YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED, SO DON’T ACT LIKE YOU CAN RELATE TO ME!!” Sam hissed, gesturing furiously at the two of them.
“Sam, I’ve apologized countless times…I didn’t know the barn would burn down with you two in it,” Ellen said, a little shocked by Sam’s outburst.
“IT’S NOT ABOUT THE BARN BURNING!! If you knew…if you heard their screams…all of them dying while she watched, laughing at my pain and hatred. No, you don’t know her like I do…you never will…,” Sam murmured to himself, letting his anger fade away.
Dean and Ellen stared at Sam in shock; obviously something had happened to Sam when the fire started. Dean tentatively reached his hand out towards his brother, who was still murmuring to himself. Ellen grabbed Dean’s arm and shook her head, pulling him in close.
“Whatever happened with Sam is obviously linked with the female yellow eyed demon; don’t let him out of your sight. I’ve got a bad feeling she’ll want to see him too,” Ellen whispered urgently.
Dean nodded and carefully steered Sam out of the bar, leaving the guilt ridden Ellen behind. The dirt gravel crunched beneath the brother’s feet as they entered the Impala. Starting the engine, Dean took a final look at Sam, who was now silent. He prayed it wasn’t as bad as Sam hinted it might, but Dean would be a fool to think it wouldn’t be.
Dean pressed the gas, intent on reaching a nearby motel before nightfall. As worried as he was about Sam, he couldn’t shake the feeling someone was watching them and he’d be a damn fool to be caught off guard at night. Yet, the thundering of the Impala mixed with Dean’s urge to get somewhere safe couldn’t hide the fact someone was indeed following them. If Dean had tilted his head to the left or even glanced into the rear-view mirror, he’d have noticed a black motorcycle tailing him…

Djinn - September 7, 2007 10:56 PM (GMT)
Dean sat on his bed, watching as Sam fell into a fitful sleep. Sure he and Sam had their secrets…but this was pushing it. Something had happened to him when they’d arrived at Hades and it was eating Dean up not knowing what exactly went on. He itched his tired eyes suddenly aware he hadn’t slept since the long trip from the Rest Stop, which had been five hours ago. Sighing lightly, Dean lay down, still fully clothed, and closed his aching eyes…praying for answers he may never get.
It seemed like only a few hours before the sound the door snapping shut woke him up. Dean snapped up and reflexively put out a hand, prepared for any assault. But when none came he cast a glance over towards Sam, who should have been sleeping, and found his little brother missing. Panic crept slowly up Dean’s spine as he leaped up and made his way to the door intent on finding Sam.
The wind was cool on Sam’s face, erasing his anxiety for the time being. The parking lot gravel crunched under his feet as he made his way towards the road, aiming to take a small walk. What if Dean asked about Hades? Sam knew his older brother was just itching to shake him for answers, but Sam feared his brother’s response. He knew he could trust Dean, but something like this would definitely test Dean’s faith in Sam’s sanity…he knew it.
Suddenly Sam jolted to a stop; he’d heard something come up behind him. It couldn’t be Dean, he was sure of it…so who was it? Before Sam could react he felt a strong arm grab him into a neck lock…could it be?
“Hey runt, I’ve been looking for you,” growled the stranger in a sarcastic tone.
Sam felt a smile break onto his face, shifting slightly he caught the flickering eyes of the other reality Dean. Even with his neck in such a position, Sam grabbed the other Dean and fore headed his chest causing him to let go. The other Dean rubbed his chest in mock pain before embracing his little demonic brother. Sam felt tears run down his face as he hugged his other reality brother, all the sorrow breaking through the dam he’d built to deal with the pain.
“Dean! I thought you were dead! How…how did you…?” Sam said breathlessly.
“Whoa, easy there, Sam, one thing at a time, alright? But guessing by the look you were wearing when I surprised you, you already know about mom. Sam, she was pissed and became hell bent on getting revenge. Especially on you little brother,” Dean stated, rubbing his hand against his jacket.
