Howl of the Wolf

Sing to the moon
Low and strong
Rise with the wind
This is your song
Dance with the stars
Though you are alone
Call to the wind
This is your song

Last 10 Updates
8-23-06
I hope you don't think that just because I haven't been updating that means that I haven't been working on the site. New things going on right now: The War started, the packs section has been updated and hopefully neatened up. Also, I am in the long process of making a website for LE so that all the rules, character bios and whatnot will all be on there.
8-14-06
Well, as you can see I changed the layout and look. I'm still not finished but I really like this look. There isn't much empty space (expect a lot of changes as far as look, I get bored easily and I think that it keeps things interesting). I deleted a couple accounts who had no posts in them. Also, please try to get more active. I don't know what I should do to make people more active because I am sure doing my best.
8-10-06
The activity check has come to an end. I am pleased to say that the majority of the members of Lupus Exulte have passed. A warning message has been sent out to those whose accounts are in danger of deletion. Keep posting and try to make an attempt to increase your activity. I want to try to open the next pack but not until I feel that we have a good, active community to support having 3 packs open.
8-7-06
I'm back! I did a few updates but, as of now, haven't been able to get to posting. If there are any updates that I missed please PM me, but I think I got them all. Please read in the OOC board, there are two posts that I want everyone to atleast take a look at.
8-3-06
I will be away from Today (the 3rd) until Sunday night (the 6th). The activity check is still in effect. I fixed all the dates in the updates section after I realized that I was using the wrong number for the date.
8-2-06
I am holding an activity check. The details are in your PMs. I also made a new board in the unexplored lands. I also included rules for the c-box. This is to prevent people from just chatting on the C-box. I know that I haven't followed those rules that well but I will. If you need, or want, to talk to me I am on AIM and YIM my screenname is Pinnagerjaggin on both. If you have any questions PM me. I do check those.
7-30-06
I added a new forum in the Out of Character section. Its a place to help improve Role playing skills. In time its going to have posts discussing help on many different aspects of RPing. There is also a vocab list of words that you can use in and out of RPing. You can also use the board to post an example post to get evaluated by myself or other members of the site. Please take advantage of it, having stuff like that is a great tool to improve your RPing.
7-27-06
Nothing much in the way of updates. I'd like to thank all the new members for joining. I'm in dire need of a good personalizing site to get a banner done. If anyone knows of any active personalizing sites I'd really appreciate a link. Also, if you have any friends who are particularly active in the RPG community refer this site to them. There's only so much that I can do to make the site active.
7-25-06
The voting is done for the forum names. The verdict: All wolves are going to be on one account. If you want to change your account name to an OOC name please PM me with your original name and the new name that you want.
7-23-06
Just added this text area. It neatens up the top of the page really well. The poll in the 'ideas' section is almost wrapped up. If you haven't voted already please do. I would hate to make any changes with out everyone's consent.
Weather
The current season in Lupus Exulte is summer.
The rain has also been getting sparse so there
is some danger of drought.

Current Plot
War
The war is starting soon. The alphas are looking for good members to be Warrior and who will represent their side in the war.

I’ve already discussed description, however that is only half the battle when writing a post. Any person can write a descriptive post. A good Role Player will go somewhere with their posts. A lot like a story. Good posts all have similar dqualities, they all have an intro, body, climax and ending. An experienced role player will write more in their posts than just actions. They’ll include their characters thoughts.

Remember this when you post. The character that you role play is yours. It is only as interesting as you make it. If you only post its actions then other role players will not see anything about that character. They won’t be able to relate to it. Your character will just be name, not a character.

I’m going to go through a post that I wrote, explain each part in detail.

Lets start at the beginning:

Intro: Remember the lesson in English about dragging your reader into your writing? The same goes here. Your post should start off interesting. Write about your
Character’s thoughts. Stay away from actions for the intro. You need to give your post meaning before you start having your character do anything. Other readers like to read why your character is doing that. If your character howls, write why. Are they sad? Looking for someone?

QUOTE
It was cold outside.  The wind blew, ripping through the trees.  Leaves weaving through the trees of pine and oak.  Staring out into the forest Falak sighed.  The wind died down as did his spirits.  The cold grew inside him.  Loneliness fought at his heart.  His family now in the past.  He had thought that coming to a new land would open doors to him.  Instead, he found less doors, and even more closed.  Closing his eyes his mind drifted away.  In a matter of seconds he was traveling back home.  His sister embracing him warmly.  Happy faces plastered on every one.  The pang grew in his heart.  Why did he leave?  What was he hoping to find here?

I started my post off with some description of where he was. I used the imagery of the environment that he was in to describe his mood. I did use some actions but there were only 2 sentences describing actions. You still got a lot from the paragraph. There was no confusion to how he was feeling.

Now onto the second portion of a post.

body: The body of the post is where the meat is. Now that your reader understands the mood that your character is in you can jump into the meat of the post. This is where most of the action goes. However, it should not just be actions. Include some mood and thought in there too. For every action you do there should be a reason. Excluding small things. If your character takes a drink its pretty easy to infer that they were thirsty.

QUOTE
Falak’s mind jumped back to reality when a twig snapped under his weight.  The dark woods pulled him back.  Slowly he moved forward.  The smells of a pack drew him further on his journey.  His stomach twisted and turned.  Knowing the danger of approaching an unfamiliar back.  He had to be persistent though.  The prospect of a new family enthralled him and pushed him further.  His gait widened as he weaved in and out of the trees.  Tail waving in the wind behind him.  Each step strong.

Again, not much action. There was still a lot going on. You know what he’s doing and why he’s doing it. You don’t need a lot of action to make your post interesting.

Climax and Ending: This is the point in your post that you’ve been building up to. In most cases it’s a major action that your character is taking. It’s the main point that many RPers are going to choose to react to in your post. For example, in a fight your attack is the climax of your post. The ending wraps up everything. Your ending doesn't need to be a major portion of your post. But it should be there. It wraps up the post and its a good place to fit anything that you
couldn't fit in your post.

QUOTE
Falak's ears perked.  The wind carried the smell of a pack to his nose.  He could see the bodies of wolves peeking above the horizon.  His heart nearly jumped with excitement.  Keeping his emotions in he slowed his pace.  They had most likely noticed him and he wanted to give his best impression.  His lope had turned into a slow steady walk.  Slowly he neared the pack.  He came a few feet away from the border and refused to move.  Fighting hard to hide his excitement and fear.  Dropping his body the ground scraped against his belly.  He rolled over to his side, exposing the creamy white fur of his underside.  Submitting to the pack, letting them know that he was there and that he had good intentions.  Patiently he waited for a member to come to him.  Knowing that this pack wouldn't replace his old home, nothing could, but he had to move on.

The climax of that post was him seeing the pack. You could clearly tell what his thoughts were in the post. After the climax it siffened off a bit. The ending wasn't exactly an ending. RP posts never should have a complete ending. When RPing your endings will seem more like cliffhangers because it should give the other RPers some room to jump in and reply and move off of what you say.

I hope that this guide helps. And remember, this is just a template. Roleplaying is all about being creative. Two line posts are not, even a paragraph is a bit skimpy for a post. Just remember to put effort into your posts.

Here is my complete post:
