It was later in the afternoon. About the time that everyone was either eatting dinner, or doing their own things. The library was silent, aside from the soft footsteps of one young person slowly walking up and down the aisles of the restricted section. Katie Tydings was the girl priviladged enough to enter the restricted section of the library. Perhaps it was because she knew the librarian well, because she was at the library quite often. Or perhaps it was because she excelled in her classes, and liked to do extra research and studying. Either way, the restricted section wasn't exactly restricted to her anymore. It had become like a second home.

The slender blond's hair was tied back into a messy bun, in an attempt to keep her hair out of her eyes whilst reading, however stay strands kept falling out and into her face. She wore a grey Gitana skirt with black embellishments, and a white peasant top (image). She would have looked out of place wearing an outfit like that, but if you had known Kaitlyn, you would have known that that was her 'style'. To anyone else, she might seem too 'dressed up' for a library, in skirts and jewelry.

In one hand was a bottle of water. The other hand's index finger gently ran along the books on the fourth shelf from the bottom. Her deep brown eyes peered through thick black framed glasses, following her finger, reading the title of each book, looking for nothing in paticular, yet something interesting. She had finnished all of her college text books, and was waiting for more to be delivered. She needed something else to read to occupy her time between classes. Advanced Rune Translation, she'd read it. One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, she'd read that as well. Standard Book of Spells, in her opinion shouldn't have been in the restricted section. Healer's Helpmate was an interesting book, perhaps if she couldn't find anything else she'd re-read that one. But more than anything, she wanted to stimulate her mind... she wanted to find a new book.

She lowered her hand from the books once she got to the end of the aisle. She had looked through all of the books top to bottom in that aisle, and realized she had read most of them, and the others didn't seem very interesting. She slowly untwisted the cap to her water, and brought the bottle up to her lips, deep chocolate hued eyes still scanning over the books she had just looked through... perhaps she missed something? She took a few sips of water, retwisted the cap, and then turned down the next aisle....

Evelyn was entirely grumpy. The fact that students were allowed access to the restricted section was not the issue, if the students were interested in reading, she certainly had no problem with that, but the fact that certain books ended up in the restricted section when they were clearly for everyone's use just made her annoyed. She had sifted for nearly an hour and had found more copies of "Potions for Beginners" than she knew were actually present in the library.

On top of this irritation, her hair had adopted a sort of fuzzy look, probably due to the moisture in the air. As a result, she now bore a slightly curly look. She flicked an intruding strand from her face and straightened the gold rim of her glasses. Her long black skirt fought with her as she attempted to climb further up the rungs of the ladder, a fall was was just what she needed to cheer her up. She didn't really like ladders, being highly superstitious, but this one was deemed usable as it was aiding her in removing some unnecessary books.

Her hands were filled with the offendng items and she grumbled and moaned under her breath at the "dear little darlings" that had left books like "Back to Basics: Spells for the Struggling Slayer" in the restricted section. She lifted yet another volume as she noticed a figure on the other side of the shelf. She looked over the top of her glasses, squinting slightly to see what appeared to be a student.

She smiled as she realised who it was. Then, coming ever so carefully down the ladder, she balanced herself before seeing the student come into the next aisle. Moving around the shelf, she greeted Katie as she deposited some of the books in their rightful places. "Hello Kaitlyn, anything specific I could help you find?"

She got on quite well with Kaitlyn Tydings, the student had a passion for reading and was often in the library, thus, Evelyn had spoken to her often. Looking for a book for her was always fun, it served as a little bit of a challenge to find something that would hold the Watcher's attention.

Katie continued on her quest, moving ever so slowly into the next aisle, trying not to miss a book's title. It wasn't until Evelyn Earnshaw, the librarian and Demonic Languages Professor made her apperance to Kaitlyn that she stopped her search. Kaitlyn smiled warm-heartedly. Evelyn was, in Kaitie's mind one of the smartest women she knew. Katie was sure Evelyn had read every book that crossed into the library's threshold. Of course, if Katie had been the librarian, she was sure she would have as well. But Katie was far too young, and she had schooling to attend.

