INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- BOY’S BEDROOM

We open to a small bedroom cluttered with toy airplanes, video games, and action figures. Two small boys sleep in their bed. ERIC KINGSLEY, age 10, and CLARK KINGSLEY, age 5. Their mother, MIRANDA KINGSLEY, tucks Clark in.

MIRANDA
If you need me, I’ll be right outside. Ok?

Clark shakes his head ok. Miranda reaches down and unplugs the night light.

ERIC
Mom, keep it on- please.

MIRANDA
Eric, you have to learn how to not be afraid of the dark one day. Besides, your brother has a hard time sleeping with it on. I’m sorry Eric, but this is the way it has to be from now on.

Eric frowns and looks towards Clark

ERIC
I hate you.

MIRANDA
Eric!

Eric shrugs

ERIC
Well, it’s true. There’s monsters mom. They can’t go near me if I’m in the light.

MIRANDA
Who ever gave you that idea?

Eric shrugs- matter of factly.

ERIC
Ronnie Jacobs

MIRANDA
That kid you hang out with in school?

Eric innocently nods.

MIRANDA
Well, trust me on this. There is no such thing as monsters…

Miranda kisses Eric on his forehead and rubs his hair.

MIRANDA
I promise.

Eric looks towards his mother and nods his head ok- still hesitant. Miranda exits the room. Eric looks over towards Clark.

CLARK
What?

Eric throws his pillow at Clark.

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- LIVING ROOM

Miranda walks into the living room and sits down. WALTER KINGSLEY looks towards her.

WALTER
Are the boys asleep?

Miranda nods her head

WALTER
What did you end up doing?

Miranda shows him the night light.

MIRANDA
He has to learn some day. He’s ten years old Walter, he’s growing up. Big boys aren’t afraid of the dark- you know that.

Walter nods

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- BOY’S BEDROOM

Eric lays awake in bed. CREAK! Eric sits up in bed and looks back and forth. Clark was fast asleep. CREAK! Eric looks over towards the closet door. It was open at a crack. Eric gets out of bed, grabs his baseball bat and walks towards the closet.

ERIC
I’m not afraid… I’m not afraid… I’m…

Eric reaches the closet door. He breathes out and closes his eyes.

ERIC
1… 2… 3… 4… 5…

Eric opens his eyes- the closet door was still slightly open. Eric nods and breathes out. He FLINGS the door open; nothing but an empty closet. Eric breathes out and quickly shuts the closet door.

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- LIVING ROOM

Miranda pours a glass of wine. She looks over towards her husband.

MIRANDA
Want one?

Walter looks towards her and nods.

WALTER
If you wouldn’t mind.

Miranda pours another glass of wine.

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- BOY’S BEDROOM

Eric sleeps soundly in his bed. CREAK! Eric opens his eyes; he sits up and looks towards the closet door. Open. He closes his eyes and quickly puts the blanket over his head- afraid. A slimy, emaciated, bony animalistic hand emerges out of the closet door.

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- LIVING ROOM

Miranda and Walter drink wine by the fireplace. Eric SCREAMS at the top of his lungs. Miranda and Walter look towards each other. They immediately get up and…

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- SECOND FLOOR

Run towards their sons’ bedroom. They open the door.

INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- BOY’S BEDROOM

Inside they find Eric leaning over Clark, crying. Blood everywhere! Clark is dead. Eric looks towards his parents, and puts out his bloody hands- afraid.

EXT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- NIGHT

Outside of the suburban home the wind howls beneath the night sky.

SUPERNATURAL: TAKEN

INT. CAFÉ- BOOK LOUNGE- NIGHT (SCARS BY PAPA ROACH)

Dean reclines in his chair, drinking coffee. Sam sits opposite him reading a newspaper. An attractive young WAITRESS walks towards Dean.

WAITRESS
Want anything else?

DEAN
No, thanks I’m good.

The waitress smiles, looking Dean up and down she leaves. Dean looks towards Sam.

DEAN
Dude, she was totally checking me out.

Sam doesn’t respond. Dean nudges him in the shoulder.

DEAN
Dude.

No response.

DEAN
Alright, tell me… what is it?

Sam folds the newspaper and looks towards Dean.

SAM
Maysville, Kentucky…

Dean looks towards Sam, eyebrow raised.

DEAN
Huh?

SAM
It’s a small town.

Dean looks towards Sam- go on

SAM
Children have mysteriously disappeared. Gone without a trace.

Dean GRABS the paper and skims it over.

DEAN
No signs of entrance. All are taken at night, in their beds.

Dean breathes out and hands the paper back to Sam.

SAM
What is it?

Dean stands up. Determined.

DEAN
Come on Sam. We’re going.

Sam looks towards Dean, caught off guard.

SAM
You know what it is- don’t you? What’s doing this?

Dean shakes his head no.

SAM
Dean, what aren’t you telling me?

DEAN
Sam. It’s nothing. Alright. I just have a feeling. Let’s go.

