Cantina Makeover - Fall 2010

My Fellow Wraiths,

After operating a few years quite successfully, the administration has decided to give the Cantina a makeover.

So what does that mean for users?

In the next coming months you will begin to see changes in the forum structure and organization. Our ultimate goal is to make the changes as seamless as possible and end up with a better community board. As with any change we expect minor hiccups and bumps along the way.

If you find you've lost functions or can find an old favorite thread, please let either Wraith Commander or XO know. We will strive to fix an issues in a timely manner. If the forums go down don't panic. We haven't hit the ejection seat, at least not knowingly. If you lose access, feel free to contact either TKeira_Lea or Darth_Lex through TFN's PM system or create a sock registration to gain temporary access here. We'll get you back up and running; I promise.

What should you expect to see?

* A new color scheme
* A new banner
* Revised forum structures
* Archival of old/unused threads
* More publicly accessible forums

As this process occurs we welcome any feedback or suggestions for combining or compiling threads to make the Cantina work best for our users. Feel free to use this thread to make suggestions or contact me directly.

Cool. Question...how much does running this board cost? Meaning if I want to donate something to the cause who do I send it to? (Not promising anything like tomorrow but when I get back from India I'd like to send someone something)

Oh, wow. Thanks for asking but remarkably the cost of running a message board is insignificant. It's more a time issue and knowing who to ask for help. Programming stuff, artwork, computer style sheets, things that are needed to do this. Those things can get tough. I am not photoshop savvy or computer smart. But I've had some great people to help out along the way.

If people ever want to donate artwork from photoshop such as icons, new banners, those would be considered priceless.

I'd love to donate banners and icons. Just let me know the dimensions you're looking for (in case they're not the same as currently).

Ditto. I've recently acquired Fireworks/Photoshop skills so I can try to help out....I'm excited about the re-vamp!

Awesome! We're working on ironing out some ideas. I have to see what size this banner is too. LadyPadme did this one but it definitely needs updating, kind of like getting new furniture.

I didn't mean to be flippant with the above comment. This revamp must be a lot of work and I hope that you all know I'd be glad to help if there's anything I can do.

We're working hard. I spend some time looking at skins (color schemes/layouts) this week. Lex was tasked with Forum layout. We want to make some changes before the big tv season for sure.

I don't know if this skin is a test or your final decision, but I like the gray/black scheme. It has really nice contrast.


Edit: Plus, because it's grayscale, banners, pictures, and icons will also jump out against this background. Nice choice.

I gave him a sense of where I wanted it color wise and off he went. If people saw colors all over the place yesterday it was him playing and me going eh no or ah yea every once in a while.

I do need a teeny bit up help getting an icon to have a transparent background. My older Publisher doesn't seem to want to help. Any one with some free time send me a PM and I'll pass along the file.

Ok I was liking changes so far but WOW what's with all this pink out of nowhere?!!!

The top pink text will revert to another muted color. We were playing with how to incorporate a little girliness into the grey. No taking the pink out of the banner though. At least on this go round.

The badges are being resized. I somehow managed to learn how to make these things but forgot to resize down to 100 by 33 before they were uploaded.

Everyone is getting consolidated into a founding wraith mask/group. Unfortunately the Wraith call signs within the masks gets very complicated with this many members so we're simplifying. If anyone would prefer their screenname to be switched to their callsign, we'll be happy to do that.

Can I be something besides "Member"?

When I switched the member group assignments around, your "Hotshot" tag went away.

It's back now.
