Current Occupation: Teacher, Doctor ,(formerly Model), Guidance Counsellor
INSTITUTE INFORMATIONSchool Attending: Teacher/Guidance Counselor at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
Advisees: Now that Jean has given birth and has a gorgeous baby boy to care for 24/7, and due to the fact she is one of the school's Guidance Counsellors as well as being a teacher, to ease her workload, Jean no longer has personal Advisees, for the moment at least.
Squad Group: ChaotiX, Senior X-Men
Room Number: TFA-07
Classes Taught: Economics; Biology & Biology Lab; Sociology; & she also organizes the curriculum and teaches the Kindergarten to 5th graders.
Curriculum: N/A
Non-Curriculum: Jean was a talented, popular teenage model, and is often still recognized.
Jean has worked with Cyclops, and, now, Logan, to the point that she is now an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. She has also found some interesting ways to incorporate the use of her telekinetic powers in combat.
Education: Bachelors, Masters and PhD from NYSU (Genetic research)
Resources: Jean survives on her teachers income from Xaviers institute, supplemented by her husband Scotts salary and resides at Xaviers mansion. She will occasionally ask for financial aid from her parents if situations are dire. Though this rarely happens.
X-GENE MUTATIONTelekinesis: Jean can lift and/or exert up to 10 tons of force by will power alone, deploying said force with phenomenal accuracy capable of affecting objects on a molecular scale. She exhibits extremely fine control of said force capable of affecting up to 10 targets simultaneously. She is able to utilize this force in a myriad of ways including but not limited to: force bolts, force fields, & self-levitation (simulating flight).
Telepathy: Jean can communicate directly mind-to-mind over an area of 10 miles (radius). She can read minds, project her thoughts into the minds of others, perform mental probes, project mental illusions, as well as project raw psionic bolts which have no physical effect but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness. Along with her telepathy Jean also possesses an innate psychic shielding. It remains to be seen what other subject may develop or how strong she may become.
Currently Jean Grey is operating at levels far above what she had previously exhibited, including the ability to make herself invisible to psi probes and mutant detection. Her telekinesis appears to have increased tenfold. It is unknown if this is a permanent change, or what the cause of the change is.
[NB: Jean Grey is exhibiting her Phoenix powers in Mana4X2 but these are a natural leap in her evolution rather than the Phoenix Force.]Control: High, but still has not reached her full potential.
Weaknesses: If anything, Jean cares too strongly for those she loves. It can cause her to loose focus in a combat situation if someone she cares about is in danger. She will always put herself in harm’s way before a loved one, as loosing a loved one counts amongst her biggest fears.
Jean is also prone to physical injury and illness much like any regular human being though she is well trained in combat styles/strategies thanks to her husband and friend Wolverine, meaning she is better able to defend herself should her telepathy and/or telekinesis be taken out of action.
PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILEMarital Status: Married
Personality: Jean is a caring, sweet young woman who would do anything to make sure her ‘family’ is safe. She strongly believes that any use of her telepathy to search someone’s mind against their will is very wrong, and will not do it unless there is no other choice. This conviction has strengthened, especially after the birth of her baby, because she has had the glimpse of what love a mother has for a child.
Jean is a firm believer and supporter of Xavier's ultimate goal of having humans and mutants living together in peace, and hopes one day to see it eventuate. Jean enjoys a good laugh though is rarely one to offer the joke, being a rather quiet personality most of the time. This is not to say she doesn’t make herself heard when she has something to say, but rather she isn’t one to speak just for the sake of speaking. She loves working with children and guiding the next generation of mutants to their full potential. This was a large factor in her choice to join the guidance counselling service at XSFGY.
One of Jean’s other great passions is science, she studied at NYSU and received her PHD in genetics and she has continued her studies in this area as a hobby when she isn’t busy with her family or teaching duties.
Demeanour: Approachable
Nature: Caring
Current Affiliation: X-Men, Faculty
Previous Affiliation: N/A
HISTORYJean Grey is the younger daughter of Professor John Grey of the History Department of Bard College in Annandale-on Hudson, New York, and his wife Elaine. When Jean was ten years old, she was playing with her best friend Annie Richardson when an automobile hit Annie. The emotion that Jean felt as she held her dying friend awakened her own latent telepathic powers, and she thus experienced Annie's own emotions as she died. This traumatic occurrence left Jean in a withdrawn and deeply depressed state. Moreover, Jean discovered that she could not control her newly awakened telepathic abilities, and had to isolate herself from other people to keep hold of her sanity.
