“My X-Men, the President of the United States himself has approached me to form a sort of alliance with the government, a partnership if you will, where we will be called upon when those without the abilities we can offer them cannot achieve the desired result. At first, there was a list of terms given to me, to us, orders, if you will, of which I was quick to point out to the Department of Defense that the X-Men answer to no one now, nor will they ever answer to anyone in the future. My refusal to follow those terms was met with something I have not seen towards mutant kind in a very long time… understanding, compassion, an outright asking me what our terms would be, the first of which they were not the least bit surprised with, ‘Only if the majority of my X-Men agree this could be a step towards all of us living side by side in peace will I even consider your proposal’. This is why I am coming to you now. I am asking you all to consider what this could mean for our future, for the future of all mutant kind…”

Times are changing, the canine attack has brought mutants into an entirely new light. The above proposal is for all mutants living in the US… will YOU keep an open mind and possibly eventually agree to become a member of Agency X?

X-GENE MUTATION

Shadowcat possesses the ability to pass through solid matter by passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. In this way she and the object through which she is passing can temporarily merge without interacting, and each is unharmed when Shadowcat has finished passing through the object. This process is called "phasing." When Shadowcat is phasing, she is, for all intents ad purposes, intangible. Hence, when attacked, she can shift into a "phasing" state (even if she is not at the time passing through an object) so as to allow oncoming projectiles or energy blasts to pass through her harmlessly. While phasing Shadowcat is still vulnerable to psionic attack, however.

Shadowcat passes through objects at the same rate of speed at which she is moving before she "enters" it. Since she is unable to breathe while "inside" an object, she can only continuously phase through solid objects (as when she travels underground) as long as she can hold her breath.

Shadowcat can phase through any material object, even living people. When she phases through an object with an electrical system, the process disrupts the system's workings. She has trained herself to go automatically, by reflex, into a phasing state at any indication of danger, such as a loud noise like a gunshot, in order to protect herself.

Using her phasing ability, Shadowcat can walk on air. In fact, she can use her ability to walk on the air from the ground to the upper stories of a building as if she were climbing a staircase.

From the first use of her phasing power, Shadowcat has been able to phase her clothing along with herself. Through practice she has learned to phase other objects along with herself without harm to them, and can now phase a living person as big as her teammate Colossus along with herself. She can also enable someone as big as Colossus to "walk on air" along with her. However, she must maintain physical contact with the person or object she phases along herself for the effect to work with this other person or object.

Control: Good control

Weaknesses: She can only phase through an object as long as she can hold her breath. She doesn't always think straight, either, and takes things to heart. Because of her being so impulsive, she sometimes runs a risk of jumping headfirst into a situation just to help out.. but she could be in over her head.

PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE

Personality: A know-it-all. Kitty's been at the Institute for nearly ten years, and watched kids come and go. She knows the system pretty well. She is constantly taking others under her wing and "educates" them, telling them basically how things run around there. But she's sweet about it. Kitty's a very nice girl--just be careful not to make her mad. It takes a lot, but when she's mad... just run. Very fast.

Demeanour: Dark hero

Nature: Hero

Current Affiliation: X-Men, Faculty

Previous Affiliation: N/A

HISTORY

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde was a thirteen-and-a-half year old girl living in Deerfield, Illinois who led a normal life. Later on, she began suffering from migraines. Unknown to her or her parents, the headaches were a result of her mutant power emerging.

In the mean time, Professor Charles Xavier had found Kitty on the Cerebro machine, and had set out with others to contact her. Unknowingly, Emma Frost had went to do the same. Neither had intentions of revealing to the Pryde parents that their daughter was a mutant.

Kitty herself was unaware that she was mutant or that she had a power until the afternoon that Frost arrived to speak to her parents. While they were downstairs, Kitty went to her room, suffering her worst headache ever. Lying on her bed, she closed her eyes, wishing it would stop. Kitty opened her eyes and found herself lying on the floor of her living room. Without knowing it, Kitty had used her power, and had passed through her bed and the floor into the room below.

Later on, Xavier and three other colleagues arrived. They took Kitty to a malt shop to speak with her. As they were there, mercenaries burst in the door with Frost. They took down the X-Men, and Kitty phased out the door accidentally, and then fell unconscious. Frost took the X-Men aboard her hovercraft and started preparing to leave.

