Grudges and Forgiveness, Luna and Doom argue over grudges...

[Strix Moonwing]

"I hate this...I hate this ALOT!" Luna growled as she sat herself on one of the many pointy tips of the Ice Daggers. Giant juts of glittening ice rose from the ocean's depths, each as sharp and deadly as any ice sword. They had to be, since the warriors of the Northern Kingdoms came to the Ice Daggers to harvest the ice to use to make the many ice weapons used in the North. Luna should know...she had did it many times before when she had lived in the Northern Kingdoms.

A wind blew and ruffled Luna's ashy feathers. As if they weren't ruffled enough! She glared at the her companion, who was a few juts of ice away from her. He was the reason for her anger.

Doomfeather....

She growled softly to herself. Why, out of all the creatures in this Glaux-forsaken place, did she have to end up stuck with him!?

"..." It was the first time Doomfeather didn't have difficulty keeping his mouth shut. He knew Luna had always hated him, really, but he didn't really dislike her at all, when it came right down to it. He was more like Ludwig than himself right now. He shook his head at the angry Luna, wondering to himself where the others were, and whether or not he would even survive around Luna long enough to get to them. The storm had blown everyone into different groups, if it was anything like what happened two years ago, though he ended up with much more pleasent company than Luna. He had remembered; he had learned to read from the Brothers, and as soon as he met up with everyone else, they were blown apart. That adventure seemed so long ago...But now, one just like it would begin again...if need be, they would fight Sklardrog and the hagsfiends again, and win, just like last time...

He sighed, decided to approach Luna, and he did so quite cautiously at first, before turning casual, and determined. "Luna. Why do you hate me?" It was blunt and with complete lack of tact; something that Ludwig would say, really.

"Well? Since the start of this quest you've been suspicious of me, screamed at me numerous times, and you get along fine with everyone else. So, what do you have against me?"

"What?!" Luna glared angrily at Doomfeather, her feathers bristling with rage. What kind of question was that? He knew perfectly well why she hated him! Was he really that daff? Her eyes darkened as she stared at him.

"Why do I hate you? Why do you need to ask when you know the answer." She took a step towards him and growled. "Why? Because you were a traitor to the tree! You tried to kill Thor's love, Silver and tried to steal the ember from Strix. Not only that, but even before that happened, you helped Sklardrog do that ceremony of Darkness or whatever that was!" The more Luna talked, the angrier she got. Her feathers seemed to crackle with rage. "Face it, you've turned against us many times, Strix and the rest may have forgiven you, but I know better. If a creature can turn against his friends then he could do it again, possessed or not!

"I...guess you're right." He said shortly to himself; it was true, he had done all those things, and the way she said it stung; he was their friend, not their foe; how could he show Luna that? He shook his head, trying to clear the mess of his thoughts. He looked down into the water; hadn't he pruged enough evil to make up for what evils he had committed? What about the balance in that? Why couldn't Luna ever see the good part in him? He shook his head, more violently this time, his talons digging into the crisp, dry snow. Luna was a real pessimist, that was for sure...Maybe, she could help somehow? Flametip ahd gone to Strix for guidance, that's what he was told in Laigon's letter to him; it told the events with Flametip and Strix, and what had happened in Flametip's fragile mind. Was...Doomfeather insecure, too?

"Can sins be repented?" He asked quietly, not his usual confident tone; this one was exactly like how Flametip spoke; softly, almost to shyness...

"No," she stated bluntly. "They can only be forgotten." Glaring sternly at the boreal she added, "And I have a great memory."

For the first time, Luna noticed the usual cockiness leave Doomfeather's voice. He sounded almost like someone she could tolerate, like his brother...er...uh...oh, Flametip, right. Now she remembered. Laigon was the one that was always drunk. She didn't have a problem with any of those two, none of them were really a threat to the tree. She knew that Flametip was a genius and would be a help to any of them, but the poor owl just had no backbone, the complete opposite of his brother. Laigon may have been a great fighter but with his drinking problem, that was about it on his wonderful abilities. Basically it was no wonder that Doomfeather of become the leader of their group. He was the only one with real leadership skills.

Luna stole another glance at Doomfeather's quiet form and her eyes darkened. Maybe too good of skills. It was because of his skills that all their enemies seemed to be after him. The blacksmith knew that leadership and fighting were not the only skills that the boreal possessed.

