Summary: This episode is inspired by NIGHT STALKER and SALEM'S LOT. Still working on the story, but the voice over will not changeThis story will pull at horror, drama and really be a different look at how we percieve the undead. The dead can't think for itself- only one thought: survival.
If you ever saw the new Night Stalker- that's what I'm going for tone wise. It's not going have the same "let's kick some ass" as regular Supernatural episodes. But will be more realistic and down to earth, making the threat seem believable.

SUPERNATURAL: OMIUMEXT. MA & POP’S DINER- AFTERNOON
The sun shines down upon the streets below. It was another beautiful sunny day in Paradise, Long Island. At the corner of the street we see a small diner. Sam and Dean sit at the table closest to the sidewalk. A newspaper lies on the ground beside Dean’s chair.
SAM
Dean, you have to admit the trail is running cold. We’ve been off hunting things while Dad is god knows where…
DEAN
Remind me if I’m wrong, but didn’t we have this conversation before?
Sam shrugs
SAM
It’s just, ever since that collision… it seems like Dad’s been pushing us away.
A dog stops beside Dean’s chair and takes a leak on the newspaper. Dean notices as the dog finishes its business.
DEAN
(sarcastic)
Cute.
The dog walks off. Dean picks up the paper by the corner with the tips of his fingers, repulsed.
SAM
Pushing
me away.
Dean looks back towards Sam, hit off guard.
DEAN
Huh?
SAM
Something happened, something you’re not telling me.
Dean nervously smiles.
DEAN
What would give you that idea?
Sam looks at Dean- you know exactly what I’m talking about. Dean shrugs
DEAN
Dad’s just doing what he thinks is best. For both of us. Trust me, if something did happen- you would be the first to know.
Sam breathes out and nods. Dean looks around.
DEAN
Seems like we’ll have to look elsewhere. This place is as clean as…
Dean stops- was there really a place that didn’t have at least something ‘supernatural’ going on? Sam’s eyes catch the front page headline.
SAM
Hey… Dean.
DEAN
Hmm?
SAM
Check it. Front page. Headline.
Dean flips the paper around a grin spreads across his face.
SAM
‘The dead walk amongst us’
DEAN
What do you know, Sammy… our own little Omelas.
Sam stands up, anxious to go. Dean reads the article.
SAM
Ready?
DEAN
Hmm?
(beat)
Oh… yeah.
Dean stands up and leaves the cash on the table. Sam looks around before following Dean out.
CUT TO:
CLOSE ON- Two fake police badges. Dean McGavin & Sam Townsend.
PULL OUT to reveal that we are in:
INT. MORGUE- MAIN DESK
DEAN
I’m Agent McGavin, this is my partner Agent Townsend. We were told to come see a Frederick Jason Wallace.
A young, spunky RECEPTIONIST looks at them skeptically before turning bag to the computer.
RECEPTIONIST
Down the hall, first door on your left.
Dean motions for Sam to follow him.
INT. MORGUE- HALLWAYS
Dean takes out the article he had tucked away in the pocket of his jacket.
SAM
You kept the paper?
Dean shrugs- not seeing the point.
DEAN
Yeah, so?
SAM
Nothing. Just explains what I’ve been smelling this whole time.
Dean chooses to ignore Sam’s last comment as he unfolds the paper and enters the room.
INT. MORGUE- ROOM
A black MAN around his early 20s, most likely an amateur, looks down at a rotting corpse.
DEAN (O.S.)
Hey…
The man jumps, frightened. Calms down and turns to see Dean holding out his badge.
DEAN
I’m looking for a Frederick…
MAN
That would be me.
Dean and Sam exchange a surprised glance. FRED watches on, curious.
SAM
You’re Frederick Jason Wallace?
Fred sarcastically points at his nametag.
FRED
FJW…
Dean raises his eyebrow.
FRED
What?
DEAN
Nothing. Just…
SAM
We thought you’d be older.
Awkward silence.
DEAN
We came to ask you a couple of questions… regarding a Mrs. Harland.
Fred grins, overcome with excitement.
FRED
Then, my brother you’ve come to the right place! Follow me.
Fred guides them through the hall of metallic cabinets containing rotting corpses as though he’s a tour guide strolling through Disney World. Fred stops at cabinet 201.
FRED
Now, I’m going to have to warn you… what you are about to see will definitely rock you at your very foundations.
Sam gives Fred a look that reads ‘get on with it’. Fred opens the cabinet. Dean covers his nose and tries to wave the smell away. Sam grins and laughs. Fred breathes it in.
FRED
Just like a summer breeze, isn’t it?
DEAN
(Mock smile)
Right…
Fred takes off the white wrap covering the body. We see the rotting corpse of Mrs. Harland. Nothing that different about her, except for her pale skin and withered away flesh.
SAM
What are we supposed to be looking at here?
Fred grins.
FRED
Looks just like a normal corpse doesn’t it? That’s because Romero didn’t enter the picture- yet. But, upon further inspection… she’s genuine zombie straight out of dawn of the dead.
DEAN
Yeah? Then why isn’t she moving?
Fred laughs
FRED
It takes a couple of days, weeks even… you ask me, something strange is happening in this town.
SAM
This isn’t the first?
Fred shakes his head no, the excitement growing.
FRED
I would say this week alone… two, three tops.
DEAN
Where are these bodies now?
Fred nods as his grin grows wider.
FRED
You’ve just asked the greatest question of all, my friend.