Sam nods ok. They leave the café.

EXT. DRAKE FAMILY HOME- AFTERNOON

The Chevy Impala pulls over to the side of the road. Dean and Sam get out dressed as police officers. They walk towards the house and ring the doorbell. BURT DRAKE, balding, mid to late 40s, opens the door.

BURT
May I help you officers?

Dean nods

DEAN
I’m Officer McClane and this is my partner Officer Foley. We’ve come to…

MARGARET DRAKE comes to the door, drying her tears. She looks towards her husband.

MARGARET
Honey, what’s going on?

DEAN
We’re police officers. We came because of your son’s disappearance.

Burt and Margaret nod ok.

DEAN
Can you just run it by us one more time what happened that night?

BURT
We already told the police everything we know.

DEAN
I’m well aware of that, we’re just double checking to make sure that we got the facts right. Standard procedure, so if you don’t mind…

Burt holds onto his wife. Margaret shakes her head no.

MARGARET
It was a couple of nights ago. We had just laid Peter down to bed. He was fast asleep. The doors and windows were locked. No one came in or out of the house. I was in my bedroom when I heard Peter scream. I ran to his room as fast as I could. But, by the time I got there. He was gone. The windows were still shut and locked. No one had entered or left the house.

SAM
Any eerie noises? You know, like a sound you never heard before. Something strange. Something you can’t explain.

Margaret shakes her head no

DEAN
Did your son give you a hard time about eating his dinner just before he went to bed?

MARGARET
No. Why? I don’t see what this has to do with…

Dean looks towards Sam and nods.

DEAN
Would you mind if we search your son’s bedroom? We will only take a couple of minutes. Make sure we didn’t accidentally overlook something important.

MARGARET
No, it’s ok. Go right ahead.

Dean and Sam enter the house.

FADE TO:
INT. DRAKE FAMILY HOME- PETER’S BEDROOM

Dean and Sam look around a small boy’s bedroom, around seven years old. Dean looks towards Sam and they take out flashlights containing a black light.

SAM
So, what are we looking for?

Dean turns off the lights.

DEAN
Anything it could have left behind.

Dean shines the black light around the room. Sam shines his on the windowsill.

SAM
Nothing over here.

Dean walks towards the closet. He opens the closet door and aims the light towards the handle. Fingerprints. Long. Animalistic. Definitely not human.

DEAN
Sam, you should come take a look at this.

Sam walks over and looks towards the fingerprints.

FLASH CUT:
INT. ABANDONED CELLAR

POV. UNKNOWN
We look up through rusting cage walls towards a man in a heavy black coat and hat. Face hidden in the darkness.

FLASH CUT:
EXT. DRAKE FAMILY HOME

Dean and Sam walk back towards the Impala.

SAM
So, those fingerprints… were those of a…

DEAN
Boogeyman? Yeah.

Sam looks towards Dean, curious.

SAM
I don’t get it. I thought all boogeymen did was scare children, not kidnap them.

Dean shakes his head no, sharply.

DEAN
There’s many different kinds Sam. The Homem do Saco, also known as the Bag Man, is a Brazilian boogeyman known to collect children and sell them. The Torbalan is one of two Bulgarian boogeymen- legend goes that it kidnaps children in its large sack. The other is the Talasam, lives in the shadows of a barn or an attic- comes out at night to scare children. Then you’ve got the Lulu-Khorkhore, the boogeyman who eats everything up- if a child doesn’t eat its meal, Lulu is known to come and eat the child. Then there’s the El Coco, or El Cocu depending- similar to Lulu it’s a child eater.
(repressed beat)
Then there’s the L’uomo Nero, an Italian boogeyman, translates into meaning “the black man.” The L’uomo isn’t known to eat or harm its victim. Instead it keeps its victim locked away. Dark. Cold. Makes you feel like you’re already in hell. For a whole month, it keeps you like that until… it kills you.

Sam nods

SAM
So, which one are we dealing with?

DEAN
I don’t know Sam. That’s what we need to find out.

An ambulance drives past the street. A crying mother sits in the back.

DEAN
And I think that ambulance holds our answer..

Dean and Sam run towards the Chevy Impala. Get in and close the doors.

INT. IMPALA

Dean starts the ignition. He looks towards Sam.

DEAN
Hold on.

EXT. DRAKE FAMILY HOME

The Chevy Impala takes off at a sudden burst. Following the speeding ambulance to an open field at the end of the street.

EXT. OPEN FIELDS

We see an ambulance parked in the middle of an open field surrounded by a forest. Cop cars surround the scene. The Chevy Impala pulls over to the side. Dean takes off running through the field. A COP attempts to stop him.

COP
Hey, you can’t go any further.

Dean pushes straight through him, Sam right behind him. Up ahead Dean sees the crying parents kneeling down next to their small son. Around nine years old. Dean stops and breathes out as he slowly approaches the boy. A tear falls down his eyes. Dean falls to his knees. We hear the sound of a SMALL BOY SCREAMING. Dean is the only one that hears it. The sound is painful.