Never-the-less, she always wanted to give her services to Evelyn, should Evelyn need help in the library. But Evelyn always seemed to have everything under control. As far as Katie could tell, Ms.Earnshaw was quite strict about the placement of books as well. It positively annoyed Katie when she saw a book out of place... it was in her nature to pull it out, and re-place it... in the correct spot. Surely it annoyed Evelyn just as much, if not more.

Katie's slender pale hand moved up to her face, pulling her thickly rimmed black glasses off, so she could better see Evelyn. She wasn't ashamed of her glasses when Evelyn was around. Anyone else, and she might have been embarassed. But she felt comfortable with Evelyn, and with the quiet library, and the smell of dusty books. "Hello Ms.Earnshaw." She greeted quite cheerfully. She glanced to the books, then back to her 'mentor' of sorts. "I'm just trying to find something to tide me over until my next load of college course books come in. I had to order them online, so it might take about a week. I'm bored to death. Have any new and interesting books come in?" She spoke with a slightly odd accent. It was semi-normal at times, due to the fact that her father was British, and her mother American. But growing up in India gave her a slight twist on a few words and pronunciations here and there.

Kaitlyn's dorm room was beginning to look like a library because of all the books she had ordered online. Her room was lined with shelves all along one wall, which were full of books... of course, here or there was placed a random statue, or decorative piece she had brought to the school from India. Even her night stand was cluttered with books. With this new load that was coming in, she knew she'd feel stressed. When her room was cluttered, or a mess, she felt anxious, tense, and unorganized. Perhaps the library would like some of her books? There was nothing more in the world better than educating ones self. And she had already read the books, why not let someone else get use out of them?

"Oh, I wanted to ask you something as well. Could the library use some more books? I have quite a few... not neccissarily on Demon Slaying, or Vampiric nature... but they still might be rather useful."

"Hello Ms.Earnshaw." She greeted quite cheerfully. She glanced to the books, then back to her 'mentor' of sorts.

Kaitlyn's warm greeting made Evie smile, it was nice to be so well recieved, being blessed, as she was, with the personality of the habitual reader. People didn't always take to her well and it was wonderful to converse with a like-mind. There was also a tone of respect in Kaitlyn's voice which made Evelyn feel proud to be her teacher. It wasn't often that you came across a student at the Academy with such social graces. The Watcher reminded her of herself as a girl and she couldn't help but attempt to take the girl under her wing and share with her all she could of her love of literature.

"I'm just trying to find something to tide me over until my next load of college course books come in. I had to order them online, so it might take about a week. I'm bored to death. Have any new and interesting books come in?" She spoke with a slightly odd accent.

"Hmmm..." thought Evelyn briefly, it was a fantastic challenge and she was already keen to search her mental inventory for something suitable, or, in Kaitlyn's case a couple of suitable things. Millions of volumes whirled through her mind, some with Vampiric background, others more secular. Looking at the eager mind before her she smiled asking, "How fond are you of Virginia Woolf? Not light reading, but unbelievably stimulating..." she thought for a second more, "Unless you were looking for something more academic related? In that case, we've got a couple of historical journals that came in this morning..." Knowing Kaitlyn to be a sincerely brilliant girl, Evie wouldn't have been surprised had she already read Woolf, but she couldn't miss an oppertunity to promote her favourte author.

"Oh, I wanted to ask you something as well. Could the library use some more books? I have quite a few... not neccissarily on Demon Slaying, or Vampiric nature... but they still might be rather useful."

Evie listened intently, her eyes brightening slightly with each word, "The library could always do with a few more books and I wouldn't mind stealing a few myself..." she said cheerfully, happy to adopt any new reading. There were always oppertunites to broaden her literary horizons and Evelyn never missed one, she'd read everything she could get her hands on and the oppertunity to find more was appealing. "Anything you bring me will be welcomed happily..."

