EVERYTHING BURNS

Rising 2010

(Posted Image)

Everything Burns are a modern emotional melodic metal band who I mistakenly pigeonholed as being your average metalcore shite judging from the band name and the promo sheet. However there is more to this band than your average emo screamo mob. Sure they are swimming in similar waters to the millions of angst ridden screamos out there but there is just a little more substance to this band thankfully.

The band's music is built around emotional melodic vocals which thankfully are only very rarely accompanied by screams. The vocals whilst not very manly, are perfectly acceptable in my book and turn in some haunting melodies on occasion. The production is heavy enough and features guitar melodies which would please fans of bands like Funeral for a Friend and bands of that ilk. The song Home even features a really clean melodic solo which shows off the guitarist's musical capabilities very well indeed.

The only problem with Everything Burns that will stop them currying favour amongst metal heads is that fact they are young and look emo through and through. I look at it this way - listening to this album may harm one's metal credibility a fair deal - but when a song is good it's good and Everything Burns have hummable tunes aplenty. The lyrics tend to get a bit too emo and sickly for me from what I can pick but I can ignore lyrics very easily when it comes to music.

This band is very easy on the ear and just makes listenable modern emo metal music that the kids simply lap all day and night and whilst it feels a bit odd giving kiddies music the time of day whilst being an old bastard, it's hard to put these guys down totally. They sound like they are playing from their hearts and know a good melody when it hits them round their emo cutted heads. In the end this style of modern music is not what I'm into and nor is it aimed at the likes of me and the band will get a whole heap of abuse for being just what they are which is an emocore band, but I won't be one of the abusers on this occasion.
