Commodore James Norrington

Commodore James Norrington

An honorable title that rolls off the tongue with exquisite ease, setting this man high above the rest. For he was keeper of the keys in these parts, so to say, and the highest ranking officer among those stationed at Port Royal. Ah yes, James Norrington was a fine man of his time, a powerful and loyal servant to the crown.

It had been less than a year since the man had done his paces in the ceremony, thereafter dawned with the title of Commodore. Then his life had seemed fairly complete. He stood behind a fair fortune, had a reputable standing with the King, and was graciously named leader of the Fort. And to add icing to the cake, James had won the hand of Port Royal’s loveliest young woman: Elizabeth Swann.

Elizabeth was a fine woman, raised as a Governor’s daughter should. Not only was she beautiful, but she was also equipped with intelligence, a feature many of the upper-class women decidedly lacked. It was for this reason that James seemed to fall hopelessly in love with Elizabeth, for he so desired a lady that he could converse with.

Unfortunately, it seemed as though life did not favor the few honest and good hearted men in this world. For no sooner had James been deemed Commodore, the notorious Jack Sparrow found himself fit to ruin the evening, though he did save the man’s beloved from a watery fate. Still, James saved the day as his first act as Commodore and locked ol’ Jack away to face the hangman’s noose.

And then she coasted secretly into Port Royal, black sails furrowed menacingly in the darkness. It was the Black Pearl, housing at least a hundred monstrous beings who sacked the merry port and stole away the only woman James had ever loved: dear Miss Elizabeth.

But of course, when things couldn’t bear to get worse, they did. A man by the name of William Turner ravished the only glory the Commodore had managed to keep. The wretched peasant boy broke a certain Mr. Jack Sparrow out of prison and together, they managed to cheat the Navy out of their most prized ship: the Interceptor.

A fortnight at sea found Elizabeth back on his ship, rescued from a desolate island and in the foul company of Mr. Sparrow. Having not only regained his love but also promised her hand, things were beginning to take a turn for the better.

A turn that drastically recoiled to a downward slope.

A ferocious battle and long voyage later found Commodore Norrington at the hanging of the legendary Jack Sparrow, which of course wouldn’t end with a hanging at all. In fact, the event left James without a captive and without a fiancée. For the annoying and reckless blacksmith had managed to steal her fair heart.

And James hated him for it.

But that was all in the past, and his fortunes could only improve. He would go after Mr. Sparrow and finish him once and for all. Escape was no longer in his vocabulary, and Commodore James Norrington would make sure of it.

The man smiled magnificently as he peered down upon the busy citizens of Port Royal, carelessly going about their everyday chores. He stood over one of the many thick stone battlements of the fort, hands clasped gently at his back and brilliant gold adorned navy jacket glistening in the morning sun. His men had spent the entire morning brooding over the Dauntless, making her ready to set sails to the horizon the following day. James could only wait with rising anticipation. He could taste victory in the salty sea air, so close that he could almost touch it. Jack Sparrow would die before the noose if it was the last thing Commodore James Norrington did, and for all we know, it just could be.

((I'm sorry it took so, so long!))

Elizabeth Swann

After the rather alarming accident the first time she had ever worn a corset, Elizabeth had vowed never to wear one again. Of course, that was not meant to be. But still, she avoided wearing a corest whenever possible. She would do whatever she could not to have to wear one, and usually got away with it.

Today was not one of those days.

Today she was out shopping for things for the wedding, and the maids had insisted that since she was going out in public, she needed her corset. It took a lot of arguing on their part, but Elizabeth finally relented. She had refused to let them lace it tightly, but still it was restricting Elizabeth's ability to breathe, and her ability to move in general. It made the whole task of shopping quite unpleasant, and instead of enjoying the beautiful day as she had been hoping, Elizabeth was left in a foul mood, wanting nothing more than to go home.

Alas, she was not even half done with her shopping, and so she plodded along, standing up straight, concentrating on breathing, and attempting to look pleasant even though she felt like screaming. She paused in the shade of a palm tree, fanning herself with one hand and pressing the other to her stomach. This whole experience would be much more fun if she weren't wearing the blasted corset.

She lifted her eyes and saw Commodore Norrington watching the people bustling around. Vaguely Elizabeth wondered if he had seen her, and if he had, would he come talk to her? Elizabeth rather hoped not, for more than one reason. Obviously, it would be awkward. Not only that, however, but Elizabeth wasn't sure of her capability of holding a conversation at this point; and of course her mood was not conducive to conversing with anyone other than the salespeople.

With this thought in mind, Elizabeth unconsciously took a couple small steps back, thinking to shield herself from his gaze. She simply wanted to go unnoticed and continue her shopping in peace. No, actually, she just wanted to go home and get the stupid corset off. She grimaced slightly and looked up again toward where the commodore was standing.
