Hear ye, hear ye!

There be a ship in port by the name o' The Siren. She's full o' mystery an' wonder, howe'er is also a herald for superstition.

Aboard this here vessel be a lady cap'n. Tha's right, a lady. Cap'n Swift, white as a soul from Davy Jones' locker, is lookin' fer a crew to sail the seas for a bout of honest piratin'. The requirements to sign on with the She-Devil? Ye must be female.

If ye be one to follow the superstitions, then ye better turn hide and scurry off. Fer this here ship will have no men aboard. There ain't nothin' in all the seas unluckier than a woman on board, so a ship full o' lasses shan't be easy-goin'.

Now, Cap'n Swift won't be havin' any sissy-footed girlies aboard her ship. Ye best have experience on the waters or be willin' to learn and learn quickly.

Are you up to the challenge of bein' a lady pirate? What trials await those who sign with the She-Devil?

There be only one way to know fer sure…

Has anyone ever played Sid Meier's 'Pirates' game for the PC? I agree with the idea that there should be some different ports. I can get some out of the handbook for that game.

That handbook also has a lot of information on the different kinds of ships, too, if it's needed. It's not too detailed, but it's nice if you're just looking for an overall picture.

If we stick to one area of the globe (a good sized area), then we can break it into smaller areas, each with some major ports, smaller settlements, indian communities, hidden pirate coves, and more stuff like that.

The game is awesome, by the way. You should all check it out.

EDIT

Is there a way to slow down the scroll speed for the welcome box? Some people may not be quick enough readers to read and comprehend the words before they disappear to the top of the box.

That makes sense. I just read the marquee running in the welcome table..... How are we going to fit men into the picture. I understand the concept of women of women only on the ship, and would very much like to see that kept, but it would be very restrictive to have men have only the possibility of villager. Will we be having other ships, in lesser detail than the She-Devil.

I don't see any reason as to why a man wouldn't be able to be brought on the ship. I think, for the whole female thing, it's mostly for the crew. Like, almost all the crew is female. You know, just to prove to the world that they can do it or whatever. But what are the chances of filling all crew positions with solely females, especially when it comes to more of the technical jobs? I'm sure that exceptions could be made if it was the right guy.

Just my opinion.

I can see where you're coming from, Monday. I just liked it because it draws you in, you know? The lady pirates are the main plot of the site, they're the focal point...which is why I liked the message at the top. I was going to mention the other male ship in the actual plot, which has yet to be written. So, there are going to be guys...that's just a detail I'm still trying to work through.

EDIT: What do you think of these ship names? The Siren's Song or the Siren's Shanty? I got it from this:

The Sirens sang songs to sea travelers to lure them to their deaths. Their songs were enchanting and would make sailors forget their sense of direction. The sailors would steer straight toward the island and crash into the rocks that surrounded it. The island grew white with bleaching bones, from which the Sirens would make musical instruments. According to Appolodorus, the talented Sirens boasted not only a vocal trio, but a small instrumental ensemble, two accompanying the third on lyre and flute.

QUOTE
What kind of ship is the She-Devil, a galley?

I'm thinking either that, a sloop, or a brigantine.

That makes sense, I was just confused. As for the ship's name I personally like Sirens Shanty. Though, I'd think Chantey would be more appropriate, It doesn't have the double meaning of poorly built

Well, I like The Siren's Song. That really speaks because after all, it is the siren's song that lures men to their deaths in the first place.

I just went ahead and changed it to The Siren. It's short and to the point! I like it.

Now, I suppose we should start setting up the rest of the board. I need to start researching towns and ports...hmm...

Okay, I know this isn't much, but I figured something out.

The little welcome box with the scrolling text? There's still bits in there that refer to the name of the ship as the She-Devil. I dunno how to edit it (or if I'm even able to edit it), so I thought I'd let you know.

Also, the links right under the welcome box all lead back to BH. I love BH (smile.gif), but this isn't BH. Again, I'd fix it but I don't know how or if I have that particular power.

And is there anything you want me to do? I'm bored and need something to whittle the time away with... lol.

I am really sorry for not being on lately, it's just that my second semester classes are really tough and I've had virtually no spare time. When I do get some down time, I sleep.

I'll try to get back on as much as possible, but I'm not promising anything. Again, I'm really sorry...

Oh, Shay...thanks for pointing that out. I'll fix it when I get the chance.
