YVD: Getting StartedDownloading YVD:When you download YVD, you should be downloading a Set-Up file. Double click the set-up and proceed as instructed by the program. Once the set-up is complete, you should have the following files:
Decks (folder)
Images (folder)
Sets (folder)
Skins (folder)YGO Virtual Desktop V086 (file)Those are the main things. All of the other files that come with it should NEVER be touched, EVER. They help the program to run properly.
Downloading cards for YVD:Now that you've Downloaded YVD, you need to download the sets and images. Let's say for example, you download the Strike of Neos or SON set for Yu-Gi-Oh, when you download it, you should have a zipped folder labeled "
SON set".
Right click the folder and click "Extract All" This should give you a duplicate of the
SON set folder, but the new folder should be unzipped. If you wish, you may now delete the zipped folder. Now, open the unzipped
SON set folder and you should find a file called
SON set and another folder called
SON which contains a bunch of pictures. Take the SON folder with all the pictures in it, and move that folder into the
IMAGES folder you got from the Set-up. (remember, move the
ENTIRE SON folder into the
IMAGES folder, do not just move the pics because then the pics won't show when you start playing the game!)[/U]
Working with YVDSetting up your YVD profile:Double click the
YGO Virtual Desktop V086 file to open YVD. A window called YVD Connection Options should pop up. Click the "
Settings" button in the middle to open the settings window. The settings window might be hard to see at first. To fix this, go to the "Chat Transparency" bar and drag the bar all the way to the right side of the window. The window should now be solid and easy to see. Go to Username and type in a name you would like to be called. Do not worry about Language and Skins, Language is default set to English, and we will discuss skins later on in the tutorial.
Once you've gotten your Username typed in, click "
save settings and Exit". This will save your settings and take you back to the YVD Conection Options Window.
Downloading New Cards directly into YVD:On the YVD Connection Options window, click the
Duel button. This will open up two windows. One window is the Deck Shop, this is the window you'll be using to download cards, build decks ect. The other open window is called "Yu-gi-Oh Virtual Desktop V8.6 Final (Released: 1/21/05)" which is useless until the game starts.
Lets focus on getting cards into the game. On the Deck Shop window, there are 3 buttons at the top left corner of the window. These buttons read "
Load Deck", "
Save Deck", and "
Import New Cards to Database". Click the "
Import New Cards to Database" button to open a window with the same name as the button you just pressed. Click "
Browse" to search your computer. Find the
SON set file and click open. Now, click the "
scan .Set file for new cards" button. There may be a typo on the button that says "now" instead of "new". Just ignore that. Now a list of all the cards in the SON set should show up. Make sure ALL of the boxes have a check in them and click "
Add all selected cards to database". Now all of the cards have been successfully loaded into your YVD! Congratulations!
Every time you download a new set, do the same things listed above. Move the folder with the pics to the
IMAGES folder and import the set file. It's that easy.
Now let's get to the fun part.
Building your Deck:Now that you've downloaded the SON file, or any other file you plan to get, you can find your cards in the Deck Shop by going to the "
Show Set" tab and selecting SON (or whatever the 3 letter initials of your set is). Every card in that set should now appear on a list towards the center of the window. Click on a card, and the image will pop up next to the list, and beneath the image will be a description of the card. REMEMBER, if you didn't move the picture folders exactly as instructed earlier, then the images will not appear in the Deck Shop when you click a card, the images will also not appear during gameplay.
Now, to add a card to your deck, simply click the card and click the "add to deck" button. Now your cards name should appear on a list to the far left of the window. The number next to the card tells you how many of that card is in your deck. You can only have a maximum of 3 of each card per deck. When playing Yu-gi-Oh, some cards arent allowed to be in a deck more than once or sometimes not at all.
A deck must have a minimum of 40 cards. Any less, and the program won't let you take it into a game. Also, you cannot have more than 80 cards in a deck.
Beneath the "import new cards to database" button, you'll notice a chart. This chart tells you how many cards are currently in your deck, and how many of each type. This makes deckbuilding easier since you don't have o count your cards before you pay.
Once your deck is complete, click the "
Save Deck" Button. You want to save your deck inside of the
DECKS folder you got from the set-up. This makes finding your saved decks easier. Now that your deck is saved, you can't lose it. Now, if you wish, you can click the "
clear all" button to erase your list and build a new deck. Don't worry, you saved your old deck, meaning you can always go back and get it by pressing the "
Load Deck" button. If you saved your deck in the
DECKS folder, then you should have no problem locating and loading any deck you've previously saved.
Playing the game:I assume you already know how to play Yu-Gi-Oh or Shining Nova TCG, so instead of going over the rules of the game, I'm gonna go over the mechanics of the system.
When you have a deck completed and it's loaded, click the "
use this deck" button at the bottom of the Deck Shop. When the window pops up asking you if you're sure, click "
Yes" and you will be taken to the "Yu-gi-Oh Virtual Desktop V8.6 Final (Released: 1/21/05)" windo we mentione earlier. Now, you have two choices, mess around with the system, or duel. If you mess around with the system, you'll learn a few things.
Messing Around with the System:Controls:Ctrl + S = Shuffle Deck
Ctrl + D = Draw cards from top of your deck
Ctrl + F = flip a coin
Ctrl + C = Copy highlited text (useful for board Dueling)
When you draw cards, the cards in your hand will appear in a small white box in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on a card to hilight it, then right click it to get a menu. This menu will give you a list of things to do with a card. Once you put a card onto the field, the menu will change when you right click it.
On the field, you'll notice 3 special boxes labeled Graveyard, Deck, and Fusion Deck. If you know how to play Yu-Gi-Oh, then you know what these are for, and you can click these boxes to see every card in your grave and fusion deck. Clicking the normal deck however, is anothr way to draw 1 card from the top of your deck.
You'll also notice your opponents and your own LP at the topleft. Right clicking your LP allows you to change it since the system won't calculate LP on it's own. Your opponents LP is also listed, but you cannot control that, only your opponent can.
LETS BATTLE!There are 2 ways to battle, online, and communication battle. The most common way to battle on invisionfree is communication battle. Both players play the game alone, but they use forums and topics to post their every move and their every counter attack. This type of dueling is common BUT is highly open to cheaters since not everyone will be honest about what they draw or what they actually play.
Another type of dueling is online, but this requires an IP adress to be exchanged. Most people don't want to give out their IP because it's a direct computer identification code that can be used to hack you, BUT, it does allow you to directly connect to your opponents YVD and their cards will appear on your screen as you battle.
Some people can protect their computers with Hamachi which is an IP generator for your computer. It gives your computer an alternate IP. This is good because if a hacker figures out this IP, they cannot use it to hack you since it's not your computer's real IP adress. This allows for online play without the danger of being hacked.
How to play online:WARNING! All Firewalls and blockers must be OFF to play online!
To play online, you and your opponent must exchange IP's and you have to decide who will be the host. Both players goes to the dueling board and click the "
game" tab right above the LP chart. The host clicks Manual Connect and typs in his opponents IP and click "
connect". The opponent on the other hand clicks the Listen button instead of manual connect. On the new window, click Listen and wait for the host to connect to you. For the person listening, you will see a red notice at the bottom, right above the notice should be a little line of text that reads "listening..." this tells you that you are open and allows the host to connect to you. The host must be searching at the same time the opponent is listening. Once you're connected, you can begin dueling. You may also use the chabox at the bottom of the screen to chat with your opponent.
There you have it, everything you need to know about YVD. Enjoy!
