oh man difficult difficult. I have sooo many different songs I love to death, especially from the Bara no Seidou era, my favorite generally depends on my mood but I must say, I think one of my top favorites has to be Garnet. ^^;
As for PV, probably Au Revoir just because I think Mana is way too adorable in it. X3 (although, when isn't he?)

Hmmm....
For me, it's probably a tie between Gardenia, Garnet, Syunikiss, Baroque, and Gekka No Yasokyouku.
...Wow, that's a bigger list than just "favorite".
But yeah. Why do I like them?
Gardenia--Definitely the musical complexity. Certainly not the best song ever. But damn, they do know how to write music. The bass part fits in perfectly to the melody, destroying the typically-sought-after boring straight 8th notes bass part. It breaks out of that, and adding synthesizer and a nice guitar part, It's perfect. But then they also add in that awesome drum part. Orgasm.
Garnet--Again, Musical Complexity. Again, not the best song ever. But definitely up there on my list. The bass part is driving and has a nice melody to match with the melody of the vocals in the song, as those are more or less the only two front-melody holding parts in a lot of Malice Mizer songs. As opposed to normal songs in which the bass is suppressed or dominated by the rest of the song's parts, the bass really seems to break free in it.
Syunikiss--Is there anything else to say? Brilliant composition, brilliant execution, brilliant lyrics, brilliant everything.
Baroque--Wow. Where to start...
Baroque is probably one of my favorite songs. The drum part is crazy. Just wow. That requires a lot of skill.
One of my friends, my drummeritizing friend, spent about 2 hours one day listening to that song with the bass boost up and all, trying to figure out the drum part. He eventually did. But even though he figured it out...he couldn't play it. It's one of those drum parts where you're like "Oh, It can't be too hard. *Goes to play it* SHIT!".
The guitars are just awesome. End of sentence there. Or here. Or there again.
The vocals are what I love most about Tetsu--Screechy, high, whiny vocals--but with a 'soul', so to speak. Now, I don't mean soul like "He got some soul!". I mean his voice is just...eh, I guess you'd have to be as obsessed with music as I to understand it. It's like...putting it into bass terminology--Gackt's and Klaha's voices are like a wooden bass--Warm, smooth, creamy kind of sound. Tetsu's is like a graphite composite bass--Rough, clear, and kind of like a slap bass. Really a difference, and yet I love both of them very much for their disctinctive sound and style.
The bass part...Similar in form to Brise, only more direct, in-your-face kind of fast kind of stuff. Very different, but verysimilar. Like Brise bass+Gardenia bass.
Gekka No Yasokyouku--Nothing really in this song but drums, synth, and bass. I'm not much for the vocals in this song--I don't think that Gackt does very good falsetto most of the time.
The bass line is awesome. And the bass too.
Did you know that Yu~ki uses a professional stand-up fretless in that song?
And if you did....did you know it was run through an effects pedal or 57389402?
And if you did....did you know that those basses can cost up to $400,000 US?

wow, Sic, you seriousely put a TON of thought into the composition of each song. Recently, I've been doing the same and you gave me a bit of an inspiration to write about Kagami no Butou Genwaku no Yoru.
Every morning when I drive to school, I ALWAYS either put in a Malice Mizer or Moi dix Mois CD. As I've mentioned before, my favorite Album is the Bara no Seidou album, just because thats my style of music. I enjoy listening to a mix of classical and rock together, which ultimately is Mana's for of expressing himself through music. Anyway, I find myself listening to Kagami more and more often every day, the song just speaks to me I guess you would say. Not only that, being a musician since I was young (choir person here lol) I have a tendency to sit there and pick apart music, especially the vocals when I REALLY like a song.
The musiciality of it is as expected, extremely difficult and complex. The thing that really gets to me though is how Klaha can just hit those notes on the upbeat PERFECT every time. I have being singing what feels like forever and over time since I have been singing I've learned a lot about the voice, and what Klaha can do really is no easy talent. I truely wonder how many times Mana had to work with him on those small details that really matter or if he had been practicing that beforehand.

I love Iluminati best. And I like Au Revour really much too. It keeps playing in my head, over and over. I shouldn't have listened to it so many times...But how can I not?

It's impossible for me to choose a favourite song, I love them all too much! Videos however are a different matter..... Beast of Blood~ Was just beautiful. Gekka no Yasoukyoku~ Reminded me of a puppet play I saw when I was very small, it brings back very fond memories. Le Ciel~ Is indecribably touching, I can't help but cry everytime I see it. Illuminati~ I know I really shouldn't like that PV but I'm afraid I do.
