This vote thing seems a little silly (O_O) ... I prefer rock over rap any day but the topic seems a little limited for discussion.

It's all a matter of taste. A thing I like about a rap is it's simplicity.
I was watching a performance of snoop dogg on north sea jazz, and I was entertained. So it does achieve it's purpose.

Most of the time I prefer rock though, but I have no hate to rap or something.

Why Rock? Interesting variety of things you can do with it that can lead to bands with amazing instrumentation, thoughtful lyrics, or just plain catchiness (and at best a combination of the three)
Why not Rap? I have always valued instrumentation above all other parts of music and rap is just plain void of any effort to compose something instrumentally. Also, the lyrics are so often degrading to women and/or just about plain stupid stuff. This might explain why I love the beats of a groups like Ratatat (straight up instrumental electronic stuff, with real effort to compose something interesting) and absolutely love Rage Against the Machine (essentially just rap, with amazing rock instrumentation, and great lyrics that mean something).

I'm sure there are excellent rap groups out there but you would never get to hear them on the radio.

I never really cared much for rap. Just a bunch of words with a catchy tune in my opinion. And its like talking not really singing. On the other hand ROCK DOMINATES. Someday it will be All That Remains(lol one of my fav. bands)

Why you like () genre the most? Rock just has more of a musical 'flavor' or sound than rap...while thats not the case in some other genres, i really really like guitars(hate country music though, seems as if the guitars arent used to their full potential) I also like the beat of rock....very...rockish xD

yes there are some good rappers every-no-and then, but you cant find them through all of the crappy ones out there, because d*mn-near every celeberity that raps is in their way.....