SMALL BOY (O.S.)
Please! I need water… No!! No!!!

Sam looks towards Dean.

SAM
Are you ok?

Dean nods. He looks down towards the body of the dead son. Scratch marks all over, flesh tears, signs of being eaten.

SAM
What did this?

DEAN
The El Coco

Dean stands and walks away. Sam follows him.

What about the Lulu? That’s a child eater too.

DEAN
Yeah, I know Sam. But, I asked Peter’s parents if he gave them a hard time about eating his dinner. He didn’t. It’s not the Lulu-Khorkhore. We’re dealing with the El Coco.

PAN OVER towards the dead son and his crying parents.

INT. BAR (OLD TIME ROCK AND ROLL BY BOB SEGER)

We open to a small bar. CLOSE UP on a poker aiming at a pool ball.

DEAN
Just keep your eye on the ball and…

POW! The Poker hits the pool ball and it goes into the hole.

DEAN
He scores.

Dean looks up and we realize that he wasn’t playing with Sam. But, instead a TRUCKER with a beer gut.

DEAN
So, I’d say I won that one. Hand it over.

The Trucker hands Dean a hundred dollars. Dean takes it.

DEAN
You know what they say, you play- you lose.

Dean walks away. He looks over towards Sam talking to the bartender. Sam walks back over towards Dean. Dean shows Sam the money.

DEAN
Hundred.

He grins. Sam laughs and shakes his head no.

SAM
Well, anyways I talked to a couple of locals around here.

Dean raises his eyebrow.

DEAN
And?

SAM
They think it’s a local cannibalistic cult.

Dean shrugs.

DEAN
Well, that’s a surprise. People witness something they can’t explain it’s either the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazis, Communists, or well you get the picture. Let’s all blame the bad guy of yesteryear.

SAM
So, other than conning your money’s worth what else you got?

Dean opens the journal.

DEAN
Turns out Dad did his own research on Boogeymen.

Dean breathes out. Sam looks up towards Dean.

DEAN
Well, anyways. The El Coco. Found mostly in Spain. Recently in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and Tennessee; now from what we gathered- the home of Colonel Sanders as well. The El Coco also takes its victim to a dark and cold place. Stores them like a bear would its prey and comes out of “hibernation” every other five years.

SAM
So, how do we stop this thing?

DEAN
That’s the easy part. Silver Bullet to the heart.

SAM
And the hard part?

DEAN
Finding how this sucker picks its victims. I mean, we’re not going off that much.

SAM
So, how do we find it?

Dean shrugs

DEAN
Best bet, we find someone that escaped- if someone escaped. It’s not easy. Once these guys get you, 95 to 5 says you’re a goner.
(beat)
Or…

Sam looks towards Dean, curious.

DEAN
Suppose it screwed up. Suppose someone else was in the room the night the El Coco took its victim. Then, we have a lead. An insider. Someone that knows how this thing works. Chances aren’t that good, but at least we’d have a better chance than finding an escapee.

SAM
So, where would we start?

Dean shrugs

DEAN
I don’t know man. Maybe check into missing children reports, find if any of them had siblings that were traumatized by the event. Anything out of the ordinary. But, we need to start looking now. If Dad’s calculations are right, and saying Peter and the boy in the field were the first two victims… we have about three days to find this thing, kill it, and save the kids that it took with it from becoming the next meal.

SAM
Wait… how would we find the kids?

DEAN
Thought you’d never ask.

Dean spins the journal around and points towards a page with the drawing of a closet on it.

DEAN
As most of the legends go, the Boogeyman comes out of some place inside of the room right? The closet, under the bed. According to dad, that’s its portal.

SAM
Huh?

DEAN
You know how Demon’s and ancient Native American gods have portals? Openings into the natural realm? Well, dad believed that if you were to find this portal. The device that the Boogeyman uses, whatever it was- you go through it at the right time and you’re taken to boogey woogey land. That’s why we need a survivor or an escapee. We need to know how this Coco works, or else no luck.

Sam nods ok.

EXT. EL COCO LAIR- CAPTIVE CHAMBER

Open to pitch black. We hear whimpering children. Eerie. PAN OVER to reveal abused children quivering against the walls. Afraid. Among them is PETER DRAKE, 7 years old. Peter looks through the peep hole in the locked door.

POV. PETER

We look through to see an eerie shadow of a large creature standing on two legs, big, furry- our first thought is that perhaps it’s a werewolf sort of creature.

FADE TO:
INT. MOTEL

Sam is busy typing on the computer. Dean looks over towards him.

DEAN
Find anything?

SAM
Yeah, I think so.

Dean walks over and leans over Sam’s shoulder to get a closer look at the article. ERIC KINGSLEY ACCUSED OF MURDERING HIS YOUNGER BROTHER.

DEAN
He’s just a kid.

