Onigiri Harvest

[Hikari Sohma]

Hikari looked at him for a moment as he payed hurt and smiled, rolling his eyes. "Like that is going to work on me." He muttered to himself as he move dhis weight, figeting slightly.

He then listened to his brother and nodded. "I thnk that sleep would be the best for you." He said with a smile as he looked around the room and as he said the next comment.

It was true, he had been out late lately. It was better outside, he felt free...like no one could hurt him. If they tried, it was liike...it fel tlike nature would protect him, guard him from all harms. At somes times, he felt he had a tighter connection to nature and to the animals then the cursed members of the family.

He looked to his brother with small smile. "O come now, 1, 2 o clock in the morning isnt that late." He said reasurringly, knowing that it wouldnt work but it was at least worth a try.

"It was worth a try," Masuyo smirked from his position on the floor. The mock-hurt would probably never work on his siblings... or friends or co-workers or anyone else for that matter but it was worth a try, wasn't it? It kept him amused, what was the problem with that.

"And sleep is a good idea. I'll be doing zombie impression tomorrow otherwise... Oh, that'd be fun! I could eat my lecturer’s brain so he could give us the finial exam and we'd all pass by default!" he mumbled wistfully. Masuyo was talking much more to himself rather than Hikari now. It was an example of one of the many strange things he did from time to time. "But sleep is good too."

"Two in the morning isn't late?!" repeated Masuyo incredulously. "I dunno how you can keep doing that. I can't stay out that late. When I try to, I either start falling asleep on people's shoulders or feel so lousy that I have to go home anyway... Not impressive and I'm supposed to be the college student!"
Pulling a face, he rolled onto his stomach and used his sketchbook as a pillow. Masuyo really didn’t' know how people could stay out that late or pull all-nighters. He seemly got tired quite early compared with most people.

Hikari looked at him and laughed lightly at his actions. Massuyo was always funny, thats just the way he was. He smiled at his brother, feeling a bit more confortable right now then he ever had before. It was like a peak of a feeling he had always been hoping to have, but hadnt been able to.

"Well, you should get some sleep, you are a college student."He said with a bit of a sly smile. "Though I dont know how you did it." He said,a small part of his old self comming back. "I bet you'll fail in..two more weeks." He said, a smile on his face to symbolize he was kidding.

Masuyo lifted his head out of his arms and stuck his tongue out at Hikari. "Hey! That's not nice!" He pouted. Masuyo knew full well that his brother was joking. Once again, he put on the mock-hurt expression.
"I can last at least anouther three weeks!" he added, with a sarcastic eye roll. Smirking, he lowered his head back into his arms.

"I don't, honestly, know how I manage college either though," Masuyo said, more seriously this time. He yawned and turned his head so he was talking into his sketchbook rather than towards Hikari. He really was tired all of a sudden. He'd been alright when he was drawing and trying to get information out of Hikari.

"Maybe the lecturers just take pity on me because I'm so hopeless... and generally sleepy... or because I'm cute. Yeah, maybe that's it. They give me good grades because I look so adorable." He laughed. Honestly, you'd think he was a puppy or something from that!

"Then again," Masuyo closed his eyes and a small smile crossed his face. "It's not anywhere near a hard as high school was! Are you surviving that?" he asked. High school definitely had been more challenging. On top of having to work extremely hard to try to get a scholarship, there had been all the trouble with friends and horrible classmates and such like. It had been certainly difficult.

Hikari looked a this borther with another wamr smile as he began to speak, talking about college. He had heard stories from other students about it but had never thought it if to be that hard. e always thought it would be a new life..a new journey.

"You'll do fine." He said with a smile a she shifted his weight, leaning aginast the wall as he listened to his brother talk. When he asked about highschool he flinched a bit.

"Well." He said. "I'm doing ok." He said. "Pink hair dosent help though." He said with a sigh. But no matter how hard he died it, it would always return pink..it was odd..like he was meant to have pink hair. He sighed ligthly. "It gives away..my sexuality." He said quietly. "Which causes rumors and such."

"Huh?" Masuyo pushed himself up and rubbed his eyes blurrily. A frown appeared on his face as Hikari talked about his pink hair. That really must make high school hard; teenagers were evil! Masuyo sent him a understanding look.

"That must make things complicated," he said sympathetically. Sitting back, he sighed faintly. "kids are evil. They're like... vultures! You throw them anything and they rip it up and make a big mess!" Masuyo accompanied this analogy with rather eccentric hand gestures.
Masuyo of course, actually knew very little about vultures. He had no idea if they did rip things up and make a mess but it worked for the correlation. He had never been very good ay biology.

"It gets better later on," he assured him, brightly. Masuyo sat cross-legged and smiled reassuringly. He kept changing positions. "Things really change in college. I got such a shock on my first day! I thought it'd be just like high school all over again. It's much better though." Grinning, he leaned across and messed up his brother's hair.
"Besides, the pink hair is awesome! I wish my hair was a different colour to plain, old boring brown... but it would look silly," He looked over Hikari's hair sternly for a few moments then his expression brightened suddenly in inspiration.
"You should say it's a fashion statement and that you are showing you individuality and not following their stupid rules," he announced, proudly... before laughing nervously. "G-d, I need to sleep!"

Hikari looked up at his borther and smiled again. His brother seemed to be able to make him smile lately. "I hope it does." He said with a sigh. He had thought about killing himself before..but for other reasons..that only flued his desier.

As he brother messed with his hair he smiled lightly and laughed a bit also. "Yeah, your hair is boring." He said with a grin as he thought abut his borther and what he said. though his brother seemed to be a ditz sometimes, he was actually very smart. He smiled. "I'll let you sleep then." He said.

"Shh... It's sensitive about that! My hair will get offended if it hears you say it's boring!" Masuyo put his hands over his head protectively. "And trust me, you don't want to offend my hair!" He shook his head and pretended to pout again. He continued to send Hikari reproachful looks for a few moments and laughed.
"But yeah, it is, isn't it?" he added, flicking up a few dark brown strands.

Yawning, Masuyo smiled at his younger brother. "Things do change, trust me. It's sorta like... I dunno, everyone grows up during that summer or something!" he assured him again. College had a much better atmosphere.

"Thanks. Although..." Masuyo's smiled faded slightly and he paused in his task of collecting up his things one again. "I think you should go to bed as well. You have school tomorrow, don't you? And you have been out late recently." He watched Hikari with a concerned expression, once again. Whatever was happening with the family was not doing him any good. Not that anything with his family did anyone any good but wasn't high school stressful enough as it was? (Masuyo had always thought that if high school were the best days of your life, he didn't want to see what the worst were like!)
Masuyo sighed and stood up. "I better get to bed now, right?" he sniggered slightly. "Oh well, night night... and you should get some sleep as well. You might feel better if you do!"
