ACT IIINT. CHURCH. DAY
We open to a priest neatly arranging things on an altar. The camera circles around him until we can see Fr. Suazo and John standing behind him. The priest looks up and sighs.
PRIEST
You’ve come to ask about the dead man.
JOHN
How did you know?
PRIEST
You’re not the first to knock at these doors, wanting to know what happened that night.
The priest turns round to face his two inquisitors. Fr Suazo speaks up.
FR. SUAZO
My name is Fr. David Suazo
(motioning to John)
This is John Winchester
PRIEST
I’m not sure I can be of anymore help Father. I’ve told the police all I know.
JOHN
This man, did you know him?
The priest shakes his head no.
PRIEST
He was a stranger to me. But we are a large church, I hear a lot of confessions, a lot of strange things.
JOHN
As strange as this?
PRIEST
No.
(turns to Fr. Suazo)
Surely father Suazo, you aren’t going to ask me the contents of his confessions? You know as well as I do the sanctity of the sacrament of confession.
FR. SUAZO
(shaking his head)
Was there anything else you can recall? Anything out of the ordinary no matter how trivial?
PRIEST
(sighing)
I didn’t tell the police this because
(beat)
Well, I wasn’t too sure
FR. SUAZO
What was it?
PRIEST
While I was sitting there, while he was talking, I got the impression he was, or had been a priest.
JOHN
A priest?
PRIEST
Some of the things he said, the way he said them, like talking about the gospels, about the truth.
JOHN
What truth?
PRIEST
I don’t know. He wouldn’t say. He asked for forgiveness for what he had done. I had some other men here this morning asking about him.
(beat)
They believe as I do
FR. SUAZO
What do you believe?
PRIEST
That this man...
INT. MORGUE. CORRIDOR
John and Fr. Suazo trudge down a dark yet glistening corridor. The odor of death hangs heavily in the air. A few yards ahead of them a morgue attendant swings some keys and whistles.
PRIEST (V.O.)(CONT'D)
Was touched by God.
INT. MORGUE.
The swing door opens with a characteristic WOOSH. We look upon a seemingly empty morgue.
ATTENDANT
Got your guy over here.

The attendant walks across to a series of steel drawers. With a pause he slides open the heavy tray. John and Fr. Suazo now face a corpse covered in a white shroud.
ATTENDANT
A damn shame. Dying alone?
(shaking his head)
Gotta be hell
FR. SUAZO
(turning to the attendant)
Could we have a minute please?
ATTENDANT
Sure
The attendant walks away leaving the two men staring at the body. Fr Suazo gingerly lifts back the shroud covering the head.
FR. SUAZO
Oh my god……..
JOHN
What is it?
FR. SUAZO
I know this man
John watches on in bewilderment as Fr. Suazo opens the dead man’s mouth and begins feeling around. He steps back and wipes his forehead. Worried.
INT. LIBRARY.
A large private library. Books are scattered in a disorganized fashion around the room.
CLOSE UP : Of several books revealing covers indicating arcane and occult themes.
Camera PANS across to Dean wrapped up in his reading. Sam sits near by. He suppresses a yawn.
SAM
This is a waste of time
DEAN
I never thought I’d hear you say learning was a waste of time
SAM
Yeah but there’s a time and a place. Dad and Fr Suazo are out there right now looking for answers
DEAN
Fr. S knows what he’s doing
SAM
I don’t doubt that. I just don’t know why we can’t be there with them
DEAN
It’s called not putting all your eggs in one basket. If they find out anything they’ll call and we can follow it up
SAM
I don’t know how you can do this
DEAN
What?
SAM
Be so calm, so…
(beat)
trusting

DEAN
I’ve hunted with the man for years. So did you
SAM
Something just feels off
DEAN
Of course something’s off. We wouldn’t be here otherwise
SAM
You know what I mean
DEAN
Would you relax. You wanna bother someone try finding Nala.
(beat)
Oh and grab me one of her salsa tortillas while you’re at it
SAM
You’re unbelievable
DEAN
Can’t fight hellspawn on an empty stomach. Maybe that’s why you’re so skinny and lanky?
SAM
Maybe you’re short and stumpy?
DEAN
Whatever. You know the attractive brother is always right
Sam gets up to leave
SAM
That’s true.
(beat)
I am always right
DEAN

INT. CORRIDOR
A dilapidated apartment corridor. The building isn’t exactly up market with creaky floorboards and peeling wallpaper. John Winchester and Fr. Suazo edge towards a battered looking door.
JOHN
I didn’t know a priest’s salary was this bad
FR. SUAZO
Priests don’t have a salary
INT. APARTMENT
The door swings open. We see John and Fr. Suazo peer into the dank room. Cautiously they step inside.
JOHN
Jesus….
Camera PANS across the room. The tiny apartment is in a state of extreme disarray. Fr Suazo walks across to the windows. Old and dirty it looks like they haven’t been cleaned in years. Scraps of paper are stuck to the glass, the edges are being blown gently in the wind. Fr Suazo snatches one page and peers closely at it.
FR SUAZO
To him that over cometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God
JOHN
Revelations?
FR SUAZO
Chapter 2, verse 7