“Does she know where I am? She wouldn’t attack in the middle of day would she?” Sam said urgently.
“She has eyes everywhere and most likely already knows I found you, Sam. We need to go, like right now. If we meet her now, we’re screwed. But nevertheless, she couldn’t take on two demons, eh?” Dean said wearing a cocky grin.
“Dean, you need to know two things: One, I can’t just leave. I’m here with somebody. And two, I’m not a demon in this reality, so that kills the attack whenever plan,” Sam said, holding up a hand in exasperation.
“Who the hell are you here with?” Dean asked, cocking a questioning eyebrow.
“I’m here with…,” Sam started.
“Sam? Who the hell is that?” came a voice from behind the other Dean.
Sam hadn’t noticed his older brother come up from behind, the other Dean spun around to face the intruder only to be met with a mirror look alike. The look of surprise was identical on both of the Dean’s faces, Sam coughed uncomfortably.
“Dean, this is…um, Dean,” Sam stated uncertainly.
“Whoa, wait. This scrawny thing’s the other reality me? Wow, now I realize why you didn’t go into such detail…jeez,” Dean said incredulously, eyeing the human counter part.
“What hell…? Scrawny!? Man, I got more muscle than you could ever dream of you gothic freak,” Dean snapped, shoving the other Dean.
“Gothic freak!? God you’re pathetic, human,” Dean growled, shoving back in retaliation.
“Human!? What the…wait, you’re not human? Great, just great…Sam come on let’s get out of here before this fake look alike does something violent,” Dean fumed, grabbing Sam’s arm and tugging him back towards the motel.
“Hell no, he’s my brother and he’s staying with me. It’s bad enough he’s got your weak ass to ‘protect’ him…Sam come with me,” Dean hissed, grabbing Sam’s other arm.
“He’s ‘your brother’? No, he’s MY brother…now let the f*** go!” Dean yelled, tugging harder on Sam’s arm.
Sam could see this was going to escalate into a fist fight…but not before they tore him apart. He needed to resolve this problem and fast; the pain was starting to become unbearable.
“Would you guys…ow, JUST STOP IT!?” Sam hollered over their heads, the pain making him irritated.
Both Deans froze, shocked at the sudden outburst Sam had made. Yanking his arms free, Sam massaged his aching joints. Casting a scrutinizing glance over the two, who were standing uncomfortably next to each other.
“Here’s a thought, why don’t we all go back to the motel and get some things straight? That way nobody loses and I can keep my arms. That sound alright?” Sam said firmly.
They both nodded their heads, agreeing grudgingly. Sam sighed heavily and began walking back to the motel, listening hard as their footsteps echoed in the early morning light. He knew this was going to be hard, but prayed they could get along long enough to get rid of Mary. Yet, knowing both brothers the fight was long from over and with an inner groan, Sam knew this hunt was going to be a long one.

Djinn - October 15, 2007 05:56 PM (GMT)
Sam walked into the motel room and began ruffling through some papers, intent on finding something helpful. The two Deans were once again giving each other menacing looks, while at the same time trying to get next to Sam. With a sigh, Sam turned around to find the two wrestling silently.
“Hey! Can you guys go five minutes without trying to rip the other’s head off?” Sam snapped.
“Ha, that’s a laugh. This human wouldn’t last two minutes if I had my way with him,” Dean growled, cracking his knuckles.
“Yeah, real funny, Goth boy. Going to use your sharp piercings on me?” Dean said sarcastically.
“You little…” Dean hissed, lunging at the other Dean.
Sam was starting to get a migraine watching them fight, if they had the urge to fight all of the time then he would let them…Sam was sick of being the mediator. He continued to flick through some papers; Sam knew he’d seen something on high level demons somewhere. However, a sharp kick to leg sent him into the table before he could procure it. Hissing in pain, Sam jerked back towards the two Deans, who were now in a full on fight.
