Jake walked in after Katherine and pulled up a chair next to her. He could see the tension flow out of her as she relaxed.
"You ok?" he asked.

Sitting down she dropped the book onto the table not paying the slightest attention to how much noise she was making. From afar the librarian gave her a warning glance but she continued to open the book while roughly flipping through the pages. The sound of Jake’s voice half startled her, and she had almost completely forgotten her reason for coming at all. “Yeah...I...I’m fine.” She said avoiding making any eye contact while trying to find the right page. Now just trying to focus her attention on something else she began looking at random pages pretending to take a deep interest in them.

Jake noticed that she was opening to the pages in the middle of spell descriptions.
"...I think you're lying..."
He reached over and closed the book.
"What's wrong? You can trust me. I am in your house after all. It helps if you share problems. Trust me. I know."
He pulled the book away from her, letting her hand come out of the book.

After flipping through more pages she felt it moving from under her hands and realized that Jake was pulling it aside. Half stunned she let herself sit there and collect her thoughts before looking up at him. Then she looked back at the desk and let her finger trace the patterns in the wood. She kept a steady gaze in front of her speaking slow and steady. “It was the same group from the train.” She rambled on not even sure if he could understand what she was talking about. “They knew I was a….a.” She said trying to think of the right words to say but couldn’t think of anything else. “He called me a horrid and dirty mudblood.”

"So? It's a word. Unless you give it meaning it holds none. As Shakespeare said, 'A rose is still a rose if by any other name.' A word's a word unless you give it meaning." he said.
He watched her trace the patterns in the wood and decided to not push the subject any further.
"Ok...so...which one to start first?"
Jake pushed the book back to Katherine.

She smiled and looked back up at him. “You really like Shakespeare I’m guessing.” She said taking the book and flipping to the table of contents. There were many spells he could learn it all depended on what he wanted to learn. “Not sure, what do you want to learn?” Turning the page she looked to see what the rest of the spells were, stopping she looked back at him. “Thanks...for everything.” Then with a slight nod turned to look at the table of contents once more but not really reading it.

"Naw. Shakespeare was too wordy for me. I'm quite a bit more terse about what I say. But there are times when my vocabulary and length of sentences become quite verbose. Though, it's none of my fault. It just happens."
With a smile Jake replied, "You're welcome."
He sat there thinking for a few minutes. "How about a small magic flame?"

“A small magic flame it is then.” She said and looked at the table of contents. Her index finger searched the page before landing on a chapter for elemental use. Checking the page number she flipped through the pages until she found it in one of the first few pages. “Here it is, this spell is actually really simple so I think you will have no problem with it.” Looking over the page she made sure that there was nothing extra that she would need before moving the book closer to Jake so her could read it as well.

Jake turned the book so he could read it easier. After looking at the page for a minute or so, he started waving his wand around in the vague pattern of the spell. Soon he was mumbling the incantation.
"Alright. I think I've got it. Though...I don't think this is the best place to cast this spell..." he said, looking around him at the books, which, were probably very flamable.

“No I don’t think the librarian would like us after that.” She said quietly laughing. Then she looked at the next page it was the mirror spell. Reading over it she saw that she would need a wooden bowl filled with a small amount, getting up she pushed her chair in. “I will be back.” Then she exited out of the library and went into a storage cupboard located not too far away. She closed he door behind her so no one would see her inside then finding a light, she turned it on and looked around the dimly lit space. After finding a perfect wooden bowl she left and went to fill it with water. Returning back to the library she resumed her seat next to Jake and began to practice.

Jake sat there reciting the incantation, then the motions in his head, committing the spell to his memory.
"Ok. I think I've got it down now." he said.
He looked over and wondered what Katherine was doing.

“That’s great, I knew you could!” She said excitedly looking over at his spell. Then looking back over at the bowl that now sat in front of her she peered over the rim. There was no motion in the water at all which was perfect for the spell. Waving her wand lightly she whispered a few words and watched as the water showed an image. The spell was unique to each person and could only be viewed by the person who cast the spell which made it one of her favorites. Watching the image she saw a blur of color but it was too hard to tell what it was.

Jake peered from beside her.
"Did it work?" he asked her.
All he saw was a bowl with still water in it.

“No, almost though.” She said pushing the bowl to the side of her. “I guess my thoughts are not in order today.” Then leaving the bowl alone decided to look through the book to find something else that was simple. She preferred working on spells that had to do with water, she was not sure why though but it always caught her attention.

"...I can go somewhere else if I'm distracting you or something."
He sat there, wondering what she was thinking. He saw her flip through a few more pages before settling on one.
"Which is that?"
