I am unbelievably excited about this: I am re-watching Order of the Phoenix tonight and am impressed at how seamless they all feel.

If you want a quick montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK2WCPYMERg. Avoiding scenes from the new movie? They tell you when they are about to show them.

Okay the local DJ got to go to the premiere and he was hysterical about how he described the movie. He liked it (no mocking) but he didn't understand the ending. So then they had people call in and try to explain it to him, which was even funnier.

Here's an article on Molly Weasley and what she teaches about feminism and motherhood.

I think the imperfections will probably end up being OK after post-midnight haze. We had one woman having heaving sobs through much of the last half which made some of the more poignant moments a little distracting. Perhaps near perfect (for me) is a better phrase.

I can't wait to talk to you guys about it. Will post my yellowed out thoughts this weekend.

Early estimates say that the final Potter movie made over 90m $ on opening day in US box office ( incl. midnight shows ). Holy Shit!!!!!

I cried a bit too... I never got around to reading the last book so I had no idea what was going to happen. There was a fair amount of talking to the screen, crying and sniffling, and then cheering toward the end from the audience at my screening.

My farewellish blog post. http://wp.me/pATjD-hX

Here are a few of my favorite things.

1. Battle for Hogwarts. Visually stunning, and despite changes with the final moment I still found it exhilarating. The defender stone knights were great.

2. Harry and Voldemort in the forbidden forest, and his talk with Dumbledore. Saying goodbye to his family.

3. The Prince's Tale. Alan Rickman as Snape is probably the best thing that ever happened to the series. He is amazing in the pensive moments.

4. Ron and Hermiones kiss, and Neville oh the awesomeness of Neville.

Just the overall tone of the movie, the way they shifted things so Harry could say goodbye to Hermione and Ron was after watching it a second time ok with me. And the chanhge on how he dealt with the Elder wand worked.

Random change that I want to know about...shifting to a boat house instead of the shrieking shack.

There is so mich more that I loved but I figured this was a start.

The way Voldemort and Bellatrix died was weird. There would have been more closure if there had been actual dead bodies.

The Ron and Hermione kiss was perfect for them. wub.gif

That sequence was done so well. Alan Rickman knocked that out of the park.

Rowling confesses she almost killed Ron

This is a good spotlight on how a writer's state of mind can affect storytelling. What would Harry Potter have been had she done the deed? Would it have been the success it was?

It probably wouldn't have affected the success too much, but it would have been a disappointment. She killed enough people. Actually, I think she killed too many. Killing off both Tonks and Lupin was too much. It was too transparent. Killing off Fred made sense for the story. Ron's death would have taken it too far.

Fabulous interview with Rowling in advance on her new book. (via New Yorker)

25 Million printed books and only 7 people had read the final book prior to the release shock2.gif
