Title: Conventions
nagisaki - February 20, 2009 09:01 PM (GMT)
Since I'm bored at work without much to do until I have to install a minor patch on a server later, here's a topic about conventions. Anime, Sci-Fi, sex toy, etc.
Who here has gone / goes to conventions? Got any awesome stories from them?
Larxene - February 21, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
I went to one, for a few hours. (I should never leave my house. =o)
Although, knowing now that there is lots of sex there, I'll probably go next year (I'm broke, and can't go this year.) and stay the whole weekend. >w>
Volcof Prime - February 21, 2009 04:13 AM (GMT)
Larxene what is it with you and sex, are you so lame that you must go to a convention with a whole bunch of nerds to get laid?
BTW I have gone to a couple gun shows looking for more fire power, I think that counts.
Nothing exciting happened except me biding on an AK and loosing.
But as for the nerdy ones, no I haven't been to one.

Yes and no.
I'd mainly go for the lulz.
I'd tease people into thinking they could have sex with me, then they'd get denied.

Larxene - February 21, 2009 04:34 AM (GMT)
Your point?
I have little to no desire for interactions with people anyway.
Nightchava - February 21, 2009 04:36 AM (GMT)
Just pointing out that your obsession with mentioning your love for casual sex is a byproduct of your intense sexual repression.
I don't think there is any shame in being a virgin.

Casual sex > Relationships
And no, I don't repress anything.
Nightchava - February 21, 2009 04:39 AM (GMT)
That may be so, but I get the feeling you have nothing to do with either.
Larxene - February 21, 2009 04:41 AM (GMT)
Nope.
I'm a virgin, and I don't care.
The main reason for that is because I rarely leave my house, except during the summer since I have a job. (I need money for video games.)
Nightchava - February 21, 2009 04:49 AM (GMT)
You get very defensive. I'm not saying that being a virgin is any sort of bad thing.
Volcof Prime - February 21, 2009 04:50 AM (GMT)
So, since we are in a divulgitory mood. Want to say anything else interesting about yourself?
Larxene - February 21, 2009 04:52 AM (GMT)
No, you pretty much know everything.
My life basically consists of video games and internet.
Volcof Prime - February 21, 2009 04:55 AM (GMT)
oh come on... I'm sure there has to be something.
LukkiStarr - February 21, 2009 08:20 AM (GMT)
The dragons will be happy of this virgin sacrifice... Or perhaps they'll come back to torment me once they notice they're not happy with the sacrifice's personality... Then again, they never mentioned anything about personality, only virgin sacrifices. Hmm...
I haven't been to any cons (mostly because I dislike travelling very far (I get lost easily)), but they're holding one in the town in which my school is, so I may as well go and have a look around.

Yeah, so anyway, enough about how many people on this forum are vigins, like, most of them. There's no major issue with being one.
I have so far only been to 1 convention. It was Otakon, er.... 2002, I think. It was tons o' fun. I bought some anime and watched a lot of anime at various screenings. I was going to wear my Princess Mononoke costume I had made from the Halloween before but my cat had peed on the main part of it so that was a no-go.
I'd like to go to another convention but I don't feel like I have enough of a fanatical interest in anything to go to one. Plus they are expensive. But I will keep it in mind to try to go to one at least one more time in my life.
nagisaki - February 21, 2009 08:27 PM (GMT)
I used to go to cons mostly to hang out with friends, enjoy the atmosphere, and meet people who are usually pretty interesting. There are a few things that make it all the more awesome, though. Sometimes there are cool things in the dealers rooms, you get to meet awesome web comic artists / actors, etc.
Then there's the night life, which is why I've been going as of recent. The raves, the parties, the random goings on of the hotel room...
God I can't wait for my next con >_>
SgtLion - February 21, 2009 08:43 PM (GMT)
I've never been to a con and never heard of one being near me.
I need to up the awesome level in my life.
Stupid everything not letting me go to awesome conventions.
Spritescaper - February 21, 2009 09:52 PM (GMT)
Three things stopping me from going to cons:
1) Limited budget
2) None take place anywhere near my current place of residence
3) Horror stories of con-goers with limited knowledge/application of personal hygiene
Still, I wouldn't hesitate going to one if someone were to extend an invitation. My friends and I have considered going sometime after graduation, but we opted for a road trip to Florida instead.

Which is why I believe some people dress up as Darth Vader. I think they have working gas masks/air refresheners/whatever else in that mask. That would be pretty clever, actually. Same goes for stromtroopers, I guess.

Though there are a few goers of cons who have an odd allergy to hygiene, for the most part I haven't ever really had issue with that. Honestly the place you'll find that most often is the video game and pen and paper rooms (I can forgive the later, but seriously, put down mario sunshine for a fucking half hour to bathe).
On a slight change of subject, do none of you really have any near you? Where do you live that has no conventions to go to?
Larxene - February 22, 2009 05:55 PM (GMT)
There's one near me, every year.
I've only gone once, and I didn't stay in one of the hotel rooms either.
The hygiene of the people there wasn't too bad.
Superdude66 - February 23, 2009 01:54 AM (GMT)
I haven't and I will never ever ever ever go to a con. Ever.
robertllynch - February 23, 2009 02:31 AM (GMT)
We should hold a convention for our community. Call it PagodaCon or something. Any excuse to get drunk, right?
derek - February 23, 2009 02:45 AM (GMT)
I went to a couple of them.
I really hate the whole "free hugs" shit.
Sure it's great when a cute girl hugs you, but not many cute girls attend cons.
Most girls who attend cons are really fucking annoying anime enthusiast, who like saying "nyu."
And for future refrence if any of us meet, and you greet me by saying "Nyu" I will deck you in the face.

You're lucky I have some semblance of self-control on the forums.
If you were in the chatroom I would have banned you for that.

Once I move into a place big enough to have guests over, I'll be glad to host it. But by the time I can afford to move, it might be PagodaCon '13 or so...

Given our small size, it probably won't be much of a "con". A gathering of drunken guys playing poker is more like it.
Larxene - February 23, 2009 06:19 PM (GMT)
I'd say you could have it at my house, but it's where I hide the corpses.
Maybe at my uncle's house.

... but what's wrong with that? Come on, if Vermont is allowed to call Burlington a city, we could call that a con