Sam nods

SAM
His parents heard screaming coming from the upstairs bedroom, by the time they got there they discovered Eric leaning over his dead brother. Blood everywhere. Windows were locked. No sign of entry.
(beat)
There was a pocket knife on the floor.

DEAN
They thought he did it.

Sam nods

SAM
But, he didn’t. All throughout his trial he yelled “I didn’t do it. It was a monster.” That came from inside of the closet.

Dean looks towards Sam. Eerie beat.

DEAN
What happened to him?

SAM
He was locked away at an insane asylum where he’s been ever since.

INT. MAYSVILLE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION- HALLWAYS

Sam and Dean are led through the halls by an attractive, 20sh, brunette RECEPTIONIST.

RECEPTIONIST
It’s always a pleasure to have two college grads come by to give us a visit. Interns, if even for a day, are welcome.

DEAN
Well, you know. With all of the background we’ve had- we just want to be a little help to the community.

RECEPTIONIST
So, Eric Kingsley. Any reason him in particular?

SAM
We’re doing a paper about the projection of inner demons on the mind.

The receptionist nods her head ok. They stop at a door and look in towards ERIC KINGSLEY, 20 years old. Eyes motionless, pale, rocking sickly back and forth.

RECEPTIONIST
I’m just going to have to warn you that he’s dangerous.

Dean gives the receptionist an accusatory look.

DEAN
He attack anybody recently?

She walks away. Dean looks towards Sam and nods. They enter the room.

INT. MAYSVILLE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION- ERIC’S ROOM

Eric rocks back and forth staring at the wall. Dean and Sam look down towards him.

DEAN
Hey, how you doing?

Eric continues to rock back and forth. Back and forth. Staring towards the wall. Dean shakes his head- understanding.

JUMP CUT:
INT. WINCHESTER FAMILY HOME- BOYS BEDROOM- FLASHBACK

We open to a boy around 6 years old. Slicked forward brown hair. He stares towards the wall in a trance, silent. This is YOUNG DEAN. John walks to the corner of the room and sits down next to his son.

JOHN
Dean… I will never let it take you again. I promise. I know what I have to do now. It’s not isolated. I’m going to need your help.

Young Dean looks towards his father, head bobbing around. Eyes frightened. Dried tears. Gaping mouth. Silent. John shakes his head ok.

JUMP CUT:
INT. MAYSVILLE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION- ERIC’S ROOM

Dean looks down towards Eric. Sam looks towards Dean- what should we do? Dean sits down on the bed next to Eric.

DEAN
This thing. The thing that took your brother. It’s an El Coco, a Spanish boogeyman.
(beat)
You were right. There was a monster in the closet. We’re monster hunters.
(he cracks a grin and laughs)
Trust me, I know how it sounds. I’m just going to need your help. You witnessed it. Now, that’s not a common thing. I want to stop this thing. And I can’t unless I know how it acts.

Dean shakes his head no.

DEAN
I’m going to need to ask you to tell us what happened that night… the night that your brother was taken.
(beat)
You tried to save him- didn’t you?

Eric looks towards Dean. Sam looks towards Dean, taken off guard. He found a way through.

DEAN
I know what kind of creature did this. I was taken when I was a kid. I tried to protect my own brother, but I “failed”.

Sam looks towards Dean, realizing and sympathizing.

DEAN
It locked me away. It was cold. I never thought I would ever make it through. But, I did. Someone came to my rescue…

SAM
(WHISPERS)
Dad…

Dean nods.

DEAN
Now this thing, the El Coco, that took your brother. It’s going after more kids. And it’s not going to stop until we kill it. And in order to do that- we need your help.

Eric nods.

ERIC
Ten years ago, I was…

JUMP CUT:
INT. KINGSLEY FAMILY HOME- BOY’S BEDROOM- FLASHBACK

Eric sleeps soundly in his bed. CREAK! Eric opens his eyes; he sits up and looks towards the closet door. Open. He closes his eyes and quickly puts the blanket over his head- afraid. A slimy, emaciated, bony hand emerges out of the closet door. Out of the closet comes a dark, hairy figure cloaked in the darkness. The EL COCO. Eric peeks out of the blanket. Monsters do exist. Eric gulps. El Coco doesn’t notice. It nears Clark. Eric stares afraid. The El Coco kneels over Clark, gradually lifting him off of his bed. Eric grabs his Boy Scout pocket knife. He gets out of bed.

ERIC
Get away from him!

El Coco turns its head and looks down upon Eric. Eric gulps.

ERIC
Get away from him!

El Coco extends its CLAWS. Scratching Clark, Eric looks on afraid. El Coco grins. Eric SCREAMS. The El Coco blinks its eyes, drops Clark and walks back into the closet. Blood spreads across the bed. Eric runs to his brother’s side, dropping the pocket knife.

ERIC
Clark, wake up. It’s gone…

The door opens. Eric looks up, to see his parents looking in towards him. He puts out his bloody hands- afraid.

