A dark form struggled quickly - almost as if being chased, or in pursuit - up the mountainside, straining desperately against the rocks and groping in the dark. It made its way blindly up the inclining plane of rocks, occasionally stumbling over a stone, consequently mumbling angry threats to the empty black air around it. The soft glow of the moonlight was the only aid to the creature as it climbed; but it was also a hinderance, as it seemed to be a searching flashlight to the shifter.
After an interminable amount of time, the silhouette seemed to find a safe refuge between several large boulders which created a sort of protective cavern. The shifter squirmed into the crevice and drew its knees up to its chest, hardly daring to breathe. She was safe here; the shadows were her protection as they had always been . . . Or so she thought. |

Biriyah gazed out at the stars from underneath the scraggly cover of a twisted pine. She tilted her head back, closing her eyes, wish sleep to overtake her. Down the narrow path behind her the sound of hurried feet and falling rubble came steadily closer. Slinking behind the tree she held her breath listening. "Only one person.... and its in a hurry." She crouched down and peered out as a dark shape stumbled past and around a bend, out of side. Biriyah slowly stood and walked out to the path, leaning down and looking at the tracks. "Its human of coarse, and doesn't look very threatening, but what can I tell from its tracks? No much." She thought to herself. She straitened herself and sauntered down the path in the direction the human had gone. "This might be a bad idea, it could be vicious....oh well." A pile of large rocks were looming up ahead, shining sliver against the deep black velvet ski. Biriyah warily eyed the bolders, anything could be crouching there, waiting for an unexpecting passer-by to leap on and eat. She shivered, wraping her cloak tightly around her. "Hello? Anybody there!" She stood silently waiting for a reply. She thought she saw something move slightly underneath the stones. "Hello?"

The figure crouched beneath the boulder jerked silently alert as it heard the other being approach it. Wincing as she raised her head, the shifter immediately strained her eyes and peered out into the dark mountain air. She could barely make out the silhouette of another person on the slope below, and was immediately suspicious - as always.
Quickly sizing up the other person in what dim light there was, the panther-shifter decided it better to reveal herself, as the other person obviously knew she was there. Eyes narrowed, she carefully crawled from the shelter of the boulder. The cold wind greeted her with a biting sting on the shoulder where the knife had pierced her skin; the shifter's tangled ebony hair and glaring emerald eyes must have seemed somewhat threatening to the cloaked figure before her . . . |

Biriyah jumped, sending loose rubble down the steep path sides, as she saw the girl emerge from the pile of rocks. "Oh my gosh! What were you doing in there... your hurt."
She back up a little remembering that things can be mean when hurt and cornered. She squatted down, getting eye leavel with the girl, motioning to her, "Hey, I'm not going to hurt you. It's ok you can come out." Wait, she thought, I'm talking to a human not a dog. "I just want to talk to you," she added standing up. |

(OFT: Uh-oh. Poison hath a stalker!
Still suspicious, the shifter listened impatiently to the other's words. So get to the point, and quit treating me like an injured animal, Poison thought angrily at the other. Yet the other shifter actually seemed genuinely fearless of her - something Poison had rarely encountered. Fine, then. I'll talk - and see how long you last. Ari stepped forward, crossing her arms slightly defensively and trying to ignore the other shifter's previously insulting remark about her being injured. "All right. So talk." She replied bluntly and warily watched the other shifter with dark and dull emerald eyes. |

Biriyah blushed, "I was wondering... ah ya.." she gazed into the others beautiful green eyes, "I saw you on the road back," motioning behind her, "and I was wondering if... theres a village near? Some place to stay the night." I wonder what she is doing out at this time of night, wounded, and hiding in a bunch of rocks?"Do you live around here?

Ari raised an eyebrow with yet more suspicious inquisitiveness. It was the middle of the night, and this stranger wanted road directions to the village suddenly. Obviously, she was lying when she said she wanted to 'talk.' Well, Poison still couldn't figure out her motives, so she decided she'd play her game - just a little while.
"East," Ari replied simply. "And I'm not sure what you mean by 'around,'" she added, stalling perhaps a little bit. |

"East," Biriyah repeated, "Is it a village of um.... people. No, no that sounds all wrong." Oh! I hope I'm right guessing she is a shifter. But then again, why would she be out here if she wasn't. "Is there a.... I mean," She cleared her throat, "I heard there was a shifters village round here." Biriyah stood bitting her lip; at first she looked at the girl infront of her, then looked away. Why am I so ashamed? If I'm right there's nothing to worry about.

"My name is Biriyah." She said releaved and excited. "So there is such a place. Do you live there? Or, forgive me, I'm being to hasty, of coarse. What's your name?"

Angry at the stupid, useless human ears she had, the shifter cast a suble glance past Biriyah's shoulder into the woods below - just in case . . .
Hmmm. "Yeah, there is such a place. No, I don't live there." If I did, then why would I be out here? Poison asked herself, smirking at the other person's shallow depth of logic. As for the name - 'Biriyah' seemed pretty honest about hers. Poison might have revealed her own name, had it not been for the fact that she didn't trust Biriyah in keeping it. So Poison lied - for Biriyah's own 'safety,' she told herself. "Name's Rhavaniel Naerwen. Rhav for short, if you want," she enlightened Biriyah, wondering if she had the slightest idea what that meant. So, stick with the friendly stuff . . . ? Ari felt herself asking inwardly. Yeah. For now. |

Wow, nice long name. "Rhavaniel, huh." Biriyah rolled it around on her tongue, weighing the word, "Nice name, i like it." She tried to be as friendly as possible, she never like having to meat new people, especially in the middle of the night on a narrow road. She wasn't particularly afriad of Rhav, but something was bothinger Biriyah. She couldn't quite make up her mind if this girl was a shifter or a human. She had an innate sence that this WAS a shifter, but Biriyah was never a very confident soul, and something was telling her notherwise. She tried to break the awkward silence that had built up, "So where do you live? If not in the people village or the shifters? Is there more villages around? I don't know this area very well...." Biriyah almost smacked herself, there she was again getting nervous and just rambling on. Shut up, shut up! I better get out of here before I make more of a fool out of myself. Or before I provoke....Rhav.

"I live nowhere," Ari replied, keeping her tone level again. Somehow, she regretted saying those words. Hadn't she once lived with everyone else? Hadn't she just once been loved, treated with genuine respect; hadn't she once been a someone?
"Nowhere," Ari repeated, almost to herself. She fingered a lock of jet black hair and stared vacantly past Biriyah's shoulder, almost falling into the memories which she had already told herself long ago to get rid of. Enough with the pity-party, Poison snapped angrily. Ari blinked quickly and paused to scratch a pale hand. "The people's village is stupid, as are most of the shifters around here, and so are all the other villages," she added scoffingly, not realizing she had indirectly answered Biriyah's question. |

"Ah, a wanderer, so am I. And I better be getting off so I can reach that village by dawn." Biriyah smile, ready to depart. She half turned and then stoped, she sighed and drooped her sholders, "Where did you say the village was, east..... something like that. How many miles?"
