MIKEP - July 4, 2011 02:32 AM (GMT)
I went thru the Maritime Service Training School on Catalina Island.I signed on to the Cape Martin in San Francisco. We loaded up with Ammunition at Port Chicago, and took on a Deck Cargo in Point Richmond.Wee sailed all over the Pacific, and wer gone quite some time.

Is it possible to get a crew list, and or a Loig Copy ( Am willing to pay fo it). I reside here at THE VETERANS HOME IN YOUNTVILLE CALIFORNIA. There are many MERCHANT SEAMAN VETS HERE..

I have great memories of my Trip as a youth with the CAPE MARTIN..Can you help me out. My grandkids love to hear my stories, but have lost all my Pictures and Notes, as I came back and joined the Air Force ( Stayed in 8 Years) - but lost em in my many moves)..

Any body out there help me??

Thanks
Paul Maier

Welcome aboard, Paul (MIKEP).

I did some Googling and found some info for you.

From Karsten Kunibert Krüger-Kopiske, who lets us use his drawings, the SS Cape Martin was a C-1-B brealbulk cargo ship, built by Consolidated Steel Corp., Wilmington, CA.

I also found a photo.

Regarding the Cape Martin I have an address of a man who may have a picture of your ship. I will give you his address but it may be out of date. About 6 months ago I received 2 pics of my former ships and the price was very reasonable. He is listed on the net too and may have his present address listed correctly. My pics were the glossey kind. The average price was 15 dollars and they are are sent well protected . He is well known in maritime circles.
His address was WILLIAM HULTGREN
5005 ZUCK ROAD -- LOT 32
ERIE, PA.----16506-4973
His telephone number was--- 1-814-833-7894
I have called him 2 times in the past and received several good pics of my former ships.
PS--- if he has moved and you can not get him then go to the net and put his name in. He will come up. I did this and it worked to get me some good piics.
Hope your luck is perfect------ Tee Vee---Old Sea Dog
1st ship--MUNCIE VICTORY
Last sHIP-- John W BROWN
and a bunch in between

Thanks, Tee Vee. You always come through.

Here's a link to a USMM.org page with photo sources. Mr. Hultgren is listed.