MIRANDA
What happened?

Eric doesn’t answer them. Walter runs towards the window and checks.

WALTER
It’s locked.

Walter grabs Eric by his shoulders.

WALTER
What happened!

Eric trembles in fear

ERIC
The monster, it… it tried to kill him.

MIRANDA
Monsters don’t exist.

ERIC
Yes they do! I told you- they do!

Eric eases out of his father’s grip and runs towards the closet door. He opens it.

ERIC
See!

He looks inside. Nothing.

ERIC
There was something in there. There was something in there!

Miranda puts her hand to her head

MIRANDA
Oh my god… oh my god!!!

Walter checks Clark for a pulse.

WALTER
He’s gone.

Walter looks towards Miranda, then down towards the floor. He picks up the pocket knife, hand trembling. He looks up towards his son.

ERIC
I didn’t kill him…

Tears flow down Eric’s eyes

ERIC
Why are you looking at me like that? I didn’t kill him!

Eric looks towards the open closet. He closes his eyes.

ERIC
1… 2… 3…

TRANSITION TO:
INT. MAYSVILLE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION- ERIC’S ROOM

ERIC, 20 years old, eyes closed.

ERIC
4… 5…

Eric opens his eyes and looks up towards Sam and Dean.

ERIC
It killed him- and I couldn’t do anything about it.

Dean breathes out. Sam looks around the room. Finally we notice it. Spread around are newspaper clippings of missing children. Sam examines one of the articles. Dean looks towards Sam.

DEAN
Sam- what is it?

Sam looks towards Eric

SAM
All of these children, were they taken by the same creature that killed your brother?

Eric nods

ERIC
It never stopped.

DEAN
It will.

Sam begins to write down the names of the children on a pad of paper.

FADE TO:
INT. MAYSVILLE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION- HALLWAYS

Sam looks towards Dean. Dean shrugs his shoulders.

SAM
So, that’s why this case is so important to you. You were taken. Kidnapped as a child by the…

Dean nods

SAM
Well, is it the same thing? The El Coco?

Dean shakes his head no

DEAN
The L’uomo Nero

SAM
Dean, I never-

DEAN
Knew? Yeah, I know.

SAM
So, when was this?

DEAN
I was six.

Sam looks towards Dean sympathetically, understanding.

DEAN
Hey, no chick flick moments alright. It’s past.
(he gulps)
It’s old news.

Dean’s emotions fight his childhood fears.

Hope that Dean and Sam'll find them before the boogeyman eat them.
Now we know why Dean is so interested by this case.

Oh, I am very familar with "El Cucuy". My mother used to scare my sister and brother and me when we were kids of El Cucuy. Made me afraid, not of my closet or under my bed( I thought a vampire lived under my bed.) but darkened rooms and the hallway of my house everytime I walked by.

Anyway. Aww poor Dean. Bad boogyman, bad! :P

Great part 1 and 2! Hope you update soon. Hey that rhymed.

The writers of SN should definately do this kind of episode. :D

Awww, poor bubby Dean was taken as a kid. All the horrible things that happened to this family really makes you feel for them.

I just hope that they can save the kids that have been taken before it is to late!

INT. DINER- NIGHT/RAINING

Open to Dean looking out the window of a small diner. Sam types on the laptop going through the missing persons reports.

DEAN
Find anything?

SAM
Yeah, I think so… all of these kids, well- most of these kids all have one thing in common.

DEAN
Yeah? What’s that?

SAM
They all live in the same neighborhood. Practically the same street.

DEAN
So, you think it’s picking off the kids on the block- one by one?

Sam shrugs

SAM
Looks like it.

Dean nods and stands up

DEAN
Alright, we’re going.

Sam looks towards Dean, confused.

DEAN

JOHN

YOUNG DEAN
Dad… where are you going?

JOHN
To see somebody that will solve all of our problems. I’ll be back.

John ruffles his son’s hair.

JOHN
Keep an eye on Sam, ok?

Young Dean nods

YOUNG DEAN
Will do.

John leaves the room. Young Dean looks towards YOUNG SAM, 1 years old, sleeping in his cradle.

FLASH CUT:
EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD

We zoom into the reflection of the neighborhood in Dean’s eye and towards the window of one of the homes.

Young Dean lays fast asleep in his bed. CREAK! The closet door opens. Out steps the L’UOMO NERO in its black leather overcoat and hat cloaked in the darkness. Nero walks towards Young Sam. We see Nero’s icy cold blue eyes as he grins.

NERO
Shh... shh...

CLOSE UP on Dean opening his eyes. Frightened. Aware.

Young Dean creeps out of bed. TRACK with him as he exits the bedroom.

Young Dean sneaks through the halls as he nears his father’s bedroom. He enters.

Dean falls to his knees. Sam rushes to his aid.

Dean looks up towards Sam. Determined. Dean stands up and runs off towards the small family home.

