Outta Our Town
A New RPG

Storyline: Immediately following the traumatic events surrounding Cassidy Casablancas' death, the newly-graduated inhabitants of Neptune take a road trip to recuperate and heal before heading off to their respective college and universities.

Technicals: We will follow the characters through emails, letters, journal and blog entries. The director (Kristen Bell) will assign 'challenges' for each character playing, and all will post 'action entries.' The challenges will basically consist of me saying, "Mac, write in your blog about seeing Vegas for the first time," or "Dick, write out a transcript of your phone call to your father," etc.

Characters may also have “conversations” OUTSIDE OF THIS THREAD, on IM or through the PM system here at NC. One or both characters must post a summary of the conversation in the thread afterwards.

If all the spots are filled and there are more users who want to play, I may allow for a few ‘extras,’ meaning you will fulfill whatever character is needed. For instance, one round, I may ask an extra to write a letter from Keith to Veronica, and the next I may direct the same extra to pose as a hotel manager and post an eviction notice to Logan for disorderly conduct. These extras will, I think, add to the game, making it more fun for everybody.

But there are spots for graphic makers as well! For every action post, I will issue one challenge to any graphic makers (whether they are already involved in the game or not). For instance, in a post detailing the group trip to Hollywood, I may ask for a picture of any character with a celebrity. Or after a post about Gia’s trip backstage at a concert, I may ask for a picture of her VIP Guest Pass. The possibilities are endless.

ACTION POST 1

All aboard! The Neptune inhabitants are off for a summer of rest, relaxation, angst, drama, sex, betrayal and grief, of course. This post will cover the beginning stages of their various trips.

Veronica Mars

Veronica, after your father stood you up at the airport, you immediately rushed home, thinking something was wrong. When his cell phone didn't pick up, you called Logan in a panic, flashbacking to the night when you thought he'd been killed. Logan came and sat with you as you waited hours for any word from Keith, and when you finally recieved a vague and insubstantial voice mail message, you became angry with his disregard for your feelings. So when Logan suggested a vacation to unwind, you jumped at the chance. Write an email to Keith, informing him of the vacation.

Logan Echolls

Logan, you were in the middle of funeral preperations for your father, Aaron, when Veronica called you. You dropped everything and rushed over, and witnessed as she almost descended into the same state as she'd been that horrible night a week before. When Keith finally gave word of his whereabouts, you knew that she needed a break and suggested the vacation, and you were pleasantly surprised when she accepted so easily. You plan to leave immediately, but unfortunately, this means leaving your sister Trina in the lurch with the funeral plans. Write a "helpful" to-do list for your sister Trina, with some "well wishes" for her plans for your "dear" father's last hurrah.

Dick Casablancas

Dick, after learning of the terrible events of Graduation night and of your brother's hidden dark side, you are well on your way to descending into a drunken stupor. Fortunately, when you started to stink up the living room, Kendall called the only person in your address book that answered--Gia Goodman. She immediately sped over and convinced you that a summer away from Neptune was an awesome idea, and now you and she are about to leave on a month-long tour of California's most exclusive and posh resorts. Write a note to Kendall explaining your motivations for the trip.

Gia Goodman

Gia, when Kendall called you, you were in the middle of a The O.C. marathon-induced catatonia, and you jumped at the chance to take your mind off of your late father's death. You raced over to the Casablancas mansion and dragged Dick from the depths of his depression, convincing him of the merits of a trip. You figured that you and he had something in common, and that you could have someone to confide in about the death of your father. Post the email that you sent to Dick, trying to convince him to go on the trip.

Wallace Fennel

Wallace, you are one of the few of Neptune's finest that didn't have a close connection to any of the people involved in the 'Graduation Incident,' as people are calling it. But you had heard Veronica's part in the fiasco, or at least what the gossip mills think is her part in it, and had planned a summer of South Park marathons and ice cream sundaes, some serious BFF bonding. When you heard about her planned trip with Logan, you were a little off-put, but when Veronica asked you very seriously to check on her friend Mac, you agreed. But when you arrived at Mac's house, you found her very close to a crisis. Deciding that Logan--whatever his faults--had the right idea, you dragged her out of depression for a college tour, anything to keep her mind off her troubles. Write an email to Veronica, assuring her that Mac will be in good hands.

