Title: The Michigan Wolverines

azrael502 - January 25, 2006 04:45 AM (GMT)
show me some love Lloyd Carr, and give me a good Sr. year for me.

azrael502 - March 20, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)
for people who care

Coaching changes (widely on the defensive side)
DB-Safety coach- Ron English
DB-Cornerback Coach- Ron Lee
LB coach: Steve Szabo
DL Coach: STeve Stripling (not a change, just threw it out there)
Defensive Coordinator: Ron English
Offensive Coordinator: Mike DeBord
Special teams: broken up into...Mike Debord-Punt. Ron Lee-Punt Return. Fred Jackson-Kick REturn. Steve Stripling-Kick Coverage.

Injuries: antonio Bass, a knee injury, which he hurt while planting his knee in some conditioning drill. will miss spring, perhaps more. more to be known in the coming weeks. the interesting note here, was that he was to work out at QB. if this means actually throwing, is unbeknowngst to me
Doug Dutch: Knee Surgery. just had it scoped to see what was wrong, as he hurt it during bowl week.

True Frosh Carlos Brown has been seen playing in nickel situations as a Cornerback, not to mention his time as a runningback.

Current 1st team o-line...
LT: Jake Long (who apparently has lost a ton of weight)
LG: Adam Kraus
C: Mark Bihl
RG: Reuben Riley
RT: Mike Kolodziej

Kevin Grady is down to 218, as opposed to his 235-240 playing weight last year. in fact, everyone in general is a little leaner and quicker.

d-tackle Terrance Taylor is still a little on the light side, but in terms of technique and strength and what not, has been a great improvement.

3 safeties have had or has some sort of nerve injury; ryan mundy, brandent englemon, and jamar adams.

Ron english, in an interivew a few weeks ago, speculated that he might go with a 3-3-5 defense. In describing the way he wants his team to play, he used the term "violent."

Luke Paul Chandler - March 21, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
A 3-3-5 might be good for Michigan. It's one of the easier D's to run in college, plus it's very effective at stopping the run and creating turnovers. I'm not sure they quite have to the personnel for it though.

azrael502 - March 25, 2006 06:17 AM (GMT)
by some accounts, prescott burgess has lost some weight, down to the 225-230 range. burgess was a high school safety. i think he could play that rover type back if he continues to lose weight. Jamar Adams is also a big guy at 6'3 210-215. i think he could play.

and holy poop michigan, why the hell would you list pat massey at 6'8? i mean, being tall is good for certain positions, but there is such a thing as too tall. (he measured in at 6'4 and 7/8's at his pro day)

michigan really needs to do something about their strength and conditioning coach. players that worked out on their own (pierre woods, at euclid with glenville guys, braylon with his father) seem to fare better in terms of quickness and such as opposed to those that don't.

That's because our coaches don't push players enough. Rather than get in guys faces trying to make them better, our coaching staff just accepts the talent they have recruited....Isn't this why we always underachieve?

CowboysOwnDC - April 1, 2006 11:53 PM (GMT)
I just wanted to point out South Carolina didn't trail Michigan once all game of the NIT Championship.

Not Once.

It was nothing short of fabulous.

I'm not going to be a dick, but you might be the first Michigan fan that agrees with me here. I've been saying this for awhile now, and Michigan fans get pissed at me and say it's because I like OSU. The reality is, Michigan just isn't as tough on it's on players as they should be.

You are definitely not being a dick about that. Any Michigan fan who doesn't agree with what I said earlier is just being ignorant, or they haven't followed Michigan for long enough.

Every year we have the talent to compete for a National Championship, and that's usually why we are so deceivingly ranked to start each and every season. Hopefully this year, the preseason polls won't hold our hand and maybe we can play like we need to prove something, rather than settle with the top 5 ranking somebody thought we deserved.

WHOOO NIT CHAMPIONS!!! BUST OUT THE T-SHIRTS! THE BANNERS! WHOOOO!!!!

CowboysOwnDC - April 3, 2006 05:34 AM (GMT)
We are indeed thrilled with our victory.....as Balkman said, we just played whatever tournament they put us in, and win. God Bless him. :D

azrael502 - April 4, 2006 05:44 AM (GMT)
i remember the day leading up to it, talking to my friend, saying wow, what now, do we have to go buy t-shirts for the NIT championship?

fortunately, south carolina saved me of this difficult quandry.

in other news, no one still knows whats up with antonio bass.

azrael502 - May 17, 2006 01:17 AM (GMT)
ok, so i'm officially starting to get legitimately excited for this coming season, like, yea, last season was, hmm...well, i think we could do sweet, hope we do sweet, but let's see. this year's like, bring it, and i'll kick your ass (although, the schedule's a killer)

It seems like Henne's going to bring it all together this year. He still has a funky release, but whatever, i'll live with it.

Hart, let's hope he's healthy. the depth behind him should be superb.

FB should be alright. Obi Obluigbo is getting a grand dick sucking by lloyd carr.

WR's deep as hell, just unproven, with the likes of adrian arrington, laterryl savoy, doug dutch, and others, not to mention guys who have been here forever like carl tabb. Breaston's supposedly improving (God, what happened to his hands? he had some awesome hands his first two years then just imploded lsat year) o yea, and the myth, the legend, mario manningham

TE is deep, talented, and athletic, but VERY unproven. Ecker's there, but i officially have him on my hit list (two straight games you pull the biggest head up the ass move ever) i'm more excited about mike massey, who should step up his game, as well as carson butler (super athlete) and quinton woods (ditto) but he'll probably RS.