But Kitty, being the snoop that she is, went aboard and discovered that the X-Men were being held hostage. Not wanting to leave them, she hid aboard the craft and used her phasing ability to find the captive X-Men in the Frost Industries complex. They gave Kitty the X-Men's phone number and asked her to call for help. But one of the Hellfire Club mercenaries spotted Pryde, and the White Queen ordered her capture. Using her powers, Pryde got away long enough to dial the number.

Kitty was nearly captured in Chicago by mercenaries when they were stopped by the other X-Men, who had just gotten there in response to Kitty's message. They found and comforted the frightened Kitty, who told her story to her and her X-Men colleagues. Pryde then helped the X-Men rescue their captive colleagues.

After the whole ordeal, Kitty's parents allowed her to join the Institute, and Kitty quickly became the youngest mutant to ever join the X-Men, and is a highly valued member. She grew very close to many of the older mutants over the years, including Wolverine and Siryn, then later on a few others, including Gambit. (At some points.) Wolverine took Kitty under his wing and trained her in martial arts. At the end of her training, she earned the codename Shadowcat, which she still uses today.

SAMPLE ROLE PLAY

(JP done up between Mana & Kathryn… Gambit & Shadowcat… taken from Sunday, March 6th, 2005... please note that Kathryn was approved to play Kitty long before bios were even a neccesity at Mana4X2...)

For a moment, Remy just stood there, utterly stunned, his mind repeating selected words and phrases she had just said, ~“Look Remy, ya know I like you. A lot. Maybe even love you,”~ being the main one currently going around in his head, over and over and over, and over, until he did the first thing that came to his mind… he being Remy Etienne LeBeau, Ex Cajun Thief and Current Lady's Man, and all… he leaned over, cupped both sides of her face, and planted a rather deep kiss on her lips, “Dat be seemin’ like I wanna be tryin’ mah luck wit’ Al’son?” he asked her.

Kitty's eyes widened in surprise as he grabbed her and kissed her. She stiffened, and then slowly calmed down, closing her eyes and leaning into the kiss. He broke away after a few moments, and she just looked at him, a deep blush spreading across her cheeks.

~Wow, that was better than last time.~

She smiled. "I guess not..."

Seconds, maybe minutes, who knew, later, red-on-black eyes were widening, and a look of complete shock was coming over his face… a mixture of “I no’ jus’ be doin’ dat,” and “Wha’ abou’ Mana?” written all over his face, and, if Kitty knew him as well as she believed she did, these questions wouldn’t have been too hard to read. “I,” Remy hesitated, “Non,” and he held up his hand, turning so abruptly, the trench coat he’d slipped back on after making the breakfast buffet, flew out behind him, as he started to walk away.

Kitty reacted with shock. She just wanted to cry as he turned to walk away. It was obvious that she was right-- there was someone else. And that someone was Mana. She trembled a little, hugging herself as she watched him go down the hallway. She really wanted to die right now. How could he do this to her?

She sighed, more tears rolling down her cheeks. She felt herself growing hot with anger, and she began to run behind him, catching up. The old Kitty would have just balled up and withered away, walked away from the situation, but heck, she was a grown woman right now. And she wasn't about to let him get away.

She phased through him and turned, grabbing his forearms and gripping him tightly.

"Oh no," she said angrily, yet quiet as possible. She took a deep breath to keep from sobbing. "You are not running away from me. You need to tell me what's going on with you. NOW."

Red-on-black eyes looked at her, seemed to look through her, even though he wasn’t, he was simply thinking… and thinking way too much… he hadn’t even felt her phase right through him! He didn’t know what to do, how to react, how to explain it to her. The fact he now knew she felt the same way he was starting to feel about her just made the whole situation worse. Slowly, those eyes glanced first down at the hands holding him in place, and then up again to the eyes of the woman in front of him, “Wha’ be ‘appnin’, Cher, is dat I be havin’ de same probl’m as Wolv’rine, I be in love wit’ two o’ de bes’ femmes in de worl’ an’ I really no’ be knowin’ which one t’ be choosin’.”
Kitty sighed deeply, lowering her head, not wanting to look at him. She supposed she could understand. She'd been in that situation before! But nevertheless she felt horrible. Just...

~I can't be around him now.~

She let her hands fall to her sides, feeling almost light-headed from her lack of sleep and the stress from this particular situation, "I..."

