As familiar as the outside always looked, equally strange was the inside. Not the literal inside, of course, that was also as familiar as could be, but the proverbial inside, the soul of the place, its life, its population. He frowned as he made touchdown on the soft grass of the perfectly well kept lawn. When he first arrived to the place, he remembered, it was by taxi, not by limo, in order to avoid giving his family unnecessary notice in the media relating them and the school of mutants. Every time thereafter, he would just fly in, sometimes with luggage, sometimes without.
This time, it was an elegant enough arrival, his entire luggage being the jeans and dark blue turtleneck he wore, and a small backpack slung over one shoulder. When he left, he had asked for his possessions to stay. He left in order to figure out whether he wanted to remain at the school, but for thinking he didn't need an entire set of baggage as well. No, this way, he made an implicit promise to return under any circumstance, even if it were just to be in order to pick his stuff up and notify the good people who took him in that he was finally leaving.
Five years at the Institute he had spent, yet for all that time, there was only one person who bound him to the place -- Jean Grey. He didn't think she was hurt when he left, at any of the various points in time he did so. He figured that she sort of dealt with the fact that he was not one to stay somewhere for very long, and for the longest time he had been under the impression that she was just seeing him as another student to raise and help understand his powers, but not to befriend.
Yet, she had befriended him. The only person who was persistent enough to ignore and, eventually, crack his iron shell of egotism, Jean had helped him sort out quite a few problems in his life. Now, he was back, and for the first time in his life wondered if she even thought about him in his absences, or was it really merely a student/teacher relationship, no friendship involved.
With sure, confident strides, the 19 year old entered the mansion, raising his hand and sending a jolt of green light to open the doors for him. They did, and he entered the foyer, looking around. There were bound to be many more new students than when he'd originally left, after the canine attacks.
~Well... here goes...~ he thought idly as he levitated to the vertical middle of the room, looking around. He wondered if he'd meet anyone familiar or anyone new on his way to his room, but first things first. There was a little bit of time to float dramatically in the middle of the room and turn around, as if to survey it for the first time, though really he was looking for changes, or stains and scratches from the many hounds that were sent flying to the walls by him.
~I wonder how Jean's kid is doing...~
Summary: Julian returns from his hiatus, thinking about his final decision and about Jean Grey, and whether or not his absences had any impact on her. Tag: Pretty much open
