Apparently, the software thinks that I am David Foster Wallace. I got seven results saying that I write like him. But then I also got: - 3 Dan Browns
- 1 Mary Shelley
- 1 Stephen King
- 1 Douglas Adams
- 1 William Gibson
- 1 Oscar Wilde
That link is just for fun and entertainment, but it's interesting in some respects. I got David Foster Wallace for each of four different sections from my fanfic, "The Cloak". Nice and consistent. However, when I analyzed the Darth Vader diary paragraph from the Prologue of that same story -- which is very different in tone -- it told me I wrote like William Gibson. Huh. The other three David Foster Wallace pieces along with the Dan Brown trio, plus the Mary Shelley and Stephen King samples were from non-Star Wars SciFi short stories I've written (or started). The Douglas Adams was one of my favorites from a few years ago: Star Wars re-told as a fairy tale. I still crack myself up re-reading that. Another of my favorite TFN viggies, "The First", was labelled like Oscar Wilde. Thanks, TKL. That was fun.

I got quite a few Dan Browns and DFW. There was another, maybe Lex will remember, who was a scifi guy.
I put stories in in order I had written them to see if my style had changed.

Oh boy, Lex. My earlier Star Wars works got William Shakespeare and Cory Doctrow. For To Suffer and Be Strong I got Cory Doctrow. So sci fi... that's good. For the beginning of The Great Escape, I got the ever-popular result of David Foster Wallace. Then I ran one of my recent press releases and I got Arthur C. Clarke. So apparently I write news in the form of science fiction as well.

Just for fun, I played with this again today using my new WIP to see if my style had changed at all over the last bit.
Now it's telling me David Foster Wallace, Douglas Adams, Margaret Mitchell (x2), Arthur Clarke, Dan Brown, and Isaac Asimov (really???). All that out of two chapters, I'm counting it as progress.
Anyone else up for retrying it?