OL is, as the theme is, deep and talented but unproven

DL is gonna be sick, if used right. Lloyd carr has a penchant for putting big butts on the line, but it seems like ron english is getting control and we should see the super explosive tim jamison in there, not to mention lamar woodley is back and healthy. Woodley was just dominant before he got hurt. i remember i put post on the old board saying if he would've played all year he would've had like 30 tfl's and 8-10 sacks. Alan Branch is also a sick athlete, for 330 pounds. Think gabe, only with a motor and sick athleticism

LB is deep. HOWEVER, i have a poop load of questions here. Burgess is solid, but he's definately underachieiving for his talents. David harris is a great, if not awesome run defender, however he's below average against the pass. Chris graham played sick his first couple games but for whatever reason lost his head up his ass and forgot pursuit angles or something. The depth isn't that deep, however it's talented, with the man to look out for being shawn crable.

DB is....scaring me. very little depth. well, ok, we're pretty stacked at safety, however, cornerback is thin, with really only 4-5 guys who i'd consider (leon hall, charles stewart, morgan trent, johnny sears and chris richards) worthy of mention.

Specials teams: we're dandy at punter...garret rivas...umm....yea, not to say he's bad, but he leaves you wanting for more is all.

REDiculous - June 20, 2006 04:55 AM (GMT)
Me and skorik were just talking about Alan Branch. Sporting mags like athlon, sporting news, and lindy's dont even mention Branch when it comes to being top 20 DTs in the nation or all-conference teams. Kinda surprising.

azrael502 - June 22, 2006 11:47 PM (GMT)
he has hardly any publicity. for one thing, he was playing strongside end this year (and doing pretty kickass too) so when teams look at DT they see that the starters for michigna last year was massey and watson

Luke Paul Chandler - June 23, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
Wait, this would be shocking for Michigan. Instead of a flashy all world 5 star recruit, we have a guy who's GASP, working his way up???? I won't believe it till I see it.l

Hey! Sometimes our kickers work their way up....

Luke Paul Chandler - June 23, 2006 08:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's only because you can't find a 5 star Kicker to recruit.

DeeLions - July 10, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
Mallet was tearing it up at the Michigan camp, a friend that went to it told me. He said Mallet was throwing 80 yards. I can't wait for him to come to Michigan.

Beast1530 - July 15, 2006 03:37 AM (GMT)
Hopefully, Michigan will be able to land Rojo and Dionte Allen. If they can do it, then I would consider their recruiting class a success. So far, their recruiting class for this year is looking awfully strong.

AdamJShowtime - July 23, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
anyone have any updates? im moving back to micigan in two weeks. IM SO EXCITED I WILL NOT MISS A SINGLE GAME ON TV THIS YEAR.

Job Interviewer: So are you available on Saturdays
Adam: No I'm Seventh Day Adventist (not really)
Job Interviewer: Great! You can work Sundays then?
Adam: Well, My Mom is Christian

DeeLions - July 24, 2006 01:47 AM (GMT)
Anyone else notice how unstopable manningham is in NCAA?

Luke Paul Chandler - July 24, 2006 02:00 AM (GMT)
Not when I man up Jamario on him

Luke Paul Chandler - July 24, 2006 02:25 AM (GMT)
Dude, you guys are going to see this year. Jamario is a superstar in the making. He's a bigger Chris Gamble playing SS.

DeeLions - July 24, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
I never underestimated Jamario's talent. You just failed to realize that Manningham is an absolute monster. Dave spoke the truth, nobody stops Mario.

Luke Paul Chandler - July 24, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
Manningham showed some promise, but you get a bit too geeked out on him, Dee. Care to make a bet with me on him that you'll back out of later?

Dave Ryan - July 24, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
I have to vouch for Mario. The guy is going to wear #1 next year. Although that doesn't really say much exactly, he's going to be a great one. He doesn't just have speed, he's already the best route runner on the team, and he's got sticky icky hands as well. I'll even go out and say that he's the best freshman receiver I've ever seen at Michigan. I told everyone I knew that he was going to be the guy that stepped up and became great even before last season starter (believe it or not), and I'm still convinced of that.

I think Dee is all geeked about Mario like I am because of how he only scratched the surface of his potential last season. He made a name for himself with big time plays and deep bombs, but he really was a slot receiver that didn't even get to play in the slot all the time last year, yet he still became our go-to-guy down the stretch.

Why, you lose each time you bet? I'm still waiting for to leave the boards after the UT-Florida game.

azrael502 - July 25, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
uh yea, you guys need to chill about mario. I'm more excited to see adrian arrington, in all honesty.

AdamJShowtime - July 25, 2006 12:16 PM (GMT)
yes, thank you arrington has tons more potential than manningham. i cant wait for him to finally stay healthy and get some reps. arrington is built in the r moss, d jarrett, b edwards go up and get it mode.

p.s. does arrington totally own on ncaa?

well aside from the blatent lack of respect given that a player might be A. crippled for the rest of his life and B. might not be able to play football ever again no that's not what happened. Speculation calls it a broken knee cap with plenty of nerve damage, but it's to be assumed there's more problems.

Luke Paul Chandler - August 4, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
Crippled means can't move. He fell on his knee during a conditioning drill. That's not crippled.
