The Vivians - A Human Angle
Hmm, all the way from, oh wait, they're from the same place as me. Um, Edinburghs latest entrants in a distressingly short list of rock contenders are the dreadfully named Vivians. Presumably they're Young Ones fans. Or just have dreadful taste in names. Anyway, the "biz" seems to be puffing them up as some kind of new punk contenders, which I just don't get. The new Franz Ferdinand, possibly.
Either way, the lead track leaps at you with great abandon, urgent and thrusting, like a thirteen year old trying to get his first lay. It lasts about as long and is just as memorable, but for those 3 minutes, it's sweaty, smelly and briefly interesting. The flip side, ‘Divided We Stand’ has a little more depth, and with Franz having jumped the shark in record time, there will be people out there who've been waiting for this.