Dean desperately knocks on the door.

DEAN
Come on! Come on!!!

No answer. Dean runs to the back of the house and finds a climbable surface. He begins to escalate up towards the boy’s bedroom. He looks through to see the boy sleeping. He opens the window and hops through.

INT. SMALL FAMILY HOME- BOY’S BEDROOM

Dean rushes over towards the boy. It wasn’t the same boy from the vision. Dean gulps.

DEAN
No…

Dean looks to his side to see an empty bed. He was too late. Dean stares towards the bed, taken aback.

INT. CELLAR-FLASHBACK

Nero carries Young Dean through the small decaying cellar and towards a cage. Young Dean tries to fight back, it’s useless. He’s overpowered. Nero throws Young Dean into the cage and closes the door. Young Dean runs towards the bars of the cage and attempts to get free. Nero laughs.

NERO
Welcome to your new home…

We see a child’s hand placed on Young Dean’s shoulder. Young Dean glances behind his back. For the first time we can see that he isn’t alone. The children walk out into the light. Signs of physical abuse, burn marks and scars.

EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD

A cop car drives by. Sam hops into the bushes. Out of sight. We hear the boy SCREAM. Sam quickly equips his walkie-talkie.

SAM
Dean, they’re coming.

The police sirens WHIRL as the car comes to a screeching stop. Two police officers exit the car and run towards the house. Kicking the door open they storm through. Sam remains hidden in the bushes, watching… helpless. Minutes go by- until… we see Dean being led out of the house by the police officers. Cuffed. Dean looks towards Sam and nods. The police officers throw Dean into the back seat of the car and drive off.

FADE TO:
INT. MAYSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT- INTERROGATION ROOM

We pan out to see a FAT COP eating donuts. He continues to stuff his mouth full. Dean looks away repulsed.

DEAN
Look, you can say whatever you want about what took the boy. But, I tried to save him- I got there too late. That’s the story. I’m…

FAT COP
Innocent? Yeah, I know… they all say that.

KNOCK… KNOCK… KNOCK… Fat Cop growls

FAT COP

The door opens and Sam walks through wearing a police officer uniform. Sam grins.

DEAN
You think? Between him not believing me and watching him stuff his face full with donuts- it was paradise.

SAM

Dean shrugs and nods.

DEAN

Dean and Sam walk out of the interrogation room.

INT. MAYSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT- HALLWAYS

Dean and Sam walk through the halls of the police station.

SAM
When you were “out,” I dug deeper into who these children were.

DEAN
And?

SAM
Turns out they all either broke the law or got in trouble a lot at school.

DEAN
You’re saying all of them were bad children?

SAM
Well, not bad per say. I mean Dean- they’re under ten years old. It's innocent crimes, shoplifting a toy, stealing candy… but, as you well know monsters don’t see a gray area. It’s either black or white. No in between.

Dean nods

DEAN
So, who’s next?

The Impala drives off.

Dean and Sam walk towards a small suburban home. Rain falls from the sky.

SAM
So, do you think they’ll believe us?

DEAN
Doesn’t matter, if their son is in danger- they’ll do anything to secure his safety.

Dean rings the doorbell. HARVEY RIESMAN, mid 30s, answers the door.

Harvey and Mary look towards Dean, confused.

Harvey and Mary share a nervous glance.

HARVEY
Our son is in trouble?

DEAN
Well, not yet. Not until night fall. But, if you trust us- nothing will happen.
(beat)

Mary nods

MARY
Yes, come in.

Dean and Sam enter the home.

INT. RIESMAN FAMILY HOME- LIVING ROOM

Dean and Sam sit across from Mary and Harvey

HARVEY
How is our son exactly in trouble?

Dean looks towards Sam

DEAN
We believe that a… El Coco will come and take him away.

HARVEY

Dean clears his throat

DEAN

Dean nervously smiles.

HARVEY

Harvey gets up, frustrated. Mary restrains him.

Because, more than anything- we don’t want to see your son get hurt. Now it’s ok if you don’t believe us. But, if there’s a chance that you even think we might be telling the truth- please, let us protect your son.

MARY

HARVEY
Listen to them! It’s a prank. A boogeyman? That’s nothing but a child’s tale.

DEAN
How else can you explain all of the unexplainable events that have occurred recently?

Harvey shakes his head no, still not believing them.

DEAN

That’s because it’s already inside. Every house here; it comes, it attacks, it goes.

Dean waves and grins. Jacob walks back upstairs.

MARY

DEAN
Silver bullet to the heart, all we need to do is monitor his room. Make sure nothing comes in or out. And when it does come- we’ll be ready for it.

Mary looks towards Harvey. Harvey shakes his head yes. Dean nods ok.

DEAN

Dean kneels down to Jacob’s level.

Jacob looks around the room

JACOB
When it comes… what are you going to do?

Dean takes out the gun and ejects silver bullets. He hands a silver bullet to Jacob.

JACOB
Cool.

