Title: Suggestions
Description: for upcoming challenges
grkgrl88 - December 3, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
I have several ideas for challenges ready to go, but if you have any suggestions for one, please post it here. You'll get credit for the idea when it's used. :)
aworland - December 3, 2006 07:53 AM (GMT)

immie_8 - December 3, 2006 09:30 AM (GMT)
A Supernatural/Highlander Crossover fic...featuring the Winchester Brothers and Methos as the main characters.
How Mary and John met.
SexiBitet - December 10, 2006 10:15 AM (GMT)
a preseries fic.
Dean and Sam start a new school, and on the first day a student brings in a gun.
Its a very sensitive topic, but it would be good to see how dean and sam deal with something thats not supernatural, and how john copes whn hefinds out that his boys are hostage
burstynout - December 11, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
I have a pretty, pretty pleeeeeaaaaaaassssseeeee request.
In 500 words or less, write how you want or picture the show ending, like THE END. Of course, write it as prose, poem or script form, not essay.
And I'm probably opening the door to a lot of depressing fic, because I know a lot of people think it will end in death. Sniff. And just for this one, could we use something we might have posted before, because I have already written the only ending I want for the show as a part of another fic, but I've been wanting to tweak it and bring back closer to canon for a long time. AND, it's a happy ending, can't beat that. LOL.
Anyway, can we pleeeeaaaaaasssssseeeee do this one?
Oh, and I think we should definitely post the best ones on the index page somewhere so Kripke and Co can read 'em when they pop in. LOL.
Thx,
HT
xgetawayxcar09 - December 11, 2006 02:08 AM (GMT)
Ever since i posted my drabble in the first challenge, i've been writing drabble nonstop (never used too now I cant stop! lol)
Anyways i've written quite a few about how John feels about hunting and how Mary's death affected him. And I think that would be a great topic. Of course, i'll have to write yet another drabble if/when it does appear as a topic, but that's okay. I can write plenty of these
grkgrl88 - December 14, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
Posting this here for safe keeping.
Luxorien and immie_8 mentioned a prank war between Dean and Sam. :)
tigerettegrl3 - December 14, 2006 07:14 AM (GMT)
:evil I just came up with this idea and someone has probably done it already but here goes: Write a multichapter fic about dean forgetting its the anniversary of Jessica's death and he gets angry at sam for being down.
1.Include lots of sammy angst (Maybe some crying, who knows)
2.Write from both POVs.
3.Inject sam's POV with memories from back at standford with jessica
4.End with deans apology and comforting of sam
5.If the timing is right add a hug :D
Well i hope someone will write this fic even if it isnt a part of the official challenge thanks for reading!!
burstynout - December 15, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
We could do prompts like:
Aftershock
Ambidextrous
Apple Pie
Ambiguous,
LOL, could go on, but yeah, write drabbles around prompts. Although, we really need to keep the drabbles, drabbles. When we set a word count, we need to stick to it, or anything goes... K, I'm in a bad mood, but yeah, I still agree with myself. LOL.

I agree ^^^^^^ The object of a challenge is to stick to the challenge. If anyone feels they want to write something else they have every right to, but they should post it someplace else if it doesn't follow the challenge. I don't mean to be hard on anyone, but it is tough to sort out those who followed the rules and those who didn't.
The challenges don't all have to be drabbles, either, though they are the quickest to write. I like the idea of how we would end Supernatural, but don't know about that format. It would be nicer to read as a story - maybe a short story as to how you would end it?
Just my musings . . . Ignore me if you like! ;)

I agree, SFK, the challenge about the end of the series should be a story. I was just suggesting we limit the word count, so it won't be too much to read, or no one will get through them all. Hmm, perhaps I should reword that. Oh wait! I just did, LOL.
How long do you think?
And thanks for agreeing with me, I was afraid to say that, because I know how hard it is to limit word count. But if you find it is too hard to write a short drabble, it's always possible to wait for another challenge with more word allowance. IMHO.

