Rock VS Rap, which do you prefer

I'd hesitate to even label modern rap as music, let alone better than rock. Almost all of that stuff is just materialistic 'gangsta' bullshit that speaks about violence and womanizing. Ya know what? That's not what shit is REALLY like. That IS NOT REAL LIFE. Rap does not 'expose the pain of livin in tha ghettos', it shows how fucking stupid people are for staying in them.

Now OLD SCHOOL rap though? THAT is music. Shit was just about having fun and shit. That's what music should be about, not 'cappin sum nigga' or 'livin in tha hood'.

As for rock, in order to lay any judgement, I'd need to seperate the genres.

If we're talking heavy metal, most of that stuff is incomprehensible garbage. I honestly cannot understand the appeal of listening to some guy scream random bullshit as much as I cannot see the appeal of a 'gangsta' spitting curse words and racist slurs. Shit is garbage, hands down.

If we're talking soft rock, that shit is goddamned emo music for middle aged women. Fuck that shit. Fuck it to hell.

Power metal? Usually this is a much better version of rock since ya know, you can actually UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PEOPLE ARE SAYING.

Classic 80's rock? That shit varies so heavily in quality, that it's nigh impossible to label it as good or shit since it varies from band to band.

Really, it's not possible to decide which is better, because what this topic is asking us to do is essentially choose between shit and piss (with exceptions for some songs/bands), and I honestly do not like having either being poured into my ears.

I like Metallica, and Pink Floyd.
I think they both qualify as a class of thier own.

Eh, I still don't like Metallica. Pink Floyd, love em. Although Boston is still my favorite.

I find with bands, there's an old side, and a new side. There are fans to one side, then fans of the other. And then, there's bands that keep it consistent, but I find that those bands get old fast. But, considering Pink Floyd, they have three sides. Old, Roger Waters, then new. The new stuff, like The Division Bell, sucks, but...

I have seen a lot of Metallica actually. I have friends that love it.

My favorite rock era was from 70s-Early 80s.

I suppose I prefer the old pink floyd..but like I said. Boston > All.

Oh well, we all agree that rap sucks, so I'm happy.

Some rap can be alright....Some of them have good voices for example Lil Boosie, Eazy-E....and as much as i hate to say it..Lil Wayne. But Marky Mark is by far my rapper . Him and Will Smith, The Fresh Prince theme song is priceless.

Though I am a music nerd. My favorite song is Your Song by Elton John...so ya....I like all music.....art in one persons mind is also art in mine. I can't bring myself to disclaim any music.

I like Rap better than I do Heavy Metal. I don't think you can say one is greater than the other because saying something is better than something else is soley opinionated.

I like classic rock, and the occasional alternative, but Heavy metal these days is just a bunch of emo kids screaming themselves hoarse. Ie: Greenday
