We all know what mods are right? Well if u don't know just search it on wikipedia. but should we get in trouble for doing it. I know on the console online end doing it in ranked is bad. But what if you just want to mess around with a few friends? Me The companies should care if it goes into ranked games other wise don't bother.

I was unaware there was controversy in modding. If anything mods add to the worth of a game and would make them more worth buying, thus helping the company that made the original.

I heard that modding is pretty good practice for starting up game designers. Oh well, they shouldn't care at all. You can't sell the mods, and it's not like it's detracting from sales.

This is my strict view on modding...

"If I paid for it, I'll do whatever the F*** I want with it!"
As long as you aren't selling anything, you've done no wrong.

Uh... I'm not sure I "get" this topic.

I don't know what the situation is with console modding, but mods have been a staple of PC gaming for many many years. The smart developers go out of their way to make their games as mod-friendly as possible; they encourage it because they know it adds flavor and longevity to a game that would otherwise become dated very quickly. Generally speaking, a good indication of how successful a PC game will be in the long-run is the size and quality of its modding community.

Quake, Counter-Strike, Half Life, GTA, Sims, and the Elder Scrolls are good examples of series that have enjoyed (and continues to enjoy) a lively modding scene.

Now, what about any of this is supposed to be bad again?

Well on the console side of modding, if the game is playable online, on a service like xbox live, if you mod on a ranked game, where things count and all that crap, you get banned for life. But if you mod just with your friends, and having fun not bringing the mod to ranked then youll be fine. But some companies, like bungie (guys that made halo) just won't let people mod PERIOD! Before they never cared as long as it stayed out of matchmaking (ranked) but now if my friend mods a map, to have just spartans and elites just standing there and a few turrets in the ground, he can actually get in trouble for having fun. Hard to explain. VERY Hard to explain.

whoa whoa, wait. you're talking about CONSOLE MODDING

That's not calling modding, ya mook, it's called PIRACY.

Installing chips in your system to play games you downloaded off the internet and burned to CD or DVD is very illegal.

Or...since you're talking about XBOX live servers...regular modding?

If they're hosting the server they don't have to give a shit.

Still don't give a shit either way.

I don't actually care either way, seeing how I never play any PC games or any console games online. Nor do I even know how to mod games and I'm not even sure I've played a modded game anyway. But from my blind standpoint, I don't see much being wrong with it.

Now what's even more fun is modding console game roms for new play content on your PC.

Rest assured, the world would be a much nicer place if you had never existed in the first place, and that you deserve to have your hands removed then thrown into fire in order to prevent any of the future abortions you call "comics."

I can't find an emulator that doesn't suck. Most have messed up music and a horrible frame rate.