“I SWEAR IF YOU TWO DON’T STOP IT, I GOING KICK BOTH OF YOUR ASSES!!” Sam roared, rage pulsing through his veins.
The two Deans froze, the human Dean had never heard Sam talk like that…but the demonic Dean had, and grinned in pleasure. Still seething, Sam returned to looking for the papers…where had that anger come from? He’d never raised his voice like that before. Not unless you count the times in the other reality. Sam shuddered inwardly, praying this was a one time occurrence of dark rage.
Sam’s fingers came upon what he was looking for, an old packet of papers on the different types of high level demons. While it didn’t tell you how to kill them, it gave you enough information on how to attempt it. Picking it up, he once again turned to his two brothers, now sitting in shock.
“Okay, I found the packet I was looking for about the YED…or Mary. According to the section on her type of demon, it says she can be injured with a certain type of bullet,” Sam started.
“What kind of bullet? Please don’t tell me it’s a bullet Colt made,” Dean grimaced.
“Psh, Colt was good, but not that good. It’s probably a mixture of metals or something,” Dean grunted, scratching his chin.
“Almost, it’s a mixture of salt, holy water, and any pure metal. Damn, this is going to be hard to make…where are we going to find someone to make us some?” Sam murmured, flipping the pages hoping for an answer.
“I know, let’s ask Bobby if he knows anyone who’s willing to make some,” Dean said.
“Shit, you mean he’s still alive?” Dean whispered.
“Uh yeah…he hasn’t exactly been doing anything that’ll get him killed,” Dean said awkwardly, unsure of how to answer.
“Dean, the other Bobby got killed in the battle against Mary when I was in the other reality…,” Sam whispered, sadness pricking his insides.
“Oh…,” Dean said, shifting uncomfortably.
Sam gestured towards the door; he didn’t feel like talking anymore. The two Deans filed out towards the black Impala. The demonic Dean bent, making small noises as he ran a hand over the smooth surface. Sam noticed his Dean grinning slightly as he popped into the front seat, Sam was glad that for a short time they were not fighting about anything.
The drive to Bobby’s was uneventful, thankfully. Pulling into the rocky driveway, the demonic Dean let out an anxious breath of air. Sam reached back and gave his other brother a quick squeeze on the knee. Dean nodded lightly before getting out onto the gravel driveway. Both Deans followed as Sam walked up to the porch and knocked sharply. Sam waited for the familiar sound of his friend coming to greet them, but minutes passed without a sound. Sam shifted warily to the window, peeking in and scanning for his friend. The two Deans split up, circling each side of the house. Sam tried knocking again, but was met with a blinding pain in his head. Choking back a gasp, Sam took a step backward hitting the steps awkwardly…and falling.
The two Deans met up in the back and were met with the familiar face that was Bobby’s. The demonic Dean shifted backward, while the human Dean came forward to shake Bobby’s hand. Bobby’s eyes slid over to the other Dean, who was now scratching his check hesitantly.
“Bobby, this is…this is the other reality me. Unfortunately for me, he has the same name,” Dean muttered.
“Asshole, you should be glad I have this name…it suits a demon better,” Dean chuckled menacingly.
“Demon?” Bobby inquired.
“Uh, I’ll get Sam to tell you…speaking of Sam, where is he?” Dean said, looking around.
“He must still be at the door, knocking. I’ll go get him,” Dean shrugged, walking towards the front.
Dean made his way towards the doorway, but stopped short. He’d heard a sound near the stairs…it sounded like someone choking. Panic fluttered through his chest as he ran into view of the stairs. His little Sammy was sprawled out on the gravel, gasping in pain. Tears of worry started to prick at the sides of his eyes as he bent, murmuring soothing words to his little runt of a brother. Sam’s face was red with tears of pain rolling down each side. Dean feared for his little brother and for the first time he screamed the word he despised the most…
“HELP!!!”