I agree with both of you. I think the ending to Supernatural would be a good prompt! although i dont think I would participate in it. Because, lol, i dont want to even imagine the ending of Supernatural. I also agree with following the word count. It's hard for those to follow the rules who wrote short drabbles to compete with those who wrote 300-500 word drabbles that allow more detail and fluffiness that makes their story better. So yeahhh, i agree with that. If you cant work out the word count, wait for another challenge :)
KAZ2Y5D - December 16, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
Okay, I'm going to weigh in real quick on the length of the challenge stories.
I'm much more likely to participate in a challenge story if it's short.
If I'm writing something lengthy, it's usually my idea, not sparked by
an outside influence and it can take months (if not longer)
for me to research, plot and actually write it. So, if you're doing a
lengthy challenge, please set a semi-reasonable deadline to go
with it.
Plus, it takes awhile to read through several long stories, as someone
else mentioned.
Challenges can certainly be much longer than drabbles, maybe the longer
ones should be limited by scenes instead of word count?
And one scene that I'm always willing to read is the flashback where
Sam leaves for college, focussing on the fight/discussion between
Sam and John. I'm really hoping that we get the definitive version of this
as a flashback in the series (hey, a girl can dream, right?)

Holy cow...
Even if this doesn't turn into a challenge, I would love to read one like this.
Hell I would love to write one like this haha.
If I ever stop trying to write 3 fics at once, and my mused decides to take this one on, mind if I use the idea SexiBitet (while crediting you of course lol)?
:D
Luxorien - December 17, 2006 09:53 PM (GMT)
I think challenges based on the titles/lyrics of classic rock songs would be fun. I've seen this in other fandoms but I think it would be particularly fitting here for obvious reasons.
But I'm probably biased because I tend to start with classic rock lyrics anyway. Heh.
scifi-karis - December 18, 2006 03:35 PM (GMT)
FYI to anyone: a short story is usually 2,000 to 10,000 words in the professional world. 2,000 words really isn't that much. I think if we wanted short stories, 2,000 to 4,000 would be reasonable.
And I like the above suggestion, Luxorien! ;) Very good idea . . .

I love first impression stories. What do people see when they first lay eyes on the winchesters. It can be anything. A waitress at a diner or a teacher on the boys first day of school or a doctor or nurse at an ER.

I know what I thought when I first laid eyes on them!!! *takes mind out of the gutter*
I'm liking all of the ideas so far.
Bye! :wave
Smexy_Winchester - March 11, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
I have three ideas. I don't know if anyone as already suggested them, cause I didn't have time to read all the ideas. I read a few, they were awesome. Anywhoooo...:
First Idea: Say Sam and Dean go on a hunt where a man was found dead in his cabin. Doors were locked. Windows were locked. There was no sign of physical damange to the victim or anything. He just, died. Perfectly healthy and everything. So, sam and Dean go on the hunt and they go into the same cabin where the man died - the door shuts behind them, locking them inside, no way out, and now they have to face whatever evil is awaiting them. (dun Dun DUN).
Second Idea: Dean is being controled by a demon or some kind of creature who has him under her/his hipnosis. Sam has to try and break Dean out of the trance and get rid of the creature/person before Dean himself becomes the things next victim.
Third Idea: Dean and John's reaction to Sam when the youngest Winchester said he was leaving home and going to college. <--Might be a bit easier on people.
Supernaturally2Wicked - April 1, 2007 07:26 AM (GMT)
Oh! Oh! I have an idea! *Cheesy Grin* Or several ideas...
One: Sam and Dean go to Salem and encounter three unforgettable witches who have been busy sucking souls out of children! Know what I'm talking about? *Smirks* (Not sure if it would work out as a oneshot challenge).
Two: If Sam and Dean found a Magic Lamp, what would be their 3 wishes? And they have to share!
adder574 - April 1, 2007 08:13 PM (GMT)
Idea for challenge: Sam , Dean and John keep all their wordly possessions in duffle bags. If one of the three was looking for something and looked through anothers bag. What would they find?

