I don't even want to know how much data I used today. It was quite an experience. Here is the link to the recap: Allston, Stackpole and Zahn Subjects range from Soontir, NJO, Chewie's death, Mara's death and more. This post has been edited by FelsGoddess on May 31 2012, 08:43 PM

Data usage. Yeah, I bet. Great recap! It sounds like an awesome panel. I really hope they get the Three Amigos together at Celebration...

Tosche Station Radio did a great podcast interview with Aaron Allston. It's nearly 90 minutes long. Aaron is a hoot as always, and also insightful.

Excellent interview with Karen Miller on Tor.com about writing scifi and fantasy, Star Wars fandom, and other topics.

If she says they're Jainas I'm all with her. Leia and Padme in that pic too. And a cool article on getting published in franchises with Leland Chee, Erich Schoeneweiss and Ryder Windham weighing in. From Leland's twitter feed. This post has been edited by T'Keira Lea on Jul 8 2012, 06:38 PM

| QUOTE | Q: What kind of research goes into writing something like that? A: There was a series of novels for the “Star Wars” books called “Fate of the Jedi,” where Luke Skywalker and his kids have to deal with this band of evil Sith warriors that have been discovered living on this primitive planet where they’ve been stranded for 5,000 years.
|
Luke and his kids? Did he have more? | QUOTE | Q: Is there a group of editors that checks to make sure everything gels with this fantasy universe? A: Yes. Lucasfilm actually has a guy whose job it is to manage continuity. His nickname is the Keeper of the Holocron. A Holocron is their word for a “Star Wars” database. His job is to make sure that everything fits. Since I’ve been writing “Star Wars” comics and novels for eight years, I’ve got a pretty fair background for this. I have 10 volumes of a series I did called “Knights of the Old Republic,” which is set in the distant past of the “Star Wars” universe. I also wrote three volumes plus a novel for a series called “Knight Errant,” also set in the distant past. I’ve had the opportunity to research this stuff before.
|
Interesting that the answer isn't about actual editors but Leland.

Sometimes I think you can tell which writers have actually read the Star Wars canon and who have just gone with the notes given them. I really think it should be mandatory to at least read ten to twenty of the adult novels. For all my complaints about Denning, he has at least referenced things he didn't write (mostly KJA, which is...remarkably poor taste, but still, he didn't write it). Allston, Zahn, and Stackpole clearly do their research, while Jackson Miller (for all that he has an awesome last name) really doesn't seem to care about anything other than the things he's written or forced to read (see also: Vector).
I'm still bitter that he basically completely ignores the feel and themes of the KotOR games when he wrote his comics. So make of that what you will.

I agree (naturally ), though I wish they'd been a bit more involved in discussing race, especially since Aaron did include non-white characters like Shalla and Wran.
