LamentfulMiss - November 19, 2010 09:31 PM (GMT)
So, I'm sure if you read Mana's blog, you already know this, but Moi Dix Mois just posted a really awesome video on Youtube :)

D+Sect promo

What do you guys think of it? I was super excited! <33

Velvet~Pain - November 21, 2010 03:17 PM (GMT)
The video was great, it made me look forward to the record even more^^

Pythos - November 22, 2010 04:12 AM (GMT)
That video had subliminal messages in it. It said
"preorder, Preorder NOW!!!"

LOL, I find myself scrabbling for the scratch so that I could satisfy the maestro's wish.

Izumi - November 22, 2010 11:16 AM (GMT)
someone needs to give that boy drum lessons.....!!

Pythos - November 23, 2010 03:31 PM (GMT)
Hey Izumi, since you are such an expert perhaps you should do that. LOL

Izumi - November 24, 2010 10:45 PM (GMT)
I would if I could actually play drums however, you don't need to be a genius to recognize that the drum tracks he composes sound pretty same-y....!!

LamentfulMiss - November 25, 2010 12:09 AM (GMT)
XD LOL, let's go tell this to Hayato :D

Hayato isn't the problem... He's way better than Tohru... However, Mana constructs some beautiful guitar riffs, its just a shame he loses that with his drum tracks...

I've often thought that... On La Dix Croix in particular. But of course, everthing else is really well thought out and beautifully arranged :)

Drums are probably my least favorite aspect of MdM and took some getting used to for me. However, they are, at least, unique compared to other bands and that's worth a lot in music these days if you ask me.

LamentfulMiss - November 26, 2010 07:49 AM (GMT)
Didn't Mana use a drum machine for Dix Infernal? And yeah, despite the face that Mana use to actually PLAY drums, he's not that great at composing drum tracks :P

Completely agree. :D

LamentfulMiss: Yep, he did use a drummachine. :P

It is unfortunate that a good heaping deal of MdM's drumming is a classic example of "thrash 101" hehe. It's the same bass, hi-hat and snare transition in repetition, followed by a quick fill.

I thought a good deal of the drumming improved on Dixanadu for sure. The pieces for Lamentful Miss, Angelica and Metaphysical are much better--the fills are tighter, and the use of double bass pedal is much more cleanly executed.

The drum track for this preview seems almost too loud, there are other beat segments that could have carried the melody instead of deafen it.

Pythos - November 27, 2010 06:10 PM (GMT)
Actually I have to say it is unfortunate that it seems people that like him are kinda throwing out one of his main things about anti status quo.

You are knocking his use of a crazy drum sequence, saying that it is not conventional, or "thrash 101".

What has he said about "destroy" or Breaking from convention.

What if the drums "not working" with his music is exactly what he wants?

Would it be Mana's music if the crazy drum was not in there?

LOL.

Frankly beside some drum sequences, I rather like the incongruity of the drums. They are certainly high energy, and what is wrong with that in this world that wants to drain us of our energy?

Enjoy the music as a whole, don't be like those on scape that constantly knock Mana and his music :)

I wasn't knocking his drumming style, for christ's sake!
I, a drummer myself, was using an example of a style of drumming that many people can identify with--like thrash.

I am soooo sorry if calling his drumming "thrash 101" insults you, hahaha. Just saying that the most common drumming heard in MdM is basic thrash. Mana also enjoys and seeks inspiration from Slayer, a THRASH band.

Besides, musicians like to be challenged by their fan's thinking about the composition of their pieces--so get off your high horse.

BACK ON TOPIC:

I found myself entranced by the use of female chorus. I think it adds another dimension to the piece.

Pythos - November 28, 2010 02:01 AM (GMT)
Whoa whoa whoa. Hold the horses. High ones as well.

I was simply making a statement, much like others here were.

We are all friends. I was not attacking, nor was I insulted, at a critique of another human being.

I was just stating that his drumming style is most like the way it is due to his philosophy.

I was also just a little concerned with how this thread could easily turn into ones that are like the ones on Scape.

LamentfulMiss - November 28, 2010 05:53 AM (GMT)
Thanks for cutting the argument short Phythos <33

Also, what's Scape?

porcelainmaiden - November 28, 2010 07:02 AM (GMT)
Scape is another Malice Mizer/related member site

I formally apologize for getting heated under the collar.
I also quite like the style of drumming for MdM as well, I also like thrash so there lies my reasoning.

We are one big Dix family after all!

Glad that discussion ended peacefully, else I'd have started being the evil mod. :P
One of you read way too much out of what had been written, making illogical conclusions out of it.

Anyhoo mod out and back on topic:

porcelainmaiden: I agree with you in regards to the female chorus, does add another dimension to it.
Many others have used them successfully, and thus far it sounds good. ^^

LamentfulMiss - November 28, 2010 08:18 PM (GMT)
holymuffins, THERE'S ANOTHER ONE *diesofjoy* :D

IT'S RIGHT HERE!!!
