What a uneven battle...

Er... I voted for tommy's because after reading sk8's topic on pixelation it seemed he went way too much in Delgneith's direction with little of his own style... Obviously sk8's final product is better then tommy's but tommy's original (assumed to have been done with no help) was way way better then sk8's original.

Sk8, something about yours looks...familiar.

EDIT : Wait, never mind. The style reminded me slightly of Bisque's art.

I think tomsters is more original and just all around better because it's pretty dang hard to make human faces, no offence or nothing sk8 I like yours too.

In retrospect, after looking at this, I wish I would not have voted at all as neither of you deserve a victory over the other in my opinion. I would call it a tie.

Yer I thought I was making a mistake helping out with picture edits in a pixel war, I helped tomster the most and tried to help Sk8 a bit but he got most of his help from the pixelation community and 9_6, etc. (look at is WIP topic at pixelation and here). I think the piece tomster put up was a lot easier to make then sk8's was a lot larger a piece. if sk8 had of progressed further on his own it would have been a sure win for him as large cartoony pieces are very hard when it comes to creating depth and such. I would probably go for Sk8 as a piece as he successfully implemented a great number of edits into his own and though it looks very similar to Delgneith's edit he did retain some of his own style and got the piece to around the same standard as the edits even though it wasnt as similar. Tomsters is a smaller piece but doesnt convey all the points of improvement the edit provided.

Why do I feel like you guys are pointing with your fingers at me...
I've just given pointers on the sauce and the eyes.
Besides WIPs aren't forbidden in pixelwars, are they?

Looking at that pixelation topic, I must say that sk8 was *very* influenced by Delgneith, almost copying his edit.
The shading shapes almost look alike and he didn't add anything on his own.
I wonder how this would have turned out if Delgneith just wrote down the pointers instead of actually posting that edit...

:P sorry 9_6, I should probably make clear that im not suggesting anyone who helped out is at fault. There arent any explicit rules in 'pixel wars' to suggest we did anything wrong, but all our contributions heavily influenced the competition. It looks as though sk8 has won. Even though his was heavily influenced by edits I would say he probably deserved it for spending considerably more time trying to make his piece look good. I guess we will see who was more deserving when Tomster and Sk8 release their next few pixel pieces, as it will show how much information they have learnt from the edits and suggestions taken to these pieces.

Ian - November 22, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
@9_6: Sorry if I made it seem like I was mad at the editors which I'm not I'm just saying personally if I made a piece and someone edited it I would most likely turn in the original and then make a version incorporating the edited qualities as practice after the competition was over. My main point was to simply show how both pieces evolved through editing and examples.

@Tomster: Sorry, didn't know you didn't like being called "tommy"- wasn't meant to be offensive or anything.

@Tomster & Sk8/The Community on a Whole: I would consider incorporating a rule into your rules for each other that says your submission must be posted on here as the final before being posted in any other form anywhere else (a.k.a. there must be no edits or wips made before the competition is over). This way we get to observe your purified skills and no one has to question who is actually better.

I agree, there was a huge jump in the quality of sk8s sprite, thenks to someone showing him how to shade it nicely.