Dean grins and laughs, nodding his head yeah.

DEAN
Cool.

Jacob hands the bullet back to Dean.

Missouri sits at the kitchen table drinking coffee. John stares out the window.

JOHN
So, what is it that took him?

MISSOURI
I don’t know exactly. But I do have an idea of what kind of powerful force took your son.

John looks towards Missouri.

MISSOURI
It’s known as the Boogeyman. They exist, John. Many cultures have their own versions of what a Boogeyman truly is. Dean is not the first to go missing.

JOHN
How do I get him back?

MISSOURI
You find it’s entranceway into your world. And when you do, you go in and save your son.

JOHN
Is he hurt?

Missouri looks towards the table. She shakes her head no.

Dean gets up and cocks his gun.

INT. RIESMAN FAMILY HOME- JACOB’S ROOM

Jacob peers out of the covers to see the closet door open. He quickly gets out of bed and hides under the bed. The El Coco rushes past the screen and looks down towards the bed. It GROWLS in rage. Dean KICKS the door open and aims the gun towards El Coco.

The El Coco hears whimpering under the bed. The El Coco reaches down and pulls Jacob up. Jacob keeps his eyes closed. The El Coco grins. POW! Dean fires and the bullet hits the El Coco in the shoulder. REOUGH!!! The El Coco SCREAMS in AGONY. Sam enters the room and aims his gun. POW! The bullet soars through the air, just missing its target. The El Coco rushes into the closet.

DEAN
No, you don’t!

Dean runs towards the closet and runs in. The closet door SLAMS shut.

Cobwebs are scattered all over the narrow halls. Decaying skeletons lay across the ground shattered. Pitch black. Mold grows on the walls. Against the back of the narrow halls is an out of place brick wall.

SAM
I don’t know…

INT. EL COCO LAIR- NARROW HALLS

Dean walks through a narrow abandoned moldy hall of the lair. He hears children whimpering. He runs through the lair as fast as he can towards the noise.

FLASH CUT:
INT. ABANDONED CELLAR- CAGES- FLASHBACK

Nero walks towards Young Dean, chained to the wall; bleeding and pale. Nero kneels down next to Young Dean and rests his hand against his face. Young Dean struggles to get away, it’s useless. He’s trapped.

NERO
Shh… shh… shh… you don’t want to wake the others do you?

Nero tilts his head and grins. Young Dean looks around to see the other abused children, he gulps.

NERO
Time to go home

Cop cars pull up beside the home.

Sam looks out the window towards the cop cars. He shakes his head no, frustrated.

Dean continues to walk through the narrow halls. He notices a light shining up ahead. Then he hears it. Jacob SCREAMS in AGONY. Dean winces.

Blood begins to trickle down his face. Young Dean closes his eyes, scared. We see a tear drop down his eyes.

Dean aims the gun, quivering. His fright turns gradually into anger, then into an inner rage.

El Coco extends its claws and lashes out towards Jacob… POW! The El Coco is halted in his tracks by the silver bullet. REOUGH!!! The El Coco twists and turns. It’s insides radiantly glow… REOUGH!!! The El Coco explodes from the inside; scraps of its flesh soar through the air and vanish into a puff of black smoke. Dean approaches Jacob and frees him.

DEAN
It’s ok. You can open your eyes.

Jacob looks up towards Dean. Tears fall down his eyes. Jacob embraces Dean, wanting support. Dean returns it.

DEAN
It’s ok. You’re safe. I’m here now.

INT. RIESMAN FAMILY HOME- JACOB’S BEDROOM

Sam looks towards FAT COP.

FAT COP
So, you’re a cop huh?

SAM
Look. I didn’t take the kids. I tried to stop the thing that took them.

FAT COP

Dean walks through the fields, mud everywhere, leading the children through the fields and towards the awaiting cops. A strong heroic guitar solo plays strongly as Dean looks towards the cops and nods.

INT. RIESMAN FAMILY HOME- JACOB’S BEDROOM

Sam looks towards fat cop.

SAM
Now do you believe me?

EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD- NIGHT

Sam and Dean walk towards the Impala. Sam looks towards Dean. Dean nods. They look out towards the fields, children running into their parents' arms. Jacob looks towards Dean and nods. Dean grins and nods back.

DEAN
Come on. Let’s hit the road Sam.

They get into the Impala and drive off into the night.

EXT. OPEN FIELDS- NIGHT

Jacob and Peter run into their parents' arms. Their parents hold them tightly.

DEAN (V.O.)
Even though people don’t want to believe it… monsters exist.

Pan over to the police men looking across the field.

EXT. EL COCO’S LAIR- NARROW HALLS

Pan through the decrypt narrow halls of the lair.

DEAN (V.O.)
They lurk in the darkness, waiting to strike. To feed off of our fears.

INT. MAYSVILLE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTION- ERIC’S ROOM- NIGHT

Eric rocks back and forth, the door to his room opens. He looks up into the screen.

