Thanks, EJSF! Ganner had a corn/bruise on his heel last week. New shoes, and as Scrubs wisely predicted, some pads. Penny also got her okay to ride so she took him for a spin today. He was sooooo happy to have her back riding.

It's so weird that Ganner is now the steady packer that we can put the newly healed trainer on...he just loves her, he was licking and chewing.

Hahaa! I would never have seen that. Yeah, Gan was the man. I bribed him with apples in the morning, promising more if he packed my butt around. That horse is smart, when I got back to the barn he was looking at the fridge where the apples were stowed.

Yay, champion this weekend.
Our last fences class was the one I wasn't happy with. He was pooping to the first fence. I knew it (he has been known to dead stop to poop) and aqueezed. He cantered up to the jump, jumped it nicely. You can't squeeze in the air though so he landed in a dead heap. It was like trying to run uphill after that. I had an immediate rollback. We made the turn but just plopped over the next spot. Then I wound him back up and we finished. No mints for that lazy round! I'm not sure I should brag about this but it's Ganner and you know...
He acted strange for his hotshoeing, pulling back like he was burnt (in theory the hoof won't conduct the heat) and holding his foot up. So a couple days later he limps. We think nail. Not a nail but the blacksmith takes the shoe off to test the sole. Sure enough an absess pops out immediately. A few days later and hours soaking that foot he's all good to go. (We think the absess was in the foot and the shoeing boiled that fluid - hence the drama on shoeing day.) So blacksmith says, "You going to jog him for me." I say "No." "Why not? Are you afraid he'll limp?" "No." "I need to see him jog so I feel better." "Okay." Tricia puts chain over Ganner's nose and jogs him off. Ganner, perfectly sound, trots along nose out and cute. Walks nicely and is declared sound by a smiling blacksmith. Dogs across the street pop out of bushes and blacksmith learns why Tricia did not want to jog her horse! Crazy man - with his tail in the air, doing a pegasus imitation, with a stallion snort to boot. Wow! Ganner and I finished Champion for Adult Eq South Florida and overall high point for all adult age groups. We get a trophy.

Ganner's brag - well other than being awesome this year whenever I ask him to do anything - I noted that he was getting a bit round after two weeks of light work and good hay.
Katie Monahan Prudent, Olympian, walks up to him today and says, "I think this is the fattest horse on the show ground." She pats him, then says, "It looks good on him though."