~Think Pryde! Stay awake! You pass out now and that's it.~

She looked at him, exhaustion, fatigue, anger and sadness all beginning to creep into her now hardened expression, "I see," she looked up at him, her eyes meeting his. Tears threatened to overflow once again, and she blinked, turning away from him. "Just come find me when you wanna talk more.. when you've made up your mind..." She wanted to walk away. But she couldn't. Not until she'd expressed that last thought lingering on the tip of her tongue. "When you've chosen Mana and pushed me away, just like when I pushed Jem away."

Then she walked away from him, wanting to go to her room and smother herself in her pillows. Maybe no one would hear her crying. At least there she could pass out and rest in solitude.

If it had been anyone other than Kitty, he may have just laughed or snickered at her, letting her go, acting the way she was, but he felt deeply for the phasing femme, and, even though he was torn, he still had enough sense to rush after her, and say, “Yo’ be walkin’ away dis time, dere be non turnin’ back,” leaving that simple sentence open for interpretation.

Kitty came to a halt almost instantly, not noticing how far she'd walked, nor that they were now standing in a different hallway, turning back to face him. She shrugged, looking at him wistfully. "What am I supposed to do, Remy?" She answered him. She honestly had no idea if there was anything she could do. But she wasn't feeling too swell at the moment. She crossed her arms and looked at him, waiting for some sort of answer or explanation.

He realised she was right, what was she supposed to do when he couldn’t decide between two women; when he couldn’t see that Mana would never accept him into her life as anything more than a friend because of the way he had treated and played with her in the past? Yes, there was a bond between the two that was something he and Kitty would never share; Mana had seen into the very depths of his memories and soul, and he wasn’t about to share that with anyone again, if he could help it.

“I be startin’ t’ fall f’r yo’ o’er de pas’ couple weeks, Mon Cher,” Gambit started, “I be findin’ ou’ dat mah hear’ be wantin’ more den jus’ dat dere flirtin’, dat spending’ nigh’s at de Hideaway, pickin’ up femmes, enjoyin’ dere comp’ny f’r only one nigh’,” he paused, looking at her earnestly, “Bu’ de hear’ be torn, an’ I no’ be knowin’ wha’ t’ do,” exasperation was clear in his tone, “An’ now I be findin’ ou’ yo’ be feelin’ de same way, wha’ yo’ be expectin’ moi t’ do, Petit, it be easi’r when I no’ be knowin‘.”

Kitty poked out her lower lip and pouted slightly. "Well I'm sorry I even mentioned it!" She wanted to cry and just run to the safety of her room, but she knew better than to leave now. She tried to calm down. "Look, I know where you're coming from. I've been there. But don't jerk me around. Please. I can't handle it, Rem."

“Yo’ tink I be doin’ anytin’ t’ be hurtin’ yo’ on purpose, I be tellin’ yo’ righ’ now I no’ be able t’ d’cide, I be needin’ de time t’ be talkin’ t’ both yo’ an’ Mana, t’ be sortin’ ou’ where her hear’ be lyin…” he suddenly paused, asking, “Why be it dat mos’ o’ us old’r ones be havin’ de same problem?” before going on, “an’ wh’re yoahs be lyin’, which I now be knowin’. I can’ be tellin’ yo’ eith’r way righ’ now, Cher, an’ don’ yo’ be darin’ t’ be tryin’ t’ make me, eith’r,” his words held a slight warning, but he wasn’t angry at her, no, he was just darn well plain confused right now.

Kitty sighed. "Well then don't tell me." She sat in the floor, looking up at him. "I'm not going to make you." She paused for a moment, getting a little agitated. "And you should know me better than that anyway! I might get in people's faces sometimes, you know, cop an attitude, but I'm not gonna freakin’ force you to do anything like that!" She folded her legs beneath her and leaned her head against the wall, staring up at him, sadness and fatigue still present on her face. She wasn't terribly angry with him; really, she wasn't angry at all. She was just more... hurt than anything else. And ashamed of herself. She was so selfish for acting like this toward him.

Red-on-black eyes followed her every move, watching her sit down heavily on the floor, and, automatically, he walked closer to her, moving to actually slide down the wall to sit beside her, careful not to pull on the rather expensive, leather trench coat he was wearing. He didn’t say anything, just looked at her. What could he say? There was nothing that would help to quell the current emotions going on in both of them… not yet… not now.