As he always did when he was at a loss, Headmaster Vaughan headed to the library. It seemed a very typical thing for him to do and since taking over the regins of the Academy, he seemed to do it more and more often. It was almost a natural phoenomenon to find him skimming pages in the restricted section.

This time though, he had a very legitimate reason for being in the library. Several men had been killed the night before- and one of men's blood stained shirt was found in very close proximity to the Academy.

He already knew that the neighbouring town had a very different type of resident, so it was normal to hear of killings in that area. But usually the vamps were clever enough to steer clear of the area surrounding the Academy. After all, a school training a few hundred pupils in various methods of vampire slayage was sure to send most vampires in the other direction. Of course, many a vamp would adore the adulation he would receive for an attack on the Academy.

But would any actually attempt such an attack? It seemed possible as the attacks got closer and closer to the school's perimeter. They were somewhat sporadic- a few once in a while and then nothing. But of late, the attacks seemed to increase.

Willow and Giles had said they chose the area because it was close to a semi-active hellmouth. The buzz was very slight and it seemed the vamps preferred the bigger hellmouth in Ohio. There were several others situated around the world, but they were mostly guarded. So this 'hell leak' became the site of the new Academy.

Vaughan lifted his head as he noticed someone enter. Kaitlyn Tydings. From what he could tell, she was one of the most promising Watchers at the Academy. She seemed to constantly enter the library's restricted section. Whilst he knew there was a reason the area was restricted, she seemed so keen on the books in there that it hardly seemed fair to stop her.

Unintentionally listening to her and Ms Earnshaw's coversation, he couldn't help but smile. "Sometimes it take time to find a good book with the right information," he said calmly watching the two women. "Trust me, I would know. But I believe Ms Earnshaw is heading you in the right direction. I, on the otherhand, might be here for a while." He gave her a wink and turned back to his book, reclining further in his chair.

Kaitlyn's brows furrowed slightly at the mention of Virginia Woolf. She had heard of Virginia Woolf in one of her College English Text Books, but had actually never read any of her work. She usually read academic books, and hadn't really spent much time with Fiction, or Biographies, or even True Stories. Perhaps she should have.

"Does the library carry Virginia Woolf?" She asked, slightly stunned, only assuming the library collected Magical, and Academic reading. Perhaps Fiction and other books were in the Non-Restricted section? She hadn't done much looking through all of the aisles of Non-Restriced Materials, other than a few certian sections in which she knew she could find stimulating Academic reading.

She was glad to hear Ms.Earnshaw accept the books. Glad that others might get use out of them, but even more glad that she's be able to clear out room in her dorm. Clutter, even in books, always stressed her. "Great!" She said cheerfully. "I'll bring them by later. Would you mind if I use one of the library book carts? I fear I have far too many to carry on my own." She blushed and smiled sheepishly, almost as if embarrassed.

Headmaster Vaughan then spoke up, and Kaitlyn turned her attention to him. She had the upmost respect for him. Of course, she had ever since her arrival to the school. But that was in her upbringing. Respect your elders, and especially the Headmaster of the Academy. She grinned at him. "I couldn't agree more. However, when you're looking for a book, for no reason in particular, not needing certian information, and you've read nearly the whole library, it is quite difficult. What are you looking for? Perhaps Ms.Earnshaw and I could help you?"

She knew that, even if Evelyn was busy with rearranging books, or putting books away, that she would gladly stop what she was doing to help someone find what they were in need of. After several years, most of which were in the library, she had seen this many-a-times. Evelyn Earnshaw always seemed to put others before her.

Evie noticed Kaitlyn's reaction to her suggestion and wasn't surprised. Kaitlyn tended to stick to academic texts and didn't usually stray to fiction, but Virginia Woolf wasn't just fiction, she wrote stories of people and combined them with philosophical ideas that Kaitlyn might find extremely stimulating.

"Does the library carry Virginia Woolf?" She asked, slightly stunned, only assuming the library collected Magical, and Academic reading.