Finally, when Jean was eleven, a psychiatrist recommended to her parents that they consult a colleague of his, Professor Charles Xavier, who was secretly a mutant with telepathic abilities. Xavier explained to Jean, but not to her parents, that she was a mutant, and he treated her for several years. During this time he erected psychic shields in Jean's mind so that she would not be able to use her telepathic abilities until she had achieved the maturity necessary for dealing with them. Simultaneously, he taught her how to levitate and manipulate objects through psionic force. When Xavier judged that Jean had reached a certain level of mastery of her telekinetic power, he recommended to her parents that they enrol her in his newly established School for Gifted Youngsters.
Unknown to Professor and Mrs. Grey, this school served as a cover for the X-Men, a team of young superhuman mutants being trained by Xavier to combat the threats posed by other mutants who used their powers against humanity. On entering the school, Jean Grey became the fifth member to join the X-Men and took the code name of Marvel Girl.
The original five X-Men remained together for several years. Shortly after she joined the team, Jean noticed one Scott Summers, or ‘Cyclops. ’ They danced around each other for a while before Scott finally gained the courage to confess his feelings for Jean and before long the two were going out, developing a deep bond of affection and love between them. They only dated for a short time in the scheme of things and were married late in 2003.
As time passed and Jean matured in the use of her mutant abilities, Xavier realized that he could release the psychic barriers within Jean's mind, which had prevented her from using her telepathic abilities. Since then she has maturity in the use of her abilities and has finely honed both her telekinetic skills and her telekinetic powers.
Recently, Jean has begun to show signs of developing further within her powers, being dubbed Phoenix due to the fiery bird she has often called forth to glow behind her.
On February 18th, 2004, Jean was on a trip to the movies with her husband, Scott, and best friend, Ororo, when she witnessed the sudden appearance of an unknown mutant before Scott’s car; shortly after the movie had ended. Two members of Magneto’s Brotherhood, Sabretooth and Toad, attacked the young woman. As Jean watched this confrontation she began to sense the uniqueness of this particular mutant, and agreed wholeheartedly when Scott informed the two dumbfounded woman that the Professor had to be told about her immediately.
As a teacher and doctor at the school, her life is a busy one, along with her husband and friends. Missions, classes, training, all of the above a part of her usual routine. She mourned deeply the loss of Angel, and took some time to regain some semblance of normalcy within the school after the recent infiltration of a mutant known as Nemesis. Held prisoner in the mansion cells, Nemesis somehow used Jean’s telempathic link to Mana to cause both the two women to start acting totally out of character, Jean almost losing her husband in the process, she was so mean to him.
By combining their powers, Gambit and Rogue were able to break the hold Nemesis had on Mana through Jean, therefore snapping both women back to reality. Almost straight away, Jean contacted a distraught Scott aboard one of the Blackbirds, who had left the mansion in a highly emotional state. Managing to convince him to return, the couple were soon able to sort the problem out, Jean still coming to terms with the fact there was, and would still be, mutants out there powerful enough to break through the mental blocks she had been taught, and had grown so adept at, putting up. Not to mention the
almost telling Mana to severe the link the two shared.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, but soon, Nemesis’ power evolved to the point where he could turn himself into pure electricity, therefore able to get loose from his confinement by flowing into the nearest electrical port. It was during his infiltration of the mansion that Jean, along with Storm, were trapped in the Danger Room; a Danger Room now under Nemesis’ control. Along with the fighting to stay alive, something that soon ceased when the infiltrator turned his attention elsewhere, there was the worry for the students, for Scott, and for everyone else currently in the mansion.
Thankfully, this infiltration ended rather peacefully, aside from the injuries Nemesis had already incurred to some of the students, but, it wasn’t long after that when almost the entire school went on a privately invited field trip to a new museum opening up on the outskirts of New York.
They weren’t the only ones invited, and soon, the Brotherhood and the X-Men, faculty and students, were working side by side, in the different exhibits they were confined to, fighting for their lives against a museum that’d just locked down and come alive. Jean found herself locked in the Atrium, a metal covering having closed over the open roof, with Scott, Storm, Wolverine, & Psylocke. Soon, it became evident that Jean was one of the targets.