Kitty's eyes followed Remy as well, watched him edge closer to her. She saw him slide down the wall and sit next to her, and she lowered her head a little. She was very tempted to lay her head on his shoulder, but she decided against it at the last moment. She instead turned her head to look at him, to see if he would say anything. A lock of hair fell in her eye and she pushed it back behind her ear. "Hmm."

“Yo’ be one o’ de clos’st frien’s I be havin’, Petit. De fact be, aside from Mana, yo’ be one o’ mah bes’ frien’s, an’ I be wantin’ more in mah hear’, bu’ I gotta be sortin’ ou’ tings b’fore I be commitin’ maself t’ jus’ one femme,” he finally told her.

Kitty sighed, laying her head on his shoulder. "I know, I know. The big C-word." She closed her eyes, then slowly opened them back. She wasn't sure if it was wise to ask... but she was a close friend. So friendship was automatically more important... right? "Is there anything I can help you with?"

Remy looked at her, shaking his head, even has his entire body shuddered at the mere movement and feel of her head on his shoulder, “Non, dis be Gambit’s probl’ms t’ be dealin’ wit’, Petit,” he assured her, “Bu’ tanks,” he was quick to add.

Kitty sighed. "So I see." She lingered there silently for a few more moments, and sighed a little, wanting to ask him a really dumb question. Completely dumb. And overrated. But she couldn't help herself. "Are you okay?" she blurted out.

“Non,” was all he said, completely honest with her right now.

"Aww.." Kitty felt bad for him. Kinda. She hated to keep bothering him, but heck, she wasn't exactly feeling like Miss Bliss at the moment. She wanted to give him a hug, but at the moment, she wasn't sure if that was the wisest thing to do. She cursed herself silently for having so many unanswered questions. But she felt that they had to be brought up. "So um.. remember the other day at the museum? ...Who was that blonde woman?"

She had to ask… she just had to ask a question that would bring back a memory he so did not want to have to remember right now. Looking away, a flash of anger showing in his eyes, he said nothing.

Kitty picked up her head to look at him, seeing that bit of anger in his eyes. "S-sorry," she stammered a bit, still feeling exhausted. "Forget I mentioned it." She scooted over to lay down across the floor, bending her arm to support her head as she lay there and stared at the wall.

Slowly, Remy opened his mouth to speak, “Cher, yo’ be remembrin de time I be tellin’ yo’ abou’ mah ex fiancée?” he asked, still not looking at her.

Kitty breathed in slowly. She should have known better than to bring this up. "That was her wasn't it?"

Now Gambit turned his head to look her directly in the eyes, the answer in the flash of anger once again passing through them.

Kitty's eyes widened a little as he looked at her. This was just getting aggravating. "Will you please stop looking at me like that!"

“Yo’ be askin’ de question, Petit,” was all Remy replied.

Kitty closed her eyes where she sat, trying to keep her blood from starting to boil. ~Stay calm Pryde.~ "So forget I even asked. I just wish you wouldn't look at me like that."

“Yo’ be tryin’ t’ f’rget de one yo’ be lovin’ f’r de firs’ time,” the words left his mouth, and they held more meaning then Kitty would probably ever know. “I no’ be angry wit’ yo’, Petit, an’ I no’ be knowin’ why yo’ sudd’ly be tinkin’ I always be lately.”

Kitty looked at him in a bit of shock at his words, and said nothing. She knew he was right, and there was nothing she could do about it. It was true- you never did forget your first love. She had loved Jem. But she'd moved on without much of a choice. He was in a coma, after all. But why shouldn't she think that Remy would get aggravated with her? ~Well maybe not aggravated,~ she sighed. "It's kinda hard not to after you give me looks like that. I mean dang, all I did was ask a question and you just give me the death glare. It seems like it's been happening a lot this morning. I'm sorry, I know it's a touchy subject, you don't have to answer me if you don't want to."

“It be a death glare,” he said, unable to help but laugh at that, also trying to ease the tension, “I be sorry, Petit, I no’ be meanin’ t’ give yo’ non death stare,” and with that, he gave her one of the most innocent, most sweetest looking stares, as if he could ever pass for being innocent!

Kitty burst out laughing at his sudden facial expression. "It's okay, I promise. Just don't let it happen again." She teased. "Otherwise I might just have to use my ninja skills on you," she gave him a tired but sweet smile right back.
