Spread your wings and let your heart take flight . . .It began with a mutant child. He was like any other child, except for one thing: the tiny bumps on his shoulder blades. X-rays showed that the bumps were actually developing wings. They called him Angelo. Scientists took him away and, after many years of research, they were able to isolate the mutated gene, perfect it, and create a serum. It was called Zephyr. Its purpose: to give humans wings.
At first, Zephyr products were affordable by only the rich and powerful. But as more of the serum, both in quantity and in variety, was produced, it became more and more available to the public. A fad quickly sprung up as people flocked to grow wings. Gradually, society moved to greater heights to compensate for flying. Environmental issues plummeted. It became known as the Flight. A division was drawn between those with and without wings. The winged humans became the Avians.
Then came that fateful day. Perhaps it was another genetic mutation, or maybe it was a stray bacterium or virus. But what was certain was that the base serum was contaminated. And they unwittingly used that tainted serum in the Zephyr products. The result was catastrophic. One after another Avians fell ill, exhibiting extreme and irrational behaviour before plummeting to their deaths as their wings grew immobile and heavy with a rock-like crust. Frantic to preserve their research while quarantining the contagious disease, the scientists salvaged and preserved Angelo's remains and tossed them to the earthbound world below. The years of the disease, which people named "Gargoyle", was called the Clipping.
Eventually the Avians were wiped out, with only a handful of survivors. They abandoned their lofty homes and lived among the humans. The flying cities crumbled from neglect and fell, sometimes destroying earthly towns. But otherwise, Gargoyle had abated and gone dormant. Decades passed, and the Flight became almost a dream. But the past never truly stops haunting.
Eighty years have passed since the Clipping and the Avians have become but a thing of the past, almost myth. So people are shocked when a youth suddenly sprouts massive white wings to save a child from a burning building. The young man vanished shortly after, but an international search identifies fourteen others who, though not fully developed, possessed pseudo-wing appendages protruding from their shoulder blades . . . and they were growing. Labeling it as "Zephyr Syndrome", a "genetic disorder", the fourteen are taken away to a research facility called S-4061. Six months of painful experimentation later, they mysteriously disappeared.
The fourteen wake up in a forest with three things: a wing-shaped tattoo, a sense of close fellowship and a unique dream. Another discovery is that each will always know where the others are. The message is clear: they must gain their wings, they each have a role to play, and they must trust each other . . . and themselves.
Their individual dreams have told them what they must do. With the government and scientists at their heels, the twelve budding Avians flee for their lives as the Avelon Vision begins to unfurl . . .
Required Characters
14 Avians (7 per gender, 2 per Zephyr)
IMPORTANT: Though you can tell me which genetic strand of wings (henceforth known as a Zephyr) you want, I will be the one playing Fate and ultimately deciding what strand you get. Now, rest assured, I will be giving you guys the factors that play into the Zephyr selection, so you won't be sweating yourselves to death when you put up your profiles and await my Lavi seal of approval.
