The Friday Night Workshop In Exile (and related topics) An employee of the Institute, Raymond DiGiuseppe, reported that Dr. Ellis had "lost control" of a Friday Night Workshop. He alleged that Dr. Ellis could not hear the participants, and responded to questions with answers that were "off the mark." Dr. DiGiuseppe was not at the Friday Night Workshop in question. Similar allegations were made by Dr. Windy Dryden. Dr. Dryden was not present at the Friday Night Workshop in question, either. The Board used these allegations as justification for terminating the Friday Night Workshops in July of 2005. 1. Since October 2005, Dr. Ellis has, at his own expense, rented a room in the building next door to the Institute to conduct the popular Friday Night Workshops. Audience members report that Dr. Ellis shows no signs of the incompetence alleged by Dr. DiGiuseppe and Dr. Dryden. a. On February 22, 2006, Dr. Ellis wrote to Bob O'Connell, the new Executive Director of the AEI requesting use of the AEI lecture hall for the Friday Night Workshops. Mr. O'Connell wrote back to Dr. Ellis the next day denying the request. b. The Board has made no attempt to investigate the claims made by Drs. DiGiuseppe and Dryden. Nor has it reviewed its actions. The allegations made by Dr. Dryden and Dr. DiGiuseppe stem from Dr. Ellis's hearing loss. The Americans With Disabilities Act requires that accommodations be made for the deaf. In an apparent breach of the Act, instead of making those accommodations, the Board terminated the Friday Night Workshops. Forum Led by: Rational Living |