Cindy "Mac" Mackenzie

Mac, after you discovered Cassidy's true colors, you were three days past 'devastated' and well on your way to 'seriously depressed.' Everything you do and see reminds you of him, and your mother with her good intentioned verbal prods for you to maybe move on and start dating again were only making you feel worse. And Veronica's gentle sympathy and Logan's knowing looks made you feel bitter and jealous of what they have, which made you feel guilty. You closed yourself up in your room and refused to eat or budge from your spot on the bed. It's only when Veronica's designated BFF, Wallace Fennel, bursts in with his jovial manner and steely determination to help her that you grudgingly agree to leave Neptune for greener pastures. Write an entry in your blog about Cassidy, your mother, seeing Veronica and Logan together again, and your trepidation about the trip.

GRAPHICS CHALLENGE:Open to all participants!
You may choose one, two, or all three of these challenges. This isn't required, just a fun challenge!

A ) Make a banner of Veronica and Logan, waiting from word of Keith. Pictures from any and all episodes may be used.

B ) Make a manipulation of Wallace and Mac. Take into account Mac's emotional state when choosing pictures.

C ) Make a banner in memorial of Beaver and/or Woody. Be sure to include pictures of the people they left behind.

Veronica suggested that writing this down may help the pain go away, so here it is…

June 3 was the worst day of my life. It all began at graduation. I told Veronica that Cassidy had booked us a room at the Neptune Grand so we can finally… you know. The only advice Veronica had for me was “Close your eyes and think of England.” Sometimes I wonder how she can be so light-hearted about the subject… I wonder if she and Duncan ever did IT. Anyways after graduation, we attended Logan’s post-grad party. Later on Cass drank some “liquid courage” and we headed up to the room. Bad idea. We had some difficulties and then I went to take a shower. When I came back, EVERYTHING including my clothes was gone. I was so confused that I wrapped my self up in the shower curtain because he took the towels too. Finally Veronica came and got me some of Logan’s clothes. Then when I was calmed down, Veronica told me everything… I still can’t believe it. How could Cass do all of that? He blew up the bus, killed the mayor, tried to kill Veronica, almost killed Keith, one of the best dad’s ever. Then again, I still can’t believe Woody! How could molest those kids? So innocent and trusting… plus my parents voted for him! Cass committed suicide the same night he confessed, jumped off the roof of the Neptune Grand. Sheriff Lamb and his deputies had to extract him off the roof of an old Ford.
Also now Veronica and Logan are back together. Now that Duncan’s gone, I guess its sort of inevitable. Those two have more sparks than a box of pyrotechnics. I admit, I’m a bit jealous. They have something me and Cass never had, never will have.
I have to admit, Veronica is amazing in the friend department. She sent Wallace Fennel, her best friend, to convince me to go on a road trip with her, Logan, Wallace, Gia and grudgingly, Dick. He always calls me ‘Ghost World’ and I have no idea why. This is going to be one interesting trip. Hopefully, it will be over quickly...

Hey V,

Just writing you this email to let you know that when you told me what happened to you during Graduation, I planned on us doing some serious BFF bonding over Ice Cream and South Park Marathons. I know how much you love them both and can’t resist. But to my utter disbelief, you resisted my wile and charm. Guess your back together with Logan again. That’s fine. Whatever. It’s not like you guys liked each other much. Or was that just an act? I never did get the two of you.

Anyway, when you asked me to check on your friend Mac, I was a bit surprised. I thought that was something you would do on your own. I mean she is your friend. But, being the amazing BFF that I am, I followed through with your request. When I showed up at Mac’s house, Mac was just laying their staring at the ceiling listening to ‘angry chic music.’ So I did what I always do. I stormed into her room and shut her music off. She glared at me as the tears streamed down her face. But I stayed cheerful and told her to get up and start packing. Who would have thought that Logan, for once in his life, would come up with a good idea. It’s time for Mac to get out of the house and try to take her mind off of what happened with her ex-boyfriend. Next stop, Hearst College.

Gia: Hello
Kendall: (shocked someone picked up finally) oh, hi...who is this?
G: Gia
K: You're a friend of Dick's, right?
G: Yeah, who is this?
K: Kendall Casablancas
G: Oh, Dick's mom? How is h-
K: Stepmother and thats actually why I'm calling you, Tina.
G: Gia
K: Sorry, Gina. I need your help. Dick, well, he's in really bad shape. He's been drunk for the past week and, frankly, he's beginning to smell. So, I need you to get him out of the house for, lets say, a month or two.
G: Um, okay. I guess I can do that.
K: Great! And I need him out by 4 today. I have some people coming over and I need time to clean up, you understand.
G: (silence)
K: Now, for future reference, whats your name again?
G: Gia Goodman
K: (silence) yeah, ok, 4 o'clock then. Oh, one more thing, can you not mention this was my idea. He might not go, Dick and I don't really get along. Thanks. (hangs up)
G: I can't understand why not.