(beat)
No where to be found.
Fred lifts Mrs. Harland’s eyes. Dilated. Cold blue.
SAM
Was she blind?
Fred shakes his head no.
FRED
Nope, just a common symptom. They say the eyes reveal the soul. Well, in this case- best bet is she ain’t got a soul. At least not anymore.
Fred walks over to a filing cabinet and pulls out a couple of records.
FRED
These were the victims of the same ‘illness’ over the past couple of months.
Fred hands them the file.
SAM
All these people… they just…
FRED
Got right up and went on with the rest of their life. But, now… it’s looking like they have a memory bank.
DEAN
Meaning?
FRED
One of our last victims… Henry Harland.
DEAN
It says he was buried.
Fred shrugs
FRED
You’ve seen the movies… do the dead really stay dead? Kind of brings up a bunch of new questions about the after life- doesn’t it?
DEAN
Thanks for your time…
FRED
Sure, no problem man.
Dean and Sam begin to leave. Fred holds out his hand pretending to be holding a phone.
FRED
Call me.
INT. MORGUE- HALLWAYS
Sam flips through the files, interested.
DEAN
Don’t tell me you believe him?
Sam shrugs.
DEAN
Sam…
SAM
Dean, if this is true…
DEAN
There’s no proof backing it up.
SAM
Corpses don’t just get up and walk out.
DEAN
Grave robbers… someone seeking media attention… there are thousand other things it could be. Sam, there is no such things as zombies. If there were, don’t you think dad would have written about it in his journal?
Sam breathes out and looks out the window.
JESSICA (O.S.)
Sam!!!!
Dean watches his brother, concerned.
DEAN
There was nothing you could have done. It’s not your fault.
Sam reluctantly nods.
Cut to:
EXT. CEMETARY- NIGHT/ RAINING
CLOSE UP on a grave stone KYLE LAKES. Quiet. Calm. Tranquil. A pale and withered teenage hand EMERGES out of the ground.
EXT. CEMETARY- AFTERNOON
The sun is up. The rain comes to a stop as we angle up towards the sky.
WOMAN (V.O.)
Maybe death is not the
end.
INT. HOSPITAL- ROOM
We see parents sitting by their teenage son watching him die, helpless. Tears rolls down their eyes.
WOMAN (V.O.)
But, merely an
illusion… an
invisible barrier, to cross over from one world to the next…
CLOSE ON heart monitor, straight line. Dead.
CLOSE ON a computer typing the words spoken by the woman.
WOMAN (V.O.)
Wouldn’t the world be a better place without death? Eternity.
Eternal life.
INT. IMPALA
CLOSE UP of Sam looking out the window. A tear rolls down his eyes.
WOMAN (V.O.)
No more
pain.
Dean notices.
DEAN
Sam…
Sam looks at Dean- what?
DEAN
You have to let her go.
SAM
(obvious lie)
I did.
CLOSE ON a computer typing as the woman comes to a conclusion.
WOMAN (V.O.)
Perhaps only then will we find
comfort. Knowing that our loved ones are still with us…
CLOSE UP on keyboard typing.
WOMAN (V.O.)
Forever.
PAN OUT to reveal an attractive woman, in her mid 20s, at the keyboard. Reading glasses perched just above her nose. This is SUSAN LAKES. PAN OUT further to reveal that we are in…
INT. NEWSROOM
Bustling reporters hurry around trying to get their article complete for morning edition.
MAN (O.S.)
Susan!!!
Susan adjusts her glasses and turns to see her BOSS, mid to late 40s, smokes a cigar- you know the type.
SUSAN
One second.
Susan saves the document, gets up and approaches her boss.
BOSS
My office. Now!
FADE TO:
INT. NEWSROOM- BOSS’S OFFICE
Susan sits in front of the desk as Boss smokes another cigar.
BOSS
Ask me what I pay you for?
SUSAN
To…
BOSS
That was a rhetorical question. I pay you to write the news…
The boss holds up the front page article ‘The dead walk amongst us’
BOSS
Not the tabloids.
SUSAN
It can all be backed up.
BOSS
Backed up? This guy…
SUSAN
Franklin Jas…
BOSS
Yeah, him! He sounds like a wacko who’s ten times crazy.
SUSAN
Bodies just don’t…
BOSS
(sentimental)
Listen, I know that this… is a difficult time for you. With the car crash and all… but, I need my reporter back. Ready for the hunt.
(beat)
Now go get me a real story.
Susan nods as she gets up.
SUSAN
Right away chief.
BOSS
And tell Lois I want another coffee… decaff, no latte. Stat!
SUSAN
Right chief.
Susan leaves the office.
BOSS
And stop calling me chief!
The story is about a devil worshipper raising the dead. Zombies. With one intent- killing. Sam will find a girl and fall for her (SUSAN). But, she is taken from him at the end and he has to face this and get on with his life. In essence, realizing that it isn't his fault. The final scene will be at her funeral- where we see a black dog watching on. We end on that note.
As I continued to write this episode it took a wrong turn somewhere along the line. I didn't see it as being even close to my best work and frankly had a serious writer's block on how to finish it and make it better. Thus, here it is- as a special DELETED episode.
This episode was later replaced by VIRUS in the schedule....
So, here it is- out there, for you guys to read to what could have been. A DVD special feature of a sort.... Kripke had his completely alternate version of the Pilot, I had this and another episode that I wrote and cut from the line-up....
And in conclusion- Happy New Years.