Shortly after being dumped in what was later to be realized was a mutant holding facility within a ship very much similar to the one seen in the movie called Alien Vs Predator; a ship that soon lifted off, tearing from its moorings on top of the museum; Jean was brought before the man behind it all, Christian LeMasia, where she was informed the thought-to-be-dead Tobias, aka Volcano, was still alive, and injected with some sort of biomechanical controlling device within her mind. Later on, when the ship was sabotaged and after it impacted the ground, that device was activated, and Jean was given three commands that saw her severely hurt some of those she cared for deeply, intent on killing them all… but the device was shorted out by a massive EMP from Polaris, freeing Jean, and rendering that same device useless in the minds of the only other two mutants that’d so far been injected, Bane and Volcano, before it had even been activated.
All was relatively quiet for a while, except for the attack from another student when Jean was simply trying to stop him from making a stupid mistake. Fortunately, Joshua Bennet, AKA Tinker, realized what he’d done was wrong and soon apologized for it. Of course, even though it was quiet on the attack front, the big news that Scott and her were going to be parents was most definitely something to celebrate. Unfortunately, while she was pregnant, and not too far off from having the baby, Christian and Magenta LeMasia showed themselves again, this time in the form of sending humanoid sentinels to each and every faction within New York City, as well as the individual mutants they had come to learn about.
Thanks to Scott, Jean managed to get to one of the escape tunnels, soon among those that managed to elude being captured. It was no surprise that due to all the stress, and soon finding out that Scott was among those taken, that Phoenix went into early, and later to be realized, false labor pains, Logan rushing her down to the infirmary. However, her determination to find her husband found Jean forcing herself out of bed and into Cerebro, using it to pick up on the thoughts of someone in the employ of the LeMasias, and subsequently alerting the rescue team to their whereabouts. Choosing to stay behind, due to the obvious reason of not wishing to put her unborn baby in danger, Jean was more than relieved when Scott and the others returned safely back to the mansion.
It was on September 6th, 2005, at 1:14 in the morning after nearly thirty hours of labor, that Christopher Charles Summers was born. Simply put, it was the bond that cemented Jean and Scott together permanently, as a physical reminder of their commitment to one another. While other events may have been occurring elsewhere, Jean only had eyes for her new baby. While Jean had definitely been protective earlier, of both students and colleagues alike, this protectiveness increased tenfold with the arrival of her baby.
Of recent, Jean was looking forward to a lovely night walking around the Xavier grounds with her family, when man's best friend suddenly started attacking. Jean spent her time in the Danger room, taking care of Christopher Summers, and mentally probing the area in case there was anyone who needed helping. Jean Grey was a nervous wreck, worrying about how Scott was doing. Luckily, everything went according to plan, and everything returned to normal, or as normal as can be. There are still thoughts, and traumatized feelings floating about the mansion, and Jean has recently made it a resolve to help everyone get over that traumatic evening.
SAMPLE ROLE PLAYJean Grey-Summers stood in front of the mirror and growled. At least that’s how she would have described the sound that grumbled from her throat. She flung up her arms in frustration and sat down on the chair by the dresser despondent. Another sound then broke the silence of the room, a gurgling mess of sounds sounding something like “ahooaheh” and Jeans irritation was immediately shifted to the far corner of her mind as her baby son Christopher Charles Grey-Summers took her full attention.
She stood and crossed the room to the crib in which he lay, his pudgy little baby arms batting ineffectually at the air around him. His bright eyes were alert and staring up at the colourful mobile that hung above the crib. Jean smiled and her hair problems forgotten she leaned over and lifted her son from his crib.
The baby reached out to her smiling face and did something that he had yet to do in his short life of two months. Catching a fistful of Jean's middle length hair in one of his little fists, he smiled at her, the woman who was one part of his whole world.
If it was possible Jean’s smile widened, and she looked around for her husband. She had to tell him about this moment. Their baby’s first smile, but unfortunately he was no-where to be seen. She wished then she had had her camera to take a picture for the baby book, and so Scott could see... but the moment had passed and so had Christopher’s smile, Jean sighed. Her excitement temporarily postponed. She replaced Chris back in his crib, hovering over him for a moment to make sure he was happy and well... and because he was just too cute for words.
Affectionately Jean tickled the baby’s tummy and the swelling of love in her heart threatened to spill up into her throat, and she knew that given the choice she would stay here happily all day, ensconced in her baby’s simple world. But it was not to be, she had to meet with a student this morning, so grudgingly she drew herself away from her young son and returned herself to the problem of what to do with her hair. It was at once too short to put up and too long to leave down. She sighed, and got back down to business.