"But.." Doomfeather shook his head; there was nothing he could really say; arguments weren't his strong points, and he knew Luna was most definitely strong in that area. She was right about the things he had done, but he didn't want to betray them...really, inside, he felt rather lonely, which was the main reason he strived to get attention. He cared about everyone, Strix, Liberwill, Koldo, all of the friends he had fought Sklardrog with those years ago...it seemed so long ago.

"If I wanted to betray you Luna, I would've done it by now. I don't want you guys to get hurt, you know. I mean, I really do care about you, and everyone else, it's just..." He sighed; now he knew how Flametip felt. If only he knew how his brother had become lately.

"...I know you won't forget on accident, but...could you forget for me? So that I can have another chance. I know you're thinking that my dirty waste of feathers probably got enough chances, but..." He didn't finish, as he turned away from Luna; he was nearly on the brink of tears; all he wanted was for thing to be the way they used to be...

When Doomfeather's voice faltered, for the first time did Luna actually feel a twinge of regret and pity. She closed her eyes and a distant memory filled her mind. It was about memory that took place about a year ago, when Will and Lud were just chicks. The two had gotten into a small fight and while she had been talking to Strix, Will had come running up crying.

"Mom! Mom!" Will's squeaky voice cut Luna and Strix's conversation to a halt as the little owlet came crying into the hollow.

"What is it my little Willtrix?" Strix asked in a motherly tone, smiling down at her son.

"I don't like Ludwig, can I put him in a volcano like you did to Skarog?"

"Dear, why don't you like Ludwig? He's you're friend."

"Lud hit me!"

"Why would Lud hit you, dear?"

"Because I hit him!" came Will's quick reply. Luna hastily disguised her laugh into a cough.

"Willtrix, you know that you're not allowed to hit your playmates." Strix scolded gently. "I think that you should go to apologize to him this instant."

Will punted. "But I don't want to. He said that I was a sissy. He deserved to be hit."

Strix placed her wing on his head and said, "Will if you don't learn to forgive your friends, then you'll miss out on the joys that friendship such as yours and Ludwig's brings." Holding his talon in hers, she whispered. "Friends fight and disagree, but you can't let anger rule over you. It'll blind you from seeing the good in a friend."

Will stood silent for a second before nodding and muttering. "I guess I'll say I'm sorry." He turned away and started to walk out when he suddenly looked back with a smile on his face. "But I'm still going to prove that I'm no sissy!"

Had she been letting anger that she felt when Doomfeather had threatened to kill Thor's love rule over her? Sure Doomfeather had did some bad things...but he had did some good things as well. If Strix and everyone else could trust him, why couldn't she? If she didn't, would she miss out on something more?

Swallowing every lump of her pride, Luna turned to face Doomfeather, who still had his back turned to her. Taking a deep breath, she spoke.

"I......I.....guess...." Luna had to take another deep breath. Apologizing to anyone was not Luna's strong part. "I guess I can forget for you."

There it was done.

"BUT I SWEAR IF YOU EVER BETRAY OUR FRIENDS AGAIN I WILL TEAR YOU LIMB FROM LIMB AND FEED YOUR GIZZARD TO THE VULTURES AND DENY EVER APOLOGIZING TO YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!"

Okay, that felt better.

Doomfeather turned, a stupid grin now plastered on his face. "Thanks. Guess you're still as fatalistic as Sklardrog. And, if it makes you feel any better, I wouldn't have it any other way." He said, his egotistical attitude now a bit tamed, more grateful for the friends he had. He looked around. His voice changed to a drawling, sarcastic one.

"Alright, now that we've got the important matters outta the way, where'd you suppose the kids are? And what should we do now? I mean, other than look for them and be responsible parents. Or babysitters, or whatever you qualify as." He finished awkwardly. It looked like they were in the Ice Daggers. They blew halfway across the Northeren Kingdoms, after taking nearly a moon to get there. What fun.

Luna couldn't help but roll her eyes at the return of his sarcastic attitude, but she had to admit, it did lighten the icy mood incredibly. Like Doomfeather, she looked around the Ice Daggers, frowning as she realized that the blizzard could have blown the kids anywhere in the Northern Kingdoms, or even beyond the Northern Kingdoms, toward the Beyond the Beyond.

"Well one thing's for sure, we can't just go wander around nilly-willy around looking for them. We'll get ourselves even more lost than them." She paused and looked across the ocean, towards the northwest. In the distance, the faintest outline of a island could be seen. She pointed a wing towards it.

"Look, the closest island is Elsemere Island, where the Sister Retreat is. The best thing to do is to start to ask some creature whether they have seen the kids. Not directly, you never know who's working for Dawn or not, but just casually. Gather information. Elsemere's Island is where we should start."
