Beta readers proofread writing before it's posted. They can be helpful in correcting spelling, punctuation, and grammar, as well as giving feedback on plot and characterization.

Some people post their writing as they complete parts of a fic while others want some feedback before starting a thread.

If you're looking for a beta reader for one of your fanfics, please include the following information in a post in this thread:

-Title of fic

-Rating (G, PG, PG-13)- Note that the rating does not necessarily reflect what age group the story is geared to but rather the actual content of the fic.

-Length (as in number of pages)

-One or two sentences stating what the fic is about, just for a general idea.

-Anything specific you want the beta reader to look for: grammar, spelling, punctuation, characterization, plot, etc.

-Time frame: If you need corrections made within a certain number of days, please include that in your request. If it doesn't matter, you don't need to include a time frame.

Then anyone up for the job can reply in this thread and details can be worked out from there. :)

A few things about beta reading:

If you volunteer to beta someone's fic, please send your feedback within an acceptable time, unless you work out something else with the writer.

Please give constructive feedback and do not insult the author. Fanfic is a hobby and should remain a fun past time.

Keep in mind that a beta reader gives input on a story but is not a co-writer. The writer has the final say in what goes into his/her story.

So, I've agreed to write for an upcoming issue of a fanzine, and was wondering if any of you great people otu there would be able to help me out?

There will be a couple of fics, but not too many, that will need beta-ing, and none of them have titles yet.

Probably all around the PG & PG13 mark- character death & horror etc.

They'll all be under five or six pages, most around 1/2 - 2 pages long.

Most of them will be oneshots, and it's hard to say what they're about yet, but the on I have on right now is about Sammy's premonitions, and Dean becoming the Demon... *shock horror*

Nothing specific- just general punctuation, spelling and making sense of things, and some feedback on characterisation would be nice :)

Time frame is pretty tight, seeing as the mag comes out shortly, so 1-4 days would be great, if possible.

Beta Severely Needed!!

Length: Only 1 page as of now, but trust me it will become a LOT longer.

Summary: Please don't take my idea. I'm going to have a female hunter that used to work with Gordon bump into the boy's. If I told you anything beyond that it would probably ruin the story. I'm still working out some kinks in the plot...

Beta Specifications: Look for grammar, spelling, punctuation, characterization, plot holes. Not afraid to tell me what I did wrong. My beta for my other fanfic is a total hard a** about my tenses and what I did wrong and what I should do to make it better. She isn't afraid at all to tell me if I suck or to redo an entire chapter. I need someone hard core like her, please. I also need someone who can keep a secret and who I can trust completely.

Time Frame: Probably one or two days. I like sending it to my beta late on Saturday or Sunday night, late meaning 2 AM, and getting it back at about 9 PM on Sunday or Monday night. I like things done snappy and quickly, but I'm pretty laid back about when I get it.

I need someone who can clean up my spelling, I'm really kinda bad at that. Also someone who can tell me where I am going right and wrong, and to keep me motivated to keep going.
I have started a story, and am halfway through the second part, but I always seem to get so far, and then loose interest, don't want to do that this time.
The story I've started is the first of a whole series. I know what I want to happen, I just really have trouble getting what I see in my head on paper.
I suppose it would be something of an AU, as I am ignoring the whole 'Dean sells his soul' aspect, and the series works better is the YED is still kicking.
It's about a journalist who, after a personal experience, goes out on the road and writes about the paranormal. During one of her stops to research a story she runs into Sam and Dean...or should I say, she stitches Dean's head back together after a werewolf runs into him. She makes them a deal, they let her write about their hunts, they get part of the money. So, they end up working together. She's does NOT become a tag-a-long with them. She travles on her own in a souped up motor home, and she has the most adorable dog named Georgie.
Her name is Jace, by the way. Jace Nicholes. I even have a blog site set up for her.
I'm trying not to make her a dreaded Mary Sue, and I need someone to help me make sure she does not become one.

This series will also feature several cross-overs with other fandoms. Doctor Who, anyone? I'll also be using characters from the F. Paul Wilson series of novels 'Repairman Jack', so if you know those books it would be great.

hi! Anybody brave enough to take on an SPN n00b's first attempt at fic? Not my first fic per se, as I have written tons of fic going way back (Miami Vice & X Files, anyone? hehe) so my command of grammar & such is fine.
