"Happy" probably wasn't the word, and neither was "relieved". But both fit how she felt, how good it was to finally be able to hold her baby and finally take her home.
She looked down at the snoozing babe resting against her chest. Everything was sore, and she couldn't really move her arms much anymore, but all Colette wanted to do was hold her baby. Everything was so calm and content in her baby's face.
Unfortunately Maya hardly ever opened her eyes, and whenever she did she snapped them shut as soon as anyone saw. So the baby's parents had no idea what color her eyes were. It was fairly obvious, in the dark shock of hair framing her round cheeks, that Maya had gained her hair color from her mother. But part of Colette worried that the baby wouldn't resemble Kane at all...and she didn't want her future husband to have no connection with his daughter. Especially after those awful rumors....
Colette shook her head, realizing Kane was holding the door for her. She stepped inside, smiling softly. Everything was perfect. They had their baby. They were going to be married (eventually). And they were home.
Maya gave a soft squeak and shifted uncomfortably. "Uhoh." Every little thing made the young parents nervous, but at least now they knew when a cry was coming on. The babe whimpered quietly, peeping and gurgling her problems to the world. Colette bit her lip. The soreness in her breasts was fresh from feeding Maya, so it wasn't that...And she'd been changed just before they left the hospital as well.
"Hmmm, maybe she wants Daddy?" Colette had to keep from giggling nervously from the newness of this reality. She held the tiny package out for Kane to take.