I like that one. I wonder what secrets the bottom of those bags hold. Could be interesting.
The Wonderer - April 14, 2007 07:16 PM (GMT)
Just a random one that's probably already been sugested.
What about a 'seperation' passage. Both Sam and Dean are looking for the other, not knowing what's after them, if it has the other...etc.
Told from one of the brother's perspectives only...making it as a creepy as you like and told in first person.
Monti - April 15, 2007 04:47 PM (GMT)
I like the idea of using classic rock songs as a prompt. That would be fun. Like the Eagles Hotel California, or Witchy Woman -- there's tons of stuff out there.
Sivan Shemesh - April 15, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
Well... Ideas are like Bunnies, so i hope you like my suggestions:
1. The Wnchsters been cursed, spending a full week with actual talking and do chick-flick, includinh hugging and lots of talking, family.
2. CSI challenge: One of CSI's member disappeared, and the boys are called for help (crossover, AU).
3. Oz Vs. Madison, Sam (and Dean, if you like) Vs. Buffy. Tag: Heart (Crossover, AU)
4. Spirit! John come back see his sons (unfinished busniess [Like "Roadkill"]), as he tried to help Dean, support Sam.
5. Songfic on the day that Mary died
Enjoy for now, and good night,
Sivan Shemesh

Oooh I really like that idea. It sounds marvellous and there are so many possibilities! :cheer
Chloe K. - April 16, 2007 02:56 AM (GMT)
Ooh, I like a lot of these ideas! I think I like the thougth of oneshots the best. Tends to bring in more competitors when it's only a short piece required. On the other hand, there may be more of a challenge to longer work.
I'd like to do a Supernatural story from Metalicar's perspective. :lmao Just kidding.
What would be fun, though, is a oneshot about a brief encounter with a dead person from their past. I always thought they should do that in the show itself.
Oh and I agree with Smexy, that the argument when Sam leaves home would be a facinating read. On the other hand, I don't trust myself to do it justice. And you can bet there'd be a fair ammount of swearing which would be tough on the mods. ;)

:rotfl...All joking aside, I think that that would be an interesting idea...I mean come-on, just imagine if the Metallicar could talk - the stories it/she could tell!!! :D
On a very angsty note, I'd like to see a short story/one-shot/drabble done on John's first night without Mary. :cry
Dean Winchester - April 16, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
I agree. I think that a retelling of the night Sam left for Stanford would be a good read.
Sivan Shemesh - April 16, 2007 06:42 PM (GMT)
Dean's childhood:
1. John abused him, while he defends Sam
2. John showed more affection/love over Sam more than Dean
3. (Author's choice) to show Dean's childhood.
Sam leaving for Stanford:
1. Dean's hurt, but never say a word.
2. John's hurt and regret the words that he said to Sam
3. (Author's choice)

Supernaturally2Wicked - May 4, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
Oh, I like the ideas. I've come up with a few.
1) Supernatural/Heroes Crossover.
2) What if Mary isn't dead ficlet.
3) This one can be a Parody: All Supernatural characters -- good and bad -- get lost/or stranded on an Island. (I watched one Lost episode when I got this idea LOL! Not that I'm a big fan).
babyhilts - May 6, 2007 04:17 AM (GMT)
Okay so here's I few I'm thinking might be good.
1) doing a short fic based on the lyrics to a song ---someone already mentioned this and it would be interesting
2) taking an episode that has already aired and changing it completely i.e. not an alternate ending but more like AU ex: In my time of Dying what if Sam made the deal with the demon not John? Something like that. change it up
3) or how about someone's first something. Like um...Sam's first day of school...Dean's first hunt...The first girl one of the boys loved...John's first hunt... something like that. There are many possibilities for this one but it's good no?
4) Or, finally, how about writing some short story about a different character in Supernatural. Missouri, Ash, Ellen, Jo. anywho who isn't John, Sam or Dean and just writing some little story about them. Let us see them in a different light.
Yeah, that's all I got! So when's the next challenge? lol ;)

I love that one.
Supernaturally2Wicked - May 23, 2007 05:41 AM (GMT)
I was thinking, of this one:
What really happened between John Winchester and Jo's father? And, is what the demon in BUBS (Born Under A Bad Sign) said true? Sam: "My father shot your daddy in the head"
I'd like Kripke to delve into that background a bit more in the third season.

hmm, I love that one. I did a long fic about that one at one point. There's so much good emotional drama that can come out of this idea. I'd love o see this asa challenge and what other people think.
jj'sgirl - June 6, 2007 03:58 AM (GMT)
here's a couple more that I think would be cool. B)
What happened after Dean and Sam left Stanford at the end of the pilot.
A scene from one of the shows redone from the bad guy's (or gal's or monster's  ) point of view.
