Title: A Possible Return

DK3 - May 19, 2008 08:03 AM (GMT)
I know this may seem like a mirage, or I might sound like a broken record or whatever, but I'd like to propose an offer; what if I return and redo the website? Would you guys be willing to actually pitch in and submit articles to the site? Not be so absorbed in the character submissions section? Or perhaps someone here can learn a little .html / .php and help out with the submissions section of the site? Otherwise, my focus will be to get a sturdy site going with an abundance of helpful tips and information on the entire Super Smash Bros. series.

Also, if I do make a return to the SSB: Mercurious business, I'd like to by chance also cover the Flash series. Smash Flash 2 should be coming out this summer and it's looking pretty good, although I'm kind of miffed about majority of the stages being past stages.

Anyway, some early thoughts I'd like to get some input on:

1. Should the color scheme remain the same, black and dark blue? Or should I change it to something brighter, like white and blue?

2. Would anyone happen to know someone who could do better quality graphics for the new site?

3. What are some good Smash Bros. / Nintendo sites to trade links with?

Other than these, I can't really think of a whole lot right now, but if anyone has any great ideas please feel free to post them.

Ooh, almost forgot to add this in there too, if the site does return, I plan to hold tournaments. Not our typical forum tournaments, real Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournaments. I have the means to record the matches that I can spectate (and others could spectate them too anyway) and then post the matches on the site for all to view. I'm not sure about prizes though, but the whole idea should get people motivated to join the site and forums. And this will only be possible if the site gets up and going first.

Well DK3, your very presence here is enough to give me hope back in the site. I'll contribute whatever you ask, though, if you choose to continue with this project. I saw SSB: Mercurious as a fun site with a lot of potential to grow into a great source of information and other interesting features.

I'm all for it, sir. ^^

As for your questions...

1. I say stick with the color scheme. I always liked how it was easy on the eyes.

2. Sorry, I don't know anyone in particular.

3. Hm...give me a few minutes, I'll be back with a list soon.

I don't know... you let us down a few times. The spammers even attacked while you were gone.

PrettyPinkPwny - May 19, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
First, to answer your numbered questions...

1) No, keep the current color scheme. Change is bad. I like these colors.

2) Yeah, I could probably find some new graphics.

3) Well, I hate to toot my own horn here (okay, yeah, I love it), but I'm a Global Moderator at Brawl Central now; one of the biggest Brawl websites around. I can definitely get us hooked up with them. If not just a link to the site, but maybe some kind of partnership if you want. They do tournaments, and we could do tournaments; it'd be like some kind of hawt website love affair. Or, you know, we could just stick to linking to Brawl Central.

I'd really like to see you return. Hey, maybe it could be a permenant thing this time! I really enjoy this site and everyone involved, and I was really thinking it was about time to abandon ship. That is no good. I'm not really a big fan of web design (took a class on it in high school and it frustrated me terribly), but I can write articles (My Major is in English!) and stuff and whatever.

You know I'm in. :)

I think it's perfect

DK3 - May 20, 2008 06:29 AM (GMT)
Always good to hear from you guys again, seems I've got some catching up to do with spammers too, hehe. *Equips Ban Hammer*

So, good to hear that the current color scheme pleases people, so I guess I won't change them, but a third color may be needed to complete some of my new design ideas. I was thinking maybe a dark red.

As for graphics, what the site really needs right now is some banners, so if anyone can make them or knows anyone who can, please, by all means, let me know.

The first step in content for the site should obviously be to get some Brawl content up, so we shall start with the characters and stages for now and work from there. It's probably best to start small anyway, but I plan on having information on everything regarding Smash Bros., atleast that's the long term goal for the site at this time. Everything from character strategies and a complete Subspace Emissary walkthrough to covering every single sticker and trophy.

I've been around Brawl Central lately, pretty nice website if I may say so myself. For now, a link would be very helpful and maybe further down the road some bigger partnership opportunities could maybe be established.

I don't trust you. -_-

DK3 - May 21, 2008 04:59 AM (GMT)
I won't try to convince you to trust me CaptainUlt, just give it time and see for yourself.

Welcome back, DK3. You made a bit of a late reappearance, though it sure was dramatic!

Well, welcome back to me as well, as I had about a one month's absence out of.... boredom. :P

CaptainUlt has his rights to not trust you. You left us for almost five months and left us spambot bait! Nonetheless, I still trust you. You've just been busy and whatnot. :)

To answer your questions:

1. Keep it the same. We have a pretty unique styled website. In other words, keep it Melee style; don't change it to the 'Brawl style' like everyone else.

2. I used to be a pretty good spriter back in the day. I think I might be able to make a good site graphic. Do you mean just a banner, or something else? I pretty much know for sure I can make a verging on great banner.

3. I have some connections with the Spriter's Resource, a great video game sprite site which mainly focuses on Nintendo. Sadly, I haven't really written any of the guys down there for about a year or so. Either way, I'll see what I can do. ;)

EDIT: I have something screaming in my head that if we created character, and perhaps even stage guides, we could easily increase site hits. Maybe Pwny could give a heads up to Chris at Brawl Central if you do decide to do something like his character guides, eh?

EDIT 2: Meh. Forget about me making a banner for the time being. I'm much too busy to put the required effort into it. :P

Sorry for the double post but, HUGE BREAKTHROUGH! Add downloadable stages to the mix. Many sites offer them, and they are always unique. :)

Also, some links to sites you may want to add to the site links section:
The Mushroom Kingdom
Fire Emblem Planet
The Pokemon Crater
Starmen.net

Alright, first bit of good news on the progress of the site: I have acquired every single music score from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, all 312 songs! They're all in .mp3 format and are of excellent quality! My next step in adding them to the confirmed feature list will be to edit them and make them shockwaves, like how they did on the dojo. If I added them to the site as downloadable files, the bandwidth would skyrocket and the site would reach it's limit within days.

I'll give you guys a taste as soon as I finish the first one. Just don't expect it today.

Jonno - June 5, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
I'm glad that you are now really commiting yourself to the site, DK3. I hope I can make some good articles for Mercurious someday. (Any requests? Anything about Fire Emblem, musical score info/reviews, items, and stages I can easily do.)

By the way, did you ever get the message I sent you concerning the items page? If the format isn't right for you, just say so. ^_^

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that adding downloadable stages = bandwidth limited exceded. No one wants that, so forget it.

I'll help look for the Smash Bros. and Melee music as well.

EDIT 2: Maybe we can also add music from other games we may find, concerning Brawl's combatants of course. For example, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker music for Toon Link being in Brawl. That would be easy enough to find.

In my website adventures, I've also found that 'Fire Emblem Planet' has entire Path of Radiance and Moshno no Nazo (Mystery of the Emblem) playlists.

EDIT 3: All Melee music can be found here: http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/ninte...tml

Hey! Cool, I return, and DK3 comes back too! I was just going to drop by, and if the site wasn't active, then remove its Bookmark. I'm so glad you have finally returned.

Anyway, down to business:

1) I'm all for this color scheme, but Dark Red may give us some more leeway to banners and the like.

2) I don't know anybody, but I have done some graphics for Revolution Games, a small little free-games website thing.

3) I don't know of any websites to partner with other than the websites that the others have mentioned. Sorry! :P

Jonno - June 6, 2008 02:40 PM (GMT)
Dark Red.... in my personal opinion, that would be copying Brawl Central. :P

I'm glad DK3 is finally back too. In a mathmatical equation... DK3 + Dead Mercurious = Live Mercurious :o
