FANgirl Blog - Want to be heard?

Okay ladies and gentlemen, the next two months are going to be really tough for me writing wise. A few people have expressed an interest in writing something for the blog, and between now and September 30th I am going to give some incentive.

Anyone who submits a proposal for a blog, writes it and has it posted between now and September 1st will get a Chic 2ba Geek shirt. Blogs are subject to review and editorial tidying. Not all proposals will be automatically accepted.

Ideas for blogs

- Gaming
- Comics
- Fanart
- Reaction to an EU book
- Strong female heroine (for instance Why did you love the Hunger Games)
- Cosplay
- Fandom

You can discuss ideas here and submit proposals to me via PM. Spots are on a first-come, first-served basis. Additionally I will pick the best blog, based on content, comments, and blog hits and will award that person a $25 gift certificate to Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Now this is exciting. Now and September 30 huh?

I know I won't be able to do August at all, but September perhaps. Time to brainstorm.

Jade, the offer is open anytime but I'm giving extra incentive for the next two months because it would be a really big help. These blogs don't have to be long either, like mine can be sometimes.

Just so people get a sense of how far their message can be heard, especially if people want to cross-promote, I've gone from a few hundred unique visitors a month to closing on 4000 unique visitors last month, most of whom return on average 3-5 times. The blog has had a general growth trend every month since I started. If you ever wonder who's reading, I have hits from Lucasfilm, Random House, numerous publishing houses, and have been personally contacted by quite a few Star Wars players because of things said in my blog. So people are reading.

When I lose my mind over packing - which could be in about ten minutes - I'll get back to that idea I mentioned a while ago. I actually started to write something. Hope I can find it again.

This is when you need Force powers, to unpack!

I had an idea that I wanted to flesh out about what makes a strong female character, but I wanted to flesh it out a little--and also make sure I'm not rehashing something you've talked about on the blog already.

Does that sound like something that might work? Thoughts anyone?

Edit: This comes from reading the Ascension thread and various other conversations we've had about characters over the last few months. Also clearly I can't talk about the current series b/c I haven't read any of them--but the plan is to pull from a wide range of series.

Absolutely. I think the more women explain what they want from a strong female character the better. Everyone is going to have a little different take on it, and that's fine.

Thanks TKL. I know you said to PM you a formal proposal so I'm going to try and get that together in the next day or two (moving sort of pushed everything a bit).

Just a friendly reminder about the goodies for blogs incentive for the rest of August and the entire month of September. Jade has turned in her proposal and has a slot lined up. Can't wait to see her idea fleshed out.

I have an idea about a post regarding the discrimination that may appear in SWTOR. Not only will female gamers see it, but Star Wars fans who have never played a MMO before and those who play that game who are more MMO than Star Wars fans. With the elitism that far too many gamers display, it's unfortunately inevitable. It already happens in the TOR community.

Either that, or a look at the effect of TOR in Star Wars. It has the potential to bring more fans into Star Wars, for example.

Love either idea or both!

I'm not a gamer but I loved the TOR stuff at SDCC. I think I'd love to watch someone play. (If you've ever seen me play video games you'd understand why it's best I watch.) I've read articles here and there about gamers in other games who experience discrimination.

So three people lined up to post next month!

Jade51999 is going to discuss female characters. Jade's an experienced blogger so I'm really excited to see her opinions.

FelsGoddess will talk about gaming. I'm so uncoordinated in gaming that I just prefer to watch, but this is an important part of the fandom and a place females have had to tough out sometimes not being welcomed. So happy to see the discussion expanded. I'm hoping FelsGoddess will help out with more TOR reports.

And Lex is not getting a t-shirt but he tossed together an interesting look back at his fandom as an EU-aficianado now hooked on a cartoon in anticipation of TCW.

Stop crying. People would just make fun of you in that shirt I'm giving you a copy of Apocalypse instead.

I'd have more fun getting mocked in that shirt than I'd have reading Apocalypse.
