Caamora - Walk On Water



I was already smitten by the "Closer" EP, which came out with a Clive Nolan and Agnieszka Swita byline. But now they've settled on a name for their project, and it was with some anticipation that I approached this EP.

It's a precursor to a concept album, featuring two songs written specially written for this release and two songs from the forthcoming 'She' project. For those who don't know, Clive Nolan is a man with a past encompassing a whole battalion of prog stalwarts including Arena, Pendragon, Neo and others, but this is something a little bit different. Sure, people are going to claim that they're just after the Magenta / Mostly Autumn market, but there is a depth and power at play here, which is certainly lacking in Mostly Autumn.

Put that down to some great songs, especially the title track and 'Shadows', a fabulous singer in the shape of Agnieszka Swita, and some quality guest players like Mark Westwood, John Jowitt and Scott Higham putting in good displays. There are shared elements with bands like Pendragon and Arena, but that is only to be expected. The music is consistently melodic and engaging, the tunes sticking in your mind, well after the CD is back in the case.

As an appetiser for the album, it does the job, and is a worthy package in its own right.
