Title: Diplomacy thread

(with a lot of colours , font size and attribute's, which vanished after the copy-paste :( )

And then those two post (always from HAK) :
QUOTE
Good day all,

As you know i've just sent you a draft of the Persian-Mongolian Alliance.

I would like you all to review the agreement and provide feedback where necessary. I understand each respective Empire must conduct private discussion/voting amongst themselves, but this should be done as a priority to move this forward.

Mongolia: I'm not sure on your current GB structure.. are Rakkasan & Thalatta in the Mongolian GB?

GS.

QUOTE
Oh and 1 more thing. The agreement should also contain

The Empires involved will communicate using a Persian-Mongolian shared private forum....

I did not make any answer.

Fosse - August 28, 2006 12:45 PM (GMT)
This is very interesting, but I just want to clear up one thing: Who sent it to you? HAK would probably not draft a Persian/Mongolian alliance! ;)

EDIT: Nevermind, I have the messages too. Great Scott sent them.

niamor - August 28, 2006 12:52 PM (GMT)
Of course, they were from GS! :um:

Fosse - August 28, 2006 01:38 PM (GMT)
I talked with Great Scott a little bit. I let him know I was uneasy about article 3, since it might impact our Open Borders with China and make it harder for both of us to trade for our mutual advantage. We agreed on the following text:

QUOTE
3. Persia & Mongolia will, where applicable, try to avoid all forms of trade with parties not included in this agreement, particularly scientific technologies. Before any trade or agreement Persia or Mongolia makes with an Empire not part of this agreement takes place, the other allied party must be notified and have 24 hours to disapprove of this trade or agreement. Otherwise, the trade/agreement may proceed.
true
me: That looks great.  It keeps us both sovereign over our own diplomacy in all but the most egregious circumstances.
I'll update our forums and we'll make our debates over that text.

and he changed point 6:

QUOTE
6. Persia & Mongolia will maintain a defensive pact and should assist each other in all matters of war.

niamor - August 28, 2006 02:23 PM (GMT)
And you must sign with your blood? :P

Fosse - August 29, 2006 04:31 AM (GMT)
Well, I suppose we should vote on the Treaty as-is. The articles niamor posted, with the two changes I posted.

Those in favor:

Fosse

Those against:

Those not yet voting:
niamor
Thalatta

I'll investigate what the voting breakdowns would be.

Fosse - August 29, 2006 04:59 AM (GMT)
Did anyone talk to any Siki (or Chinese) about our potential alliance with Persia? White Elk wrote me and had knowledge of our trying to arrange an alliance "against" China (I don't consider what we are planning to be "against" anyone. It sounded like he knew about our dealings.

niamor - August 29, 2006 05:20 AM (GMT)
Not me. And if I did such a mistake, it would have been at the other side : I would have spoken of an alliance with chinese against persia! :D

Of course I vote for the treaty.

Fosse - August 29, 2006 05:38 AM (GMT)
I recognize of course that WE could just be guessing that we've been talking to Persia... or a leak from Persia. I just wanted to make sure we made no mistake before asking GS if they've been talking.

With me and niamor voting for the Treaty, that ratifies it, as our GB votes will outweigh Thalatta's single BB vote.

I'll let Persia know.

Thalatta - August 29, 2006 09:57 PM (GMT)
My vote would be yes, simply because a) I trust you two to know what you're doing far over any objections I might have, B) I have no objections, even though I don't know that much information regarding how that would impact diplomacy in the game and c) I'd rather not slow down due process.

As for being "against" China...well, doesn't this just switch them from ally to neutral? ;)

Fosse - August 30, 2006 05:53 AM (GMT)
I don't see it as impacting our official stance with China at all. We are currently in an agreement with China, from long ago, that we would come to their aid if they are threatened, and they would come to ours. We have had a productive friendship and some military alliances with them since.

The alliance with Persia is simply an agreement that China is not a party to. Some of its provisions certainly may eventually complicate matters with China as a matter of course, but that is not because our relationship with China has been downgraded.
