Title: Taking seminars in light of current situation
Description: Should I attend an upcoming seminar?

Mick - December 12, 2005 07:41 PM (GMT)
I tried posting this once and it seemed not to take, so I am repeating it.

I was excited to learn about REBT and thought it would be very useful to attend a 3 day seminar at the institute in preparation of my upcoming practicum.

However when I learned about the current situation I was shocked and disgusted. In light of this I do not feel comfortable attending the institute, as I cannot support how they have treated Dr. Ellis.

This puts me in a dilema. I really need the training they provide, but attending the institute in its present state would be akin to supporting what they are doing.

Also, there is a question of how firm are they adhering to Dr. Ellis' philosophies. Certain things I read lead me to believe that they are straying.

thanks,

Mick

This is your personal decision to make.

Why not send a quick email to Al, and see what he has to say about it?

Has Ellis called for a boycott yet of the AEI? If this keeps up, it would seem logical that a boycott is the next step.

I know I would not attend anything with those people.

It's up to each person to make their own decision. I personally would not choose to attend an AEI sponsored workshop at this time, for two reasons ...

1. I would not care to financially reward the usurpers with my hard-earned cash.

2. I would not be sure what I was getting. Although both Dr. B. and Ray Di from AEI say no changes have been made, we have seen that their statements are not accurate. REBT is being downplayed in favored a generic therapy or therapy that is labeled CBT, but may not be.

My students are free to make up their own minds, but I am no longer actively recommending that they attend any training put on by the illegitimate AEI.

The recommendation to write Dr. Ellis is a good one. His address can be found here:
