Flex is overrated! From the looks of it, I bet that rig would perform better with a lower ride height. ;)

Here's a good read.... http://www.rccrawler.com/axialcompbuild.html

Thanks alabamaman

alabamaman - December 1, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
IF I get one all the green is gonna get the easy off oven cleaner treat ment ! then some polish or blacking! The body shows that have been getting some practice!

Rockcrawler - December 1, 2007 03:48 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I will probably cut the bed off of it this weekend. If you look close at the pic of the body, you can see where the bed is cracked on both sides. Its just flopping back there.

alabamaman - December 2, 2007 07:31 PM (GMT)
I two suffered from floppy bed issues last season. I had to use the tape w/fiberglass strings in to hold it on !!!

There goes your link geometry.............can you say axle steer?

my2cents

Rockcrawler - December 5, 2007 12:29 AM (GMT)
Do all bent links do that to a truck?

Fishmaxx - December 5, 2007 02:32 AM (GMT)
I have no idea..........I am just making stuff up that sounds like I do :ahhhhhhh:

Ask Austin and Joey they know about that crap

:flipoff: I was ready to throw them in the trash. :flipoff:

I think its mainly the top links that help or hurt that....not positive though. ANYONE????

yukon635 - December 5, 2007 03:21 AM (GMT)
I may be wrong but I believe that the axle steer has to do more with how the bottom links are. the bottom links being triangulated has to do more with reducing the axle steer and then having the top links either straight or triangulated ( I dont think the top really matter) but i could be wrong.

Kamikaze - December 5, 2007 03:35 AM (GMT)
Bent links don't do anything to the suspension geometry. Its still 2 fixed points, you can tie a knot in your link as long as the distance between points is the same. The scorpion is gonna roll and steer like crazy cause of the fawked up geometry.

Thats what I thought. I should have known better than to listen to fish. :nah nah:

I put a caliper on them to make sure they were the same eye to eye when I cut them. ;) Thats what I thought. :flipoff:

Destroyer - December 5, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
That is still very bad link geometry though. Both uppers and lowers triangulate inwards towards the axle.

Chewy - December 5, 2007 06:29 AM (GMT)
Looks fine to me, axle steer is determined if the triangulated links are parallel to the ground. It's a lot easier if you think about you triangulated links like a one link with a pivot at one end, if it's at an angle you'll get axle steer. The lengths of the links also play into it as well as the truck flexes. Anything with solid links is going to have some form of axle steer.

To me the suspension geometry looks fine, not the best but it should work alright. I would probably put a washer or two between the chassis and the bottom link though to space the link inwards. I also like the idea of keeping the uppers and lowers at equal length. It also looks like if you flipped the links around they would run along the line of your drive shaft better and give you more clearance, but it's hard to tell from the pics.

Rockcrawler - December 5, 2007 01:27 PM (GMT)
Ok, thank you everyone for the info. I just made these at work yesterday. It only took about an hour and that was because I had to use a chop saw to cut the all thread. So I had to file the ends down to fix the threads. But I am going to change some stuff on it anyway. It dont take that long to make them when I am home because I have a dremel. But I am also planning to make the top links like Austins rigs are. As soon as I get some cash, I am going to buy one of his. :D But the good thing I like about this is the fact that the tubing I use is Stainless. Stainless slides very well on the rocks. :thaking:

Well CSR, I am trying to get it looking as good as I can for you.......it will be the only part of the truck that you ever see. sspank

yep what he said, link geometry has to do with all 4 links not 2 or just uppers or just lowers just triangulating them a one direction or the other is not all that there is to learn it is a combination of where they are mounted on the chassis ,how long they need to be,where you have created your roll center verses where your center of gravity is the list is very long and every truck is different as far as how much the chassis weigh's ,trans ,motor , your driving style you can make a truck that has the worst 4 link ever do good on one obsticle but the object is to have a truck that is very versitile ond do ok all around my2cents

Well, your my2cents along with some of the others my2cents 's are worth $$'s to me. :D I am going to get this rig doing the best I can until I get funds straight around here. We will be having a baby this week or next (due 10th) so I cant spend alot on a chassis right now. But from what I have read and what I have seen, it will definately be your GC1 chassis. Then maybe I can come back and kick ass like I use to. :nah nah:

And thank you for everyone's comments and help.....except fish.

:flipoff: Some of us have to drive and build.

Rockcrawler - December 6, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
I dont think I am going to waste my time messing with the links anymore. I have looked at trying to get the axial link setup close to the same as the GC-1, I just think its going to be a waste. :flipoff:

On another note, I think I screwed up my lipo. I went to look at my truck last night to see if I could get more steering out of it. When I went to turn it on, I noticed the battery was still connected. (There is a CC BEC on it). DUMBASS  Anyway, I checked the voltage.........3.56 thats for a 3 cell. I took it outside to the truck (inside my bomb tube :flipoff: ) and tried to charge it. Would not take it so I had to throw some juice to it until it got to 9 volts. When it got to 9, I reset the charger and let it charge for a little. When I checked it last night, one of the cells was off by .03 . Maybe it will be ok, just got to get a balancer before I fully charge.

RXCRAWLER - December 6, 2007 11:38 PM (GMT)
If it took a charge it should be ok IMO (but I'm not a battery expert) just get it balanced and charge it up and always unplug your battery.

Here are the pics of the Dig setup. I have to remember to drive forward a little when it unlocks or it will slide back about 1/4inch.

Thanks. Its the only way I could figure to do it. :ahhhhhhh: The pin is not going to snap and I dont think the axle will.

Darn filter has photobucket blocked at work.... I'll have to wait til I get home to see it and make fun of it. :flipoff:

I still haven't had time to work on my '08 rig. I could post pictures of my boxes of parts!?!?