Now, on to the main event, the email to dick.
Hey Dick,
Its road trip time. Get off your drunk ass and pack for a summer of fun. I know we've both been wallowing since graduation night but its summer, we're rich, and we should be partying. I know I need to get out of Neptune and well, you just need to get out of that house. I think it will do both of us some good to spend some time together since we are both going through the same sort of thing. Who else can understand what its like too recover from what happened to both of us. Plus, I make a great wingman and who knows, maybe I might let you get some of this. So, get ready for fun cause I'll be over at 3:30 to pick you up.

KEITH: You've got to change that message, honey, you closed that case weeks ago. Look, I don't have much time, but I wanted to let you know not to worry, and that I have everything under control. I'm so sorry about the trip to New York, and I promise I'll make it up to you. I'm fine, everything's fine, I just have to leave for a couple days. I'll be back soon. I love you.

Dad:

Okay, this is not cool. First you flake on that airplane I wanted when I was six, then the trip to the Magical Land of Oz when I was nine, then my pony from ages twelve to present, and now New York? When you get back from wherever it is you are, you and me? Gonna have words.

You are gonna get back, right?

No, of course you are. You have to. Because if you don't, I'm totally gonna kick your ass. Or get Logan to, whatever.

Oh yeah, I'm with Logan. And we're doing lots and lots of naughty things. I never knew that your handcuffs could be so useful before. He's very creative, you know. Your Sheriff Daddy senses are tingling right now, correct? That's because he's at the store. Buying whipped cream. Yeah, think about that while you're off being mysterious. Here I am, all alone, being ravaged by my bad boy, no-good, on-again/off-again boyfriend...

Seriously, now. You know I'm not upset about the trip, right? And I understand...mostly. Just...call me, whenever. Often. I'll have my cell phone.

But I am with Logan, and Dad, he's okay, really. I'm sure you've heard the news about Aaron by now, and since that happened, he's...I dunno. Mellowed. Or something. Whatever it is, it's good, because he's been absolutely spectacular. No worries.

But no, I'm not going to assure you about the state of my pseudo-virginity. Because you deserve to squirm.

He's taking me up the coast for a few weeks, because he says I need to relax. Which I do, because of you. You shady cloak and dagger Daddy, you. So we'll probably head to LA first, since he needs to take care of a few loose ends with his lawyer. But I'll keep calling you, leaving voice mails.

And you better do the same. I'm not kidding. Two close calls with orphanhood is something that my pretty little head cannot take.

So I love you, and I miss you, and I will continue to make not-so-veiled allusions to kinky sex with that Echolls boy until you call me back.

Just wanted to let you know, I’m taking off with Gia. Think we’re going to party in Vegas, but I wasn’t really listening. By the way, thanks for calling her, mommy, I really needed that extra headache. Jeez, it’s not my fault my brother was some psycho killer guy. It’s, like, why am I being punished, you know?

So, If Madison calls, tell her to call me, pronto. If Logan calls, tell him to come over, I’ll have Gia in a plastic bag by the time he gets here. Tell him we could party like Ozzy, for real this time, just don’t let him bring tension along. He’ll know who I mean, trust me. Oh, and while I’m gone, think about my proposition – just ‘cause you’re married it don’t mean you have to move out. We could still live together, you know I don’t mind.

LOGAN'S LETTER TO TRINA

*Ahem*

Dearest Sister
Hi Trina, I know this really isn't what you need but...
Here's a list of things you have to get done...

Trina,
I'm taking off with Ronnie and some friends on a road trip to get out of here. I have no reason to stay. And aren't I lucky you've come just in time to plan the funeral for Daddy Dearest. So I was thinking, you could, you know, call his friends (if he had any) and whoever else and tell him he's gone for good and that we're orphans now. You'll have to pick out a casket or urn, depending on if you wanna burn the murderer - I mean father - or let him sleep with the maggots. Your choice. If you chose to bury him you'll have to figure out where the famous Aaron Echolls will lay forever. Also, don't forget to talk to the funeral home and have an "exposure" of the body before he's burned/buried (try to make sure Dad's clothed enough so the bullet wounds don't show). Well, that's all I can think of, anything else Mr. Superstar doesn't deserve, we're already giving him a lot. Have fun dealing with the adoring press.

ACTION POST 2

Well, turns out that our cast of characters learn that leaving Neptune is harder than they thought. This post will cover the 'Getting the Fuck Out' stage of the trips.