DEAN (V.O.)
The only thing we can do is face the darkness, conquer our fears and live another day.

EXT. OPEN FIELDS

CLOSE UP of Jacob and his father.

DEAN (V.O.)
Only then, are we…

INT. IMPALA

CLOSE UP on Dean driving.

Yeah, Eric is "saved" from the mental institution.

Hey, at least one small quiet suburban town at last knows the truth that is out there- that monsters exist.

INSIDE THE LEGEND

THE BOOGEYMAN
The bogeyman, also boogeyman, boogyman, or bogyman, is a legendary ghost-like monster that children often believe is real. The bogeyman has no specific appearance. The commonest childhood fears that the bogeyman's associated with is that of someone (usually a monster) hiding in one's room (such as behind the door or under the bed). The bogeyman is said to lurk like this and then attack the sleepers (though usually only in order to scare them and is harmless otherwise).

Sometimes parents will, as a way of controlling their children, encourage belief in a bogeyman that only preys on children who misbehave. Such bogeymen may be said to target a specific transgression — for instance, a bogeyman that persecutes children who suck their thumbs — or just general misbehaviour.

THE PORTAL

The aspect of the closet door being used as a portal was actually not inspired by the reasearch that I did on the Boogeyman and various Boogeymen, but rather Eric Kripke's Boogeyman film. Also note the references to Eric Kripke and the film, the counting to five technique as well as the name of the character in the asylum- Eric. When writing this episode, I wanted it to be as close to what the Supernatural Boogeyman episode may turn out to be. Thus, I went to Kripke's film for inspiration. The cellar type location is on part inspiration from the film Jeepers Creepers, in that our Boogeyman had a similar lair.

El Coco

El Cuco is a Latin American mythical monster. It is believed that the myth of "El Cuco" originated in Spain. It is not clearly known, however, when the legend of El Cuco began to be spread. The El Cuco, or El Coco, is a shapeless figure, who is sometimes described as a hairy monster.

The El Coco eats children that misbehave when they are told to go to bed. Parents will sing lullabies or tell rhymes to the children warning them that if they don't sleep, El Coco will come and get them. The rhyme originated in the 17th century has evolved over the years, but still retaining its original meaning. The term is also used in Spanish-speaking Latin American countries.

The El Cuco method is very popular among parents from Puerto Rico to Argentina. In many countries, the character has different meanings: in Mexico, for example, parents prefer to call El Cuco "La Calaca", which also means skeleton there.

L'uomo Nero

The Italian equivalent of the Bogeyman is "l'uomo nero" ("the black man"), portrayed as a tall man wearing a heavy black coat, with a black hood or hat which hides his face. Sometimes, parents will knock loudly under the table, pretending that someone is knocking at the door, and saying: "Here comes l'uomo nero! He must know that there's a child here who doesn't want to drink his soup!" L'uomo nero is not supposed to eat or harm children, just take them away to a mysterious and frightening place. A popular lullaby says that he would keep a child with him "for a whole month". As the color black is associated with fascism in Italy, in adult language l'uomo nero is often used in political puns. Since the 1980s, "nero" has also replaced "negro" as a term for black-skinned people, so the expression "uomo nero" is also sometimes heard in racist puns.

Hope you enjoy it. I actually reread it today myself and its better then I remember while I was writing it. Dont know wether thats a good or a bad thing though.

I love "Taken". It's one of my favourites from this season. I'm a monster of the week type guy and I love the boogeyman lore. I think its creepy as hell.

I remember being actually scared of an episode of the ghostbusters cartoon when I was small because it was about the boogeyman. I think it was the voice that did it. "I remember youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu".

Hold on, Bogeymen used to go after kids who succed their thumbs?! It's a god job my parents never told me about things like that because I used to suck my thumb until I was about 7?!!! (How embarrising is that to admit!)

Brilliant story. Good old Dean saving the day! Wouldn't have it any other way...unless it was Sam saving the day, I'd go with that.

This is Dean5339, just lost my password, I thought I would update this episode's thread for anyone interested.

A while ago I remember stating on here that I planned on turning one of my episodes into a film. It has always been a toss up between this and 'Imaginary' (which never say never, that one may come at some point as well). I am officially turning 'Taken' into a screenplay to potentially/hopefully become a film.

The Supernatural element, due to copyright, is no longer part of the episode. Rather it focuses on the case itself and aspects in how the mythology of the boogeyman was presented. I am right now on the initial stages of conducting further research on developing 'Taken' into a film. This is something I have dreamed about for a long time concerning this episode and it's coming at the best time imaginable.

So, to those who liked this episode, it might have another chapter yet to tell.

Thank you to all of the readers of 'Multus Tempestas.' These were very formative years for me and still my favorite project because of all of your support. I feel positive in saying that as much as you enjoyed reading this project over a couple of years - all of you inspired us to find and harness our creative selves. Your reception of the series and episodes, years later, is still a major part of what fuels me.
