Personality:
Masuyo comes across as the ditzy artist type and a flake. He doodles constantly and on any flat surface; annoying the hell out of his siblings, who constantly find scribbles on the kitchen table, no doubt. He really enjoys art and hopes to make a career out of it, some day. Masuyo has a hard time verbalising his feelings, usually ending up mumbling and laughing nervously a fair amount, and paint or drawing acts as his main outlet for his feelings. He has a whole sketch book that pretty much acts as a diary and which he refuses to show anyone.

Generally, Masuyo gives off the verge impression that he isn’t exactly all there. He is forgetful and irresponsible when it comes to things such as cleaning or remembering to go shopping. However, he is the complete opposite of this when it come to his siblings. He cares deeply about them and tries his best to make sure all of them are looking after themselves. This includes Takehiko, who he regularly berates about working too hard.

Although he is usually mild-mannered, Masuyo can have a temper when he wants. This usually only comes out when someone he’s close to is threatened. For the most part however, Masuyo is the sort of person who can get on with just about anyone, even if they don’t feel the same way. Despite how he acts, he can actually be surprisingly perceptive. He notices small actions and expression that most people can’t pick up… and fails to notice things that are right in front of his face. Due to what he’s been through and seen people go through, he is much more mature that you would think at first impression.

History:
Masuyo was the second-born son of Taku and Miyoko Sohma. They were loving parents for the first year of his life and he had a wonderful older brother. He was much too young and preoccupied with eating paper at the time to notice his parents distancing themselves. Instead, he just choose to cling to his brother more.

By the age of four, Masuyo had gained another two siblings; a little sister and brother. He enjoyed playing with them and had a lot of fun being the older brother. Once he had started school he began to notice something odd about his parents compared with those of his school friends. This was when he first began to realise what his parents were up to. He considered telling Takehiko about what he felt for a while but decided against it. He would probably just laugh and think Masuyo was mad or something.

One night, his parents decided to go out and left Takehiko in charge. They never came back. Masuyo realised what had happened as soon as he arrived downstairs the next morning. Although he knew exactly what had happened, he kept his mouth shut and played along with Takehiko’s attempts to keep their sprits up. Despite his constant worries about them, he quietly tried to care for all his siblings; looking after Arianna and Hikari while Takehiko went out to work. He tried to think of other ways to bring in money so Takehiko didn’t have to go out to work at such an early age. He suggested telling their Grandparents a few times but was ignored. It was about this time that Masuyo turned to his newly discovered talent in art to vent his feelings.

Once he started middle school, Masuyo got a part time job to help fund the family. It was also about this time that Arianna began getting ill and fainting. She was later diagnosed with anaemia. Although he was never as close to her as the other two, he still worried terribly and considered dropping out of school to work full-time. However, this was also the time they finally took his advice and broke the news to their Grandparents.

He is now studying at college, having somehow gained a scholarship. Recently, he has noticed a definite change in Hikari and a more subtle one in Takehiko. Although in neither case he has been able to put his finger on exactly what caused these changes he has some ideas.
