A new book about Ellis seems to be coming out soon.
The Lives of Albert Ellis : The Authorized Biography (Hardcover) by Emmett Velten, David Burns (Introduction) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/188436536...glance&n=283155 Book Description This biography of Albert Ellis, the colorful, prolific, and famous psychologist and sexologist, explores Ellis's life from his childhood in the Bronx to the present. His various "lives" are examined, including those of paperboy, Hebrew scholar, songwriter, poet, accountant, efficiency expert, paid social revolutionary, sexologist, novelist, humorist, psychologist, bestselling author, and prime mover of the sexual, cognitive-behavioral, self-help, and brief therapy revolutions. Ellis's long-time confidant and colleague, Emmett Velten, based much of this account on autobiographical books and essays Ellis wrote as a teenager, as well as a large number of in-depth interviews with Ellis himself, family members, friends, and professional colleagues. In addition to treating Ellis's almost innumerable professional accomplishments, this authorized biography contains lengthy descriptions of Ellis's relationships with famous people both inside and outside of the field of psychology, including B. F. Skinner, Timothy Leary, Ayn Rand, Hugh Hefner, and Lenny Bruce. About the Author, Emmett Velten -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Product Details Hardcover: 320 pages Publisher: See Sharp Press (May 1, 2006) Language: English ISBN: 1884365361 |

Here's what Psychology Today Magazine has to say about Dr. Albert Ellis' latest book, The Myth of Self-Esteem:
Don't let the title fool you. In "The Myth of Self-Esteem", 92 year-old Albert Ellis, legendary founder of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, summarizes his life's work, which is a stimulating examination of how the teachings of the world's greatest thinkers and philosophers dovetail - or don't - with Ellis' three core concepts: unconditional acceptance of the self, others and the world. From Jesus' injunction to turn the other cheek - which he calls "other acceptance" to Sartre's approach to shame ( which smacks of radical self-acceptance), Ellis dissects paradigm-shattering philosophers with an eye towards his own work. The two are never exactly alike, but the differences are often illuminating. The book, which includes multiple self-acceptance excercises, may be among his best. Every page offers a fresh insight into REBT- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy - Ellis' doctrine of modern stoicism. |

I see that Al's autobiography, all 670 pages of it, has been announced for February 2007 release by Prometheus Books under the title "All Out!".
I very much look forward to reading that... The two Ellis books by Emmett Velten, the biography "The Lives of Albert Ellis" and "Under The Influence: Reflections of Albert Ellis in the Work of Others" have been postponed yet again, with November 2006 as current publication date. Anybody know why? I've had both on order at Amazon since November 2004. That's a long time to wait for anything... Steve |

I wouldn't worry about those faux 'release dates' from the publishers, I think they just pull them out of their...computers.
Dr. David Burns new book "When Panic Attacks" was delayed for a couple of years, until it finally came out, dates constantly changing. Personally, I ignore those alleged pre-release dates, as they are always about 1-2 years off! It might be a technical thing, or it might be a way to try and build a book "buzz", or it could be a corporatist publisher thing. |

The Emmett Velten books discussed here a year ago are *still* not available.
"The Lives of Albert Ellis" has meanwhile been retitled "Albert Ellis: American Revolutionary", according to Amazon, and is allegedly slated for August 1st publication. I'm not holding my breath. Three years of delays does strike me as unusual to say the least. Are all parties holding off until they know how the last chapter should read??? Steve |
