SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An animal believed to be a gray wolf was killed in a coyote trap in Box Elder County earlier this week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Thursday.
The wolf appeared to be a 3-year-old mature male, and wildlife officials believe it probably came to Utah from the Yellowstone National Park area. The Fish and Wildlife Service's forensic lab is conducting tests to confirm that the animal is a wolf, where it came from and its cause of death.
Wolves were reintroduced in the Yellowstone and central Idaho areas in 1995 and 1996.
