A little late, but I just realized that today is September 11, which is the... 7 year anniversery, if I did the math right, of the terrorist attacks in NYC and on the pentagon. I'm pretty sure everyone already knows what happened... planes were hijaked and flown into the pentagon, which is a secret gov building, and then two others into the both the world trade center buidings. Well, because the pentagon was a gov center, there wasn't much press attention. But the trade center got alot... there was footage on the news all day of the second plane going in and then eventually both buildings falling down. It was really hard to watch, I'm sure even for non-Americans, because before the buildings went down alot of people jumped... there were people all around covered in debris and blood.

Anyways, it was a really sad day so I just thought everyone could remember it, even those not from America, because... well it really changed the way the world is today.

Yes, thank you for mentioning this....I feel the same way too.
My brother is in Iraq right now, and this is his second time fighting there.

Putting politics aside, this is a somber day for America.....

thats a terrible thing to say. i'm not talking about the war, i'm talking about the deaths of 3,000+ people in my country.

show some friggin resepct. it doesn't always have to be "those terrible americans." we did nothing to provoke this attack and its disgusting that your opinion of the american government overshadows this terrible event.

Personally, I think it's changed America's attitude, more than the world's.

I feel that since 9/11, its like, America is the only place on earth that's suffered terrorist attacks. Yeah this is done by media sensationalism and Yeah, the bombers did it on an awesome scale, but I suppose they played America's own game of "Shock 'n Awe". (Hiroshima....?)

I grew up in a military family. My dad was in the army and my mother was Civilian worker for the the troops. I've grown up knowing about the IRA (Irish Republican Army - more accurately Provisional Irish Republican Army) and the risk they posed to Ireland and our country - even my family. OK they did different things to the 9/11 bombers, but they too did atrocious things. I don't think its even been 5 years for the ceasefire...

I don't think lips_blood_red has said anything bad.
Its very, very sad about the people who lost their lives in such an event. But it happens all over the world in different ways. I really do think the US government knew about an attack, but they didn't know where or when.

But we really shouldn't forget those people who died. As with any acts of mass murder, they should be remembered appropriately.

This.

It is indeed a horrible event though and probably won't be forgotten for many years.

and this is not a political thread. not about the war or about terrorists or theories or anythning else...

this is about a tragedy and massive death. so as i said, respect that and shut up about politics and how much america sucks for one minute of your life.

The mere memory of it makes me feel anguished because I saw it all happening on tv. I had been working in the morning and I was in the kitchen listening to the radio and there was a first interruption then a second and then the program stopped and they started reporting on it non-stop so I switched the tv on and saw the whole thing happening before my eyes and I was so horrified I felt like my body and my couch were one and the same thing and then my daughter came home from school and I didn't know how to break the news to her because it was like a horror movie only it was real and there was nothing we could do except watch, and that is exactly what those guys wanted and knew would happen. All terrorist attacks are equally revolting (we had several in Paris in the 80's and in the 90's) but this one was planned so that the whole planet could see it and measure the extent of their power and hate of the West.
September 11th is a day no one can forget if they were old enough at the time, because it was the most perverse of all mass murder, using America's symbols and medias to shout at them and us all "WE HATE YOU!".
I can remember returning to work the next day and I couldn't help the tears in my eyes because it felt as if the Nazis were back, wearing different uniforms but aiming at the same goal : getting rid of all those THEY had decided had no right to live. I felt like the whole nightmare could start again in another form.
All human beings have an equal right to live and I make no difference between the victims, all lives have equal value to me and no one should use such methods whatever the cause they defend because there can be no excuse to attacking innocent people who are just being used to make it prevail over the "enemy".
So let all those innocent people rest in peace, as well as all others throughout the world and let's hope humanity will someday get sick and tired of all this, but I have little hope I'll live long enough to see it happen...

As with everything like this, such a topic it will start debate.

Fair enough, you feel offended.
But that opinion the the people who were victims of 9/11 died in vain is held by ALOT of people. Not just non-Americans, but alot of Americans too.

like you're entitled to your opinion, so is lip_blood_red. Its not like she said they deserved to die, so just chill.
I never said you said that "terrorist attacks only happen in America" - I was just stating how I see things. If your that much of a patriot, don't start something that will trigger something to make people feel the need to voice their opinions - opinions that you won't like.

Everybody just relax.

This is what I feared would happen.
People would say their own opinion, other people would get offended, and then the debating starts...

This forum is not the place to discuss the why's, what's, and all the repercussions that followed.
Sure, honour the dead if you will.
But keep it at that.

Agreed.

I WANT to let this thread stay because its only fair.
We have had threads in memory of other topics that can equally be considered "controversial", and I understand that since we all live in other countries, with other cultures and ideals, there WILL be conflicting opinions based on the topic of 9/11, but this thread was intended to be a memorial to innocent people who lost their lives in a tragic event.

This isn't about how anyone feels about the US government and politics or government and politics of anywhere else in the world. This isn't about debate on how people feel about American citizens or society. This is just remembering one more event that has effected members within our own forums. We have had threads about the memory of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we have had threads about the memory of kids who have been killed for being "different", so everyone needs to at least respect the feelings of people within these forums who are also effected by 9/11.

I'm not saying you guys AREN'T respecting it, I'm saying there needs to be less debate and opinionated responses to this. If we cannot agree to at least respect the members of this forum who feel a personal impact towards the event, then I will create a rule against all topics concerning memorials towards world events, tragedies, and even memorials to other people whom members feel made an impact in their life or within their society. I think we all understand that America is not the only country that has had terrorist attacks brought upon, but 9/11 was a particular day that hurt a lot of people, and some people like to take a moment to remember it. If you want us to remember a different event you feel equally impacted by go ahead and make a thread about it. Other members have done it in the past, so it makes this thread no different.

If anymore debate or opinionated responses are brought upon in threads like these I will close them all down and make a ruling against any kind of memorial thread.

ManaVampire and Izumi, I totally agree with what you said.

Such threads should have nothing to do with our political opinions, politics have no place on a site dedicated to Mana. If anybody wants to debate about international relations, the assumed rights and wrongs of this or that country or administration, there are plenty of other sites for that.

I am not thinking of any of you in terms of nationality, I have no ready-made idea about anybody, I just get on with some people better than with others, just like anybody I guess. Nobody should think they are engaged in any kind of national competition, we are just sharing our common interest for Mana, having a lot a fun thanks to some of you creative people and trying to talk about this or that on the side because it's interesting and helps us know each other better.

I do hope such threads can stay and more be created in mutual respect.
