Do you think our Leo forums serve its purpose? It seems to be getting very expensive for school-going Leos.
The forum's primary objective is for Leos to voice their opinions and views, so the forum is like a platform. As such, the Leos should delegate their representatives to a forum (though it can also be open to all members). The veiws and discussions can be held formally and within a day. To me, Leos want to have fun and getting to know each other. As such, the forum has become a gathering and does not serve its primary objective. If Leos wish to get together, a Leo camp is more suitable. This need not be in an expensive hotel and can be tailored for Leos to get to know each other. Meanwhile, the Leo Forum numbers can be reduced and Leo representatives attend a formal forum which can be held together with the Lions Convention. What do you all think? |

Yes, you are right. For the Leos, the Forum expenses and fees are really high. Not ongly the forum fees, but also the transportation expenses from a state to a state. E.g. if there is an MD Leo Forum, how can the Leos from Sabah Sarawak come to the Penisular Malaysia?
For me, Leo Forum should be modified into like a Leo Camp, which really providing all the leadership training or something like youth camp, rather than the Fellowship Night which is wasting time. For an example, we went to Shah Alam, just to stay at the hotel and dinner, alrd cost about 400 something. Some Leos might feel the cost of joining a Leo Club is HIGH! In my heart, i wish to be the Forum Organizing Committee Chairman one day. And i will organize it at some place like Genting, where the Leos can also enjoy their vacation in the same time of the forum. If at place like Penang, we can take them for a vacation around the penang island and etc. Suggestion only la.... |

Ya, you and all Leos should voice out what you want. Is it a camp? A camp today does not necessarily mean camping in the jungle. It can be in a place where accommodation is cheap (as in a dorm). A Leo Camp would be great fun, with games and activities to build up Leadership etc.
However, a Leo Forum is also a must because this is the "platform" for Leos to voice your opinions and views officially. As such, if only Leo leaders or representatives attend a forum, it can be held in conjunction with the Lions convention, over an afternoon. The Leos need not stay for the whole convention (though it would be a great idea) so costs can be reduced. Also, since the attendee is representing his/her club, some form of subsidy can be arranged. |

In every Leo Forum, there should be an Open Forum or Q&A Session. Leo can voice out during that session. Normally, it will be held before the closing ceremony.

I'm a Leo and have previously organised the MD Leo Forum. I do agree that the objective of the Forum seems lost and the understanding to the Leos is that Forum = gathering and awards. In terms of serious discussion, there are hardly any. The format of the Forum hardly changed through the years and it hardly provide the platform for Leos to speak up.
To reply Nicseow, in the last forum in Penang there were no feedback session towards the end and the Chair just adjourn the meeting. |

I didn't attend the last Leo Forum in Penang, therefore I can't comment on that.
For the many MD308 Leo Forum that I attended, there is Q&A Sessions. Perhaps the MD Leo Chairperson should look into this seriously. This Q&A session is very useful and it will help the next organising committee to improve further. |

What is a Forum if there is no discussion? It is NOT a Forum!! Protest to the MD Council who has the final responsibility to approve and chair the forum.
But as I mentioned earlier, what do Leos want? Award presentation, partying, fellowship (or friendship)...? Don't just blame the FOC... maybe they also don't know the meaning of FORUM! A forum is a serious (and minuted) discussion. If it is for fun, organize a CAMP! |