"Not officially," Evie responded, realising that her suggestion of non-magical literature might sound somewhat confusing, "but I'd be very happy to end you a few of my own copies if you're interested. I know fiction hasn't been your cup of tea, but I think Woolf might be a fascinating read for you."

"Great!" She said cheerfully. "I'll bring them by later. Would you mind if I use one of the library book carts? I fear I have far too many to carry on my own." She blushed and smiled sheepishly, almost as if embarrassed.

Evie was delighted. She loved getting new books intothe library and the thought of so many being offered freely made her smile. The other students would certainly benefit from Kaitlyn's act of kindness. "Certainly,' she said, "I'm glad to see at least one of the students here has a passion for reading that rivals my own, it makes my job a pleasure..." At this, another voice spoke up from behind them.

Evie turned and smiled to see the Headmaster sitting, delving into book from the restricted section. She looked up to the man i many ways, he seemed the wise-beyond-his-years type and Evie admired that in him, after all, Willow and Giles had chosen to pass the Academy on to him above all others. She listened to his concern for the length of time it might take to find the right book and immediately wanted to make herself useful.

She grinned at him. "I couldn't agree more. However, when you're looking for a book, for no reason in particular, not needing certian information, and you've read nearly the whole library, it is quite difficult. What are you looking for? Perhaps Ms.Earnshaw and I could help you?"

"Certainly," she responded to Kaitlyn's offer, "I can see you're looking for something specific and I trust that Kaitlyn and I could find it..." she said, putting an arm around Kaitlyn's shoulder to illustrate a newly formed team. She had no doubt that between the two fo them every book in the library had been read and it was doubtless that if the Headmaster was looking for something, they would be the ones to help him find it.

"Does the library carry Virginia Woolf?"
"Not officially,"

The Headmaster smirked slightly, hearing the conversation. He knew the library didn't really stock much fiction (something he had always planned to remedy, but had never found the time to fix), but already knew that the new librarian was slowly adding a few books that didn't always seem useful at an Academy like this one. However, this did please him. The further a student read, the better informed they were. And a Slayer developing an imagination was only a helpful thing.

I'll bring them by later. Would you mind if I use one of the library book carts? I fear I have far too many to carry on my own."

"10 points!" said the Headmaster suddenly. He had noticed that there had been hardly any points awarded to the students and figured that a generous donation was worthy of some points for spirit. "Glad to see a student keen on sharpening the the minds of others," he said by way of explanation.

"I couldn't agree more. However, when you're looking for a book, for no reason in particular, not needing certian information, and you've read nearly the whole library, it is quite difficult. What are you looking for? Perhaps Ms.Earnshaw and I could help you?"

Both Kaitlyn and the librarian seemed very eager to help, but the Vaughan was unsure if it was wise to tell them what he needed. After all, how could he put it simple enough without worrying them of what could come. He couldn't very well mention that the vampires were edging closer and closer to the Academy. It was more of a suspicion than anything else.

"Uhm," he said, stalling a little for time "I'm just researching a few methods of security. Nothing to panic about, of course, just a safety precaution."

Kaitlyn quickly nodded to Evelyn at the suggestion of letting her borrow Virgina Woolfe. Surely, if Ms.Earnshaw liked it, then Kaitlyn might as well. While educational resources were what she usually read, this might make a great change.

She was slightly startled when the Headmaster suddenly spoke out,"10 points!" Her heart nearly jumped into her throat. And when in startled, Kaitie always seemed to freeze up. Perhaps not the best quality in a watcher... but she had other qualities to make up for it.

When they spoke of helping the Headmaster, and Evelyn put her arm around Kaitlyn, the young watcher grinned and leaned into her slightly. She listened intently to the Headmaster, ready for any challenge that lay in front of her and Evelyn. And then the topic was presented. Kaitlyn raised a slender brow, almost as if she were wondering at the true meaning behind what he was searching for, but then quickly dove into her mind, trying to recall all of the books she had read.

"Are you looking for magical, or non-magical?" She finally asked after a moment of silence. She was sure Ms.Earnshaw already has a list of books running through her head.

