Live at The Glasgow Garage 05/01/06

The Almighty reunion was supposed to be a temporary thing to celebrate the return to health of bass player Floyd London (and a best of CD). But after a delirious set of club shows they’ve decided to stick around for a wee while longer.

This DVD was filmed in front of a packed Glasgow Garage last January, where the crowd (including yours truly) went berserk as the band clattered though a set full of classics and a couple of their rubbishy grunge tunes. The DVD itself is billed as “Official Bootleg” for two reasons. The first is the lo-fi, hand held filming approach. The second being that it’s not a ‘real’ release.

The reasons for this are quite straightforward. The whole thing is being done as a fundraiser for Leukaemia Research. So it was shot on a shoestring and the straightforward, no frills approach reflects that. What you’re getting are seventeen live tracks, no extras, straight down the line rock and roll. Which means that the great Almighty tracks are great, the average ones less so. You’ll replay the likes of ‘Over The Edge’, ‘Full Force Lovin’ Machine’ and ‘Wild And Wonderful’, you’ll skip past ‘Wrench’ and ‘Unreal Thing’.

As a souvenir of the show, it works well, but don’t come looking for a great concert DVD. That’s not why it’s here. You’ll also pay more than you would for a regular live DVD, but you’re doing it for a good cause, so suck it up and hand over the cash. You can buy it via the Almighty website at http://www.thealmighty.co.uk/