JOHN
This place is like a shrine. Or a religious shark cage.
(beat)
David….
Fr Suazo continues to look around himself, amazed.
JOHN
(forcefully)
David?
Fr. Suazo
What?
JOHN
What’s going on? You said things were worse then you thought?
Fr SUAZO
They are
JOHN
How bad?
FR SUAZO
Worse case scenario?
JOHN
What about it?
FR SUAZO
It’s here
John stands there for a moment contemplating what was said. Fr. Suazo rummages through some drawers. He pulls out a bottle of pills. CLOSE UP of the label. It reads “Carbatrol”.
JOHN
What'd you find?
FR SUAZO
(stares at the label)
Carbatrol?
JOHN
What is that?
FR SUAZO
I don’t know. But look here
(points)
This bottle was prescribed last week
(stares at John)
But the bottle is empty
INT. LIBRARY
CLOSE UP of Sam’s face, talking on the phone.
SAM
That’s right. Carbatrol, also branded as Tegretol, it’s an anticonvulsant.
INT. CORRIDOR
JOHN
An anticonvulsant? What’s it used for?
INT. LIBRARY
SAM
Well that’s the interesting part. It’s used to treat parasomnia
JOHN (O.S.)
Parasomnia?
SAM
Yeah, basically a violent form of sleep walking in which the sufferer acts out their dreams
INT. CORRIDOR
JOHN
Is it dangerous?
SAM (O.S.)
Kinda, why?
JOHN
Well what do you mean kinda?
INT. LIBRARY
SAM
(reading from his computer screen)
Em, well a person can perform everyday actions as normal because the body isn’t paralyzed, but symptoms can range from acting in bizarre ways to violent seizures and fits
JOHN (O.S.)
Could someone bite off their own tongue during one of these fits?
SAM
It’s possible I guess
INT. HALLWAY
JOHN
It turns out our John Doe’s name is Father Eric Walken, an old friend of David’s
INT. LIBRARY
SAM
(excitedly)
That’s great! Well I mean it’s not great for David….but it’s great for what we….it’s a lead…
INT. HALLWAY
JOHN
That’s not all. It seems our guy who confessed so much in the church
(beat)
Was actually missing his tongue
INT. LIBRARY
Camera lingers on Sam’s face for a moment. Confused.
JOHN
Listen Sam, I want you and Dean to do something for me…
INT. HALLWAY, LATER
John hastily hangs up. He turns around to be met by Fr. Suazo who is exiting the apartment.
JOHN
Why’d he do it David?
FR SUAZO
(shaking his head)
I don’t know
CLOSE UP of a book nestled in Fr. Suazo hands. It looks like a diary. David Suazo hands it to John.
FR SUAZO
The last entry
(beat)
Look at it
Fr Suazo turns away, deep in thought. John flicks through the yellowed pages of the tattered diary.
JOHN
(reading aloud)
“The written word holds the power. It’s also all I have left to communicate with. The pen is mightier then the sword, but is it mightier then God? I’m scared, but also determined. I know what I have to do. I’m scared however for the flock. The Sheperd is gone and the wolves are circling. It’s dark. Night is coming. I can hear them in the distance, their howls drawing closer. We can do nothing now but wait.”
John looks up from the book and mouths the final words.
JOHN
(alarmed)
“They are coming”
INT. MOTEL ROOM. NIGHT
Camera pans across the darkened room. The air is deathly still, not even the faintest noise from outside seems to pollute the scene. Two beds lie side by side, their occupants fast asleep.
CLOSE UP of a door handle. We hear the faint scratches and clicks indicating it is being picked.
CLOSE UP of a man’s eyes. Like a switch they flick open.
The door opens softly and a dark figure glides into the room followed by others. We see the silhouettes of the four figures stand over the two beds. They produce silencers from their jackets and without hesitation fire into the beds. BANG! BANG! BANG! One shadow steps forward, pulling the covers back he is enraged to see nothing but pillows forming the shape of a person. Suddenly from behind he is jumped by man and sent crashing to the ground. The lone figure then dives for cover under a hail of gunfire from the surprised intruders. Taking shelter behind a corner the moonlight illuminates the face of John Winchester as he loads and readies his 9mm.
VOICE (O.S)
John!
John’s eye’s widen in fear. They’ve got David!
John wheels away from the corner taking aim at the cluster of figures in front of him. Even in the dark the experienced hunter cannot make out who is who.
CLOSE UP of Fr Suazo being held by an unknown man. From behind the shape of a sickle rises. SQUEELCH as we see a long curved blade explode from the chest of another of the intruders. The would-be murderer holding Fr. Suazo drops his prey and spins around only to be quickly decapitated.
FR. SUAZO
Oh God! No!
Horrified, The remaining intruders open fire in blind panic spraying the room with bullets. Through the flashes of gunfire with see glimpses of hooded figures, of large bloodied blades, and of faces contorted in masks of death.

John crawls along the ground, inching himself closer to Fr. Suazo.
JOHN
David! Quickly!
FR SUAZO
(frozen in fear)
I…
(beat)
I can’t!
JOHN
There’s no time!
Fr. Suazo’s face turns to John. His expression one of complete hopelessness.
FR SUAZO
No time left for me
JOHN
You don’t mean that
(shouting at intruders)
Who are you?!
Low guttural voices reply in unison
VOICES

In a flash Fr. Suazo is gone, carried away by the sickle wielding beings leaving John Winchester alone and devastated.