Veronica Mars

Veronica, after you sent your letter to your father, you convinced Logan to postpone your trip another week to wait for him to call you back. When he finally sent an equally vague email, Logan had to physically restrain you from slashing his bed mattress in your anger. You then rushed off on for the trip, determined to have a good time, but you were waylaid again when Trina showed up, looking for a confrontation with Logan. Write an angry email to Wallace showing your frustration on your inability to leave Neptune smoothly, and inquiring on Mac's well-being.

Logan Echolls

Logan, you patiently endured Veronica's rants about her father, knowing that she was just expelling leftover emotion. You spend some time wondering why you are not affected by this obvious display of the Mars Daddy/Daughter bond, considering that you and Aaron were never exactly elected for any Father and Son Awards. This strikes you as strange, as you seem to be more upset over the fact that you are not upset following Aaron's death. This feeling escalates as the situation with Trina goes even more sour; climaxing when Trina shows up at Veronica's apartment on the eve of your departure. Write a transcript of your argument with Trina.

Dick Casablancas

Dick, after much prodding from Gia and Kendall, you finally drag yourself out of your hole and agree to leave. However, the already-dreaded vacation soon turns sour as you are stopped halfway to LA by a state trooper for speeding. Then, to your continued surprise, the state trooper informs you that A) your vehicle was reported as stolen, and you are a suspect in the murder of Aaron Echolls. At this point you have reached your limit, and your temper explodes, leaving the trooper no choice but to arrest you on charges of grand larceny and evading arrest. Write out a transcript of your call to Kendall, asking her to wire you bail money.

Gia Goodman

Gia, even your never ending optimism fades when faced with this current predicament. Already feeling guilty about forgetting that you weren't supposed to take your father's car on account of the Sherriff's department's ongoing investigation, you are even more downhearted as you watch Dick get arrested. Feeling responsible for the entire thing, you catch a cab to the police station where Dick is being held, a small podunk town in-between Neptune and Los Angeles. You use what's left of your debit account to bail Dick out, and you call the only pro bono lawyer you know of, Cliff McCormick. Write a transcript of your call to Cliff.

Wallace Fennel

Wallace, you are having your own troubles with Mac. You've made it to UCLA, the first college on your tour, but Mac is barely participating. You finally become frustrated with her lack of response and leave her to her own devices at the hotel, going out for some serious basketball therapy. You regret this action later back at the hotel when you return to find Mac missing and an email from Veronica waiting in your inbox. Write a reply to Veronica, trying to cover up the fact that you have no idea where Mac is.

Cindy "Mac" Mackenzie

Mac, Wallace is a sweet guy but Cassidy was sweet too, and every little thing that he does to make you feel better only manages to remind you of Beaver. Finally you retreat into monosyllable-land, hoping to dissuade him, and finally you achieve victory when he becomes irritated and storms out. Free at last, you log on to your computer only to find a suspicous yet intriguing email from a source named only 'The Puppetmaster.' He asks you to meet him at a club in downtown Los Angeles for information on "Cassidy's last moments," and unable to resist, you go, even though it stinks of a trap or worse, a reporter. Write a reply email to "The Puppetmaster," agreeing to meet.

Just wanted to let you know that Mac and I stopped at some cheap Motel to rest for the night before we continue on our trip. We finally mad it out here to UCLA. Sounds like things aren’t going so well for you. I can’t believe your dad would do this to you. It must be something really important to just keep blowing you off like that. Oops, sorry not helping. Anyway, UCLA has an awesome basketball court, and I just had to test it out. It was awesome. I got to get a great game in with some guys from the team. Playing professional ball, now that’s what I’m talking about. I can’t wait till I get to Hearst so I can get me on the team. Oh right, you want to know how Mac is. Well, she’s uh, missing, still really upset. I asked her to come watch me shoot some hoops, but she wasn’t feeling up to it. I know what your thinking, that I shouldn’t have abandoned her like that, but she was really getting on my nerves, just needed some time alone. Nowi’mreallyworriedbecauseican’tfindher. It will take some time. But I think were all going to be just fine. We’ll V, I’ve got to go find Mac go and get some sleep now. Big plans for the morning.

Hello Mac,
How is it going? Well, I mean you did miss one of the weirdest parts of Grad night. Since everything happened all at once, I thought it would be best to inform you of Cassidy’s last moments. You deserve to know at least that much. Why don’t you meet me at a club in downtown Las Angeles, it’s called the Inferno. I’ll be there tomorrow at 6 in the afternoon. I’m sure you’ll realize that this is your chance to find out what really happened, because who knows what your friends really held back from you.