((Ugh, I'm sorry this is so short. I'm so exhausted from the whole burgulary thing. That and I was noticing the RP was kinda ackward. The first part of our RP posts seems as though it probably should have been before many of the second half of some of our previous RP posts... if that makes any sense. Don't mind me. I'm just a wreck, with Seth leaving soon, and me not being able to spend any time with him because of stupid things like MOT, and police coming over to dust for finger prints))

Kaitlyn quickly nodded to Evelyn at the suggestion of letting her borrow Virgina Woolfe. Surely, if Ms.Earnshaw liked it, then Kaitlyn might as well. While educational resources were what she usually read, this might make a great change.

Evelyn was hugely pleased that Kaitlyn had decided to take her up on her offer and made a mental note to retrieve some of Woolf's work and get it to the student. First, she had to decide what to first give her. She would give it some thought, but Mrs Dalloway was definitely her favourite, so she was already leaning towards it.

"10 points!" said the Headmaster suddenly. He had noticed that there had been hardly any points awarded to the students and figured that a generous donation was worthy of some points for spirit. "Glad to see a student keen on sharpening the the minds of others," he said by way of explanation.

Evie almost fell over with fright. The Headmaster's sudden outburst was certainly unexpected and she couldn't help the shock that had hit her. "Well, there you go..." she said, calming down, with a chuckle she added,"Glad to see you're not stingy with your house points, some of the teachers seem to have forgotten they actually exist..." Kaitlyn deserved the points for her giving and helpful act and Evie was only regretting that she hadn't thought of it first.

"Uhm," he said, stalling a little for time "I'm just researching a few methods of security. Nothing to panic about, of course, just a safety precaution."

A little bell went off and Evie couldn't help but be a little sceptical. It might have been the way Headmaster Vaughan had spoken, but she felt that there might be more to what the man was looking for. She could, however, see that he had his reasons and so she was reluctant to bring up her new concern in front of a student. So instead, she gathered a list of books in her mind based on the slightly vague description.

"Are you looking for magical, or non-magical?" She finally asked after a moment of silence. She was sure Ms.Earnshaw already has a list of books running through her head.

It was a good question, the Headmaster had not stipulated what type of 'security' he was hoping to reference, but she was leaning toward the magical. "A book on Vampiric Defense Perhaps?" she asked, hazarding a guess in a way that she hoped wouldn't be too revealing.

OOC: Hey, sorry to here about the burglary, hope you are all ok... All I can say is hang in there, although I'm seventeen I've also had my moments... Life tends to get better. smile.gif

Vaughan grinned slightly as Kaitlyn jumped. He decided against laughing at her in case she took offense, but e did offer a warm smile in return.

Well, there you go..." she said, calming down, with a chuckle she added, “Glad to see you're not stingy with your house points, some of the teachers seem to have forgotten they actually exist..."

Vaughan gave a small shake of his head. "It's nothing when points are deserved, it just seems true that few teachers even know such a system even exists. Perhaps I should address that with them at the next staff meeting," He chuckled, knowing how pompous he must sound, but it was true that very few points were being issued. Unless of course they were being issued but the students were misbehaving so much that all the awarded points had been taken away.

He doubted that option a little, considering that he believed his students to be well-behaved. Or at least they were in his presence...

"Are you looking for magical, or non-magical?"

"Well," said Vaughan, reluctant to divulge too many details of the possible predicament. "I'm not entirely too certain at this point about that..."

"A book on Vampiric Defense Perhaps?

"Uhm," Vaughan stuttered slightly. Evelyn had just spelled the problem out- and in front of a student. "I'd better go," he said after a short pause, before mumbling something about a forgotten appointment.

He scurried quickly from the library, deciding that t would be best to resume such research later- when there were no students ... or teachers who could alert the school to such potential problems. Returning to his office, Vaughan sat down, figuring that the threat wasn't too great to worry about just yet. The Academy's security was surely efficient.

OoC: Sorry about the jump, that's my fault, I think. ninja.gif Hope things start going better for you!
